But perhaps they're going to remove access to DLC from ESO+, in which case it probably is a worthwhile gift. That was my first reaction to the announcement.

As the title says.... Everyone who has eso + gets this free anyway.. Cmon that isn't right.
The reach and Summerset we got a free house.

It also said there would be a mystery gift available and unveiled at the end of the year. I re-read the article the day before the event. It was the same. Other people have mentioned the mystery gift, so I don't think I was hallucinating. That being said, the current event post is quite different. It actually only says you get the Deadlands DLC at 100%.
I have subbed for years. I mention the above because I decided after re-reading the day before the event, to go all out for that mystery gift, feeling some nostalgia for the Summerset event where everyone got the Psijic Villa for free. It was something no one had or bought/paid for at the time. I achieved pathfinder 18 times on the NA server and 10 times on the EU server.
When I went to check the metre a couple days after the event started, Deadlands DLC was listed at 100%. I thought that was odd, but was still under the impression something else big would follow at the end of the year......... and no....... I was wrong.
NO WAY would I have put in that time/effort to get pathfinder 28 times to help get something I already paid for. LIke why, what for???????
I was miffed at the Murkmire giveaway, but at least it wasn't "hidden" in a community "goal" mystery gift, and then revealed.
Really awful move ZOS. Super disappointed, and angry, as someone who subs. If I did "hallucinate" the first posting of the web page, well, I'm a moron. If I didn't, I'm still a moron. Thanks for absolutely nothing. Will not make that mistake again. >:(
This is not unprecedented. From what I understand Zenimax gave the player base another DLC via the daily login rewads and it seems to have gone over just fine.

You're not paying for the DLC with a sub, you're renting it. Once the sub expires, it goes away.
ESO+ members aren't getting screwed, they just get access to the content, they don't own the content. Technically, it's just a rental. And when you look at it like that, it will change how you view the ESO+.
BioWare does give out stuff when you sub in SW:TOR. What ever got unlocked stays unlocked. ESO doesn't do that, the moment the subs drops, you lose access to all the dlc. There are those who don't sub because they don't want the dlc dungeons popping when they queue.
If they gave us the ability to pay outright for the crafting bag, I'd dumb my sub in a heartbeat. It is the only reason why I keep my sub going. So, I welcome free content, even if my sub is covering it for the time being.

A daily login reward is not some amazing community reward for some event goal that is presented as some shiny huge mystery.
Well not everyone has ESO plus. Also free DLC is not the only aspect of the ESO plus subscription.

And not everyone who has ESO plus, has it all the time.
Honestly, I'm amazed at how salty this is making some people. [snip]
We get "free gifts" that we don't care about or don't value all the time. Free pet as the monthly login "big prize"? Great, I don't use or collect pets. Free consumables? Some people love them, others think they're beyond trash. And vice versa for the different consumable the next day. All these Big Yearlong Event Collectable Mounts? I've gotten one out of the last three years, because I just use my original horse 99% of the time and think they're ugly. OMG, how dare they stage all these big event giveaways with something that I don't value!1!1!!! I should stomp my feet and yell!
Or not, it's just a game. It's not enemy action, it's not an insult, and it's not a "gut punch"/"slap in the face".
The only mistake they made was hyping it up as a Big Mystery Prize™. Personally, I haven't fallen for hype in a decade or two. It certainly removes a lot of the Drama from game announcements, which is better for my stress levels. I've no idea why modern gamers still fall for hype, given all the examples of hype gone wrong that we have.
