As the title says.... Everyone who has eso + gets this free anyway.. Cmon that isn't right.

The reach and Summerset we got a free house.

I should feel grateful for a free gift but I feel cheated. It's what I pay £9.99 every month for

Well not everyone has ESO plus. Also free DLC is not the only aspect of the ESO plus subscription.

Yeah each year there's something useless for some, no way to prevent this. A lot of people not using housing at all or said psj villa, also can be not interested in "pile" furnishing or a dummy. This year one is more universal as it would be kind of free 2k crowns as no one can really guarantee that their eso plus would be a hundred percents always up. Okay, some might but life can be unpredictable for the biggest part of the world anyway.

i believe that if you stop your sub, you'll still be able to access deadlands b/c they're giving it for free. so there's that. personally, i'd prefer a house, but whatevs

I agree, it feels a little lack luster a 1500 crowns gift (dlc) compared to a 12000 crowns gift (a house). But hey, free is still free right?

While I sub occasionally, I wonder if DLC zone which usually costs 2000 crowns is equal to the houses like Psijic villa for 14000 crowns. I know, that's a gift, but I can buy it for just 1 million gold, so it's about a week of lazy farming resources.

Definitely overhyped, it is not an incredible mystery gift. And I think there needs to be more transparency about what you're getting in a new chapter: I always thought Q4 was included, because that's when the story that starts in Q2 ends.

But perhaps they're going to remove access to DLC from ESO+, in which case it probably is a worthwhile gift. That was my first reaction to the announcement.

I do not worry. Deadlands completely empty dlc. There is no new trial, no arena, no new systems, nothing new. There is not even a new companion, although this is new for this year. This is just another casual questing area. It seems to me that this is the main reason why they give it away for free, because there is no reason to buy it.

Doubt it as that would seriously annoy all eso+ subs.

I have listened/read to posts about this decision, and my opinion is that ehilst giving away the dlc as a reward is fine by me (even as someone who subs) - it has precedence with giving Murkmire as a daily reward - what was handled incredibly badly was the hype around it being sooooo amazing.

That was unnecessary & ill-thought out. A poor marketing decision that has left a bad taste in many eso+ subbers mouths.

Yeah was also thinking that it would be hard to sell for people interested in something more than just questing so it's probably the main reason as way less effort was put into it.

I'm not bothered either way. I have eso+ so will have access anyway but I didn't want another empty house that I'll never use. (As a former The Sims player I really dislike the item placement system in eso.)

At least if I cancel my sub I'll still have the dlc.

No different than those of us who got Murkmire as a daily reward.

This is not unprecedented. From what I understand Zenimax gave the player base another DLC via the daily login rewads and it seems to have gone over just fine.

When I first read the web posting about the Blackwood Event I would SWEAR it contained the listing of 3 things you could get if you achieve the 100% regarding pathfinder. It also said there would be a mystery gift available and unveiled at the end of the year. I re-read the article the day before the event. It was the same. Other people have mentioned the mystery gift, so I don't think I was hallucinating. That being said, the current event post is quite different. It actually only says you get the Deadlands DLC at 100%.

I have subbed for years. I mention the above because I decided after re-reading the day before the event, to go all out for that mystery gift, feeling some nostalgia for the Summerset event where everyone got the Psijic Villa for free. It was something no one had or bought/paid for at the time. I achieved pathfinder 18 times on the NA server and 10 times on the EU server.

When I went to check the metre a couple days after the event started, Deadlands DLC was listed at 100%. I thought that was odd, but was still under the impression something else big would follow at the end of the year......... and no....... I was wrong.

NO WAY would I have put in that time/effort to get pathfinder 28 times to help get something I already paid for. LIke why, what for???????

I was miffed at the Murkmire giveaway, but at least it wasn't "hidden" in a community "goal" mystery gift, and then revealed.

Really awful move ZOS. Super disappointed, and angry, as someone who subs. If I did "hallucinate" the first posting of the web page, well, I'm a moron. If I didn't, I'm still a moron. Thanks for absolutely nothing. Will not make that mistake again. >:(

Technically, all you're doing is renting DLC via ESO+. You don't own it. The moment your sub expires, you will lose access to the DLC. There are many ESO+ members who do buy the DLCs in the off-chance they can't afford their sub for whatever reason.

I'd rather get DLC vs a home, I rarely use. I don't like the bigger homes, they're too big. I am one of those who does buy story zone DLCs. I don't buy dungeons packs because I think $15 for 2 dungeons twice per year is too much. Not enough value for the money, where a story zone has value.

Seem like Blackwood is not selling as much as they like. So they goes on a sale, and then a buy one get extra free deal here. I even got a survey pretty much asking me why I'm not buying Blackwood, and how they can "improve" companion so that I will buy Blackwood. Guess they are trying to get a better sale number to present to shareholder.

Unless the companion can help me to solo 12-men trail, it is kind of useless to me. The strong point of Elder Scroll is the lore and story telling, but then with ESO, everyone is rushing in trail and dungeon, so in order to get the story for those, it pretty much mean watching youtube video which shows all the dialog, which cost nothing.

You're not paying for the DLC with a sub, you're renting it. Once the sub expires, it goes away.

ESO+ members aren't getting screwed, they just get access to the content, they don't own the content. Technically, it's just a rental. And when you look at it like that, it will change how you view the ESO+.

BioWare does give out stuff when you sub in SW:TOR. What ever got unlocked stays unlocked. ESO doesn't do that, the moment the subs drops, you lose access to all the dlc. There are those who don't sub because they don't want the dlc dungeons popping when they queue.

If they gave us the ability to pay outright for the crafting bag, I'd dumb my sub in a heartbeat. It is the only reason why I keep my sub going. So, I welcome free content, even if my sub is covering it for the time being.

A daily login reward is not some amazing community reward for some event goal that is presented as some shiny huge mystery.

My sub never runs out. I will stop subbing when I quit the game, so the rental vs own is not a consideration. . If/when the game ends, it won't matter if you rent or own the dlc. You missed the whole point of my post.

Honestly, I'm amazed at how salty this is making some people. [snip]

We get "free gifts" that we don't care about or don't value all the time. Free pet as the monthly login "big prize"? Great, I don't use or collect pets. Free consumables? Some people love them, others think they're beyond trash. And vice versa for the different consumable the next day. All these Big Yearlong Event Collectable Mounts? I've gotten one out of the last three years, because I just use my original horse 99% of the time and think they're ugly. OMG, how dare they stage all these big event giveaways with something that I don't value!1!1!!! I should stomp my feet and yell!

Or not, it's just a game. It's not enemy action, it's not an insult, and it's not a "gut punch"/"slap in the face".

The only mistake they made was hyping it up as a Big Mystery Prize™. Personally, I haven't fallen for hype in a decade or two. It certainly removes a lot of the Drama from game announcements, which is better for my stress levels. I've no idea why modern gamers still fall for hype, given all the examples of hype gone wrong that we have.

None of the above you mentioned are wrapped in a community event to achieve a goal type thing. That is the difference. Past community events awarded something that was new and not available to anyone with or without sub. Those who were in game during the Summerset event, have very fond memories of it. People working across servers together, to achieve that goal. This is just a dust and ashes waste of time in comparison. Especially for those who sub.
