While I do agree that fake tanks — and by extent, fake healers — are terrible, unless you do a Random Veteran, it shouldn't be a problem as even a DPS can tank the normal runs

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Allow players to opt out of the traditional group dynamic but still be a part of the queue and that will help. Then all the fake tanks can just queue as DPS who don't care what kind of group they get and be on their way.

The problem with this is I think we will find out how few real tanks are in the game and are willing to queue random.

I've had an idea for a new dungeon finder system.

From level 1 - CP160 you're locked into using the regular dungeon finder.
At CP160+ you can get a role certificate.
As a DD you have to pass a DPS check in the certificate quest. A tank would have to tank and a healer would have to heal.
If you complete that you get another dungeon finder option for role certified characters.

Since everyone would be somewhat competent in their role in the certified group finder it would be a better experience for every role.

It would also be something for new players to strive for. They would have a better environment where they can learn learn how to deal more damage, how to tank or how to heal.

No, a lot of players doubtless find it useful. However, in any MMO it's always the case that established groups with fellow guild members you know and with whom you have adventuring experience will always be more reliable than random PUGs with strangers.

I successfully complete random dungeons quite frequently with pugs with little-to-no issues. And if I do have an issue, vote-kick, or leave the group are both viable options.

There is NO fool-proof, mathematical way you will EVER be able to determine if someone is a 'tank' or a 'fake tank'. There's just no way. It has to be governed by players.

Also: as a person than has tanked many many times in pugs - I've been kicked for every reason under the sun up-to-and-including the fact that I am a real tank and not just a third or fourth DPS. So yeah, I have zero sympathy for either side of the equation. I just group up and if I don't like the looks of things, regardless of my role, I quit the group and go do something else. Players are the source of the problem. Players are also the solution to the problem.

Yeah I guess you're right. It probably wouldn't work. Players would just abuse it anyways and tanks would still not be bothered to use the dungeon finder.
Would be nice if it worked though.

Tbh the one and only solution would be for players to actually go and play an actual tank and healer. There are just a lot of DDs, and not many willing to pick up the other roles, which explains all the fake queues. Somehow DDs always end up being the favourite role, in any game.

Also, apparently tanks got spooked out of the group finder, so maybe the problem are also the real DDs that just put no effort into their build and drag a dungeon on for 2h. Just saying.

Yeah any time I tank a random (been a long while since I have) I only take a tank I can easily switch over to mostly DPS. That way if the DPS is really low I can switch gear/skills and be good to go.

I had a pug who obviously ran as a fake tank to jump the que. He was asking for specific gear, too, which normally I have no problem giving to pugs if I don't need it. But I do expect someone who runs as a tank to do their job as a tank, even if it is an easy dungeon. And that means to at least taunt the boss. But nooooo, he couldn't be bothered and I let him die with his 21k health several times. I also got the exact weapon that he was after and decided to vendor it.

I’m 100% okay with people running fake roles as long as they bring a group heal or taunt - or a group buff if you’re fake DPS (e.g. Igneous Weapons) - but please leave the clown shoes in your bag. I can take care of myself, but the other randoms may not be able to without the bare, basic toolset of the support roles.

Someone who queues for a random as a tank with no taunt is making no attempt to fill the role. I run rnds every day and it is often a very bad experience for new and less experienced players when they keep getting killed by the boss because the "tank" has no taunt.
Simple fix for ZoS - make it so that if u queue as tank, you must have a taunt, and if u queue as healer, u must have a group heal. And add a 30 minute account wide cool down if you ditch a rnd within the first 10 minutes.

I don't care about fake tank in normal dungeons. Only if it's not dlc. Because you need someone who can block and use inner rage without death. But I really don't like fake dps. Most annoying thing in pug runs.

I've played for 3 years, and I've once seen someone spec'd as a tank queue with the role of tank. So the so called "fake dps" are just players doing low dps - they are trying to dps but aren't at the standard some may expect. This is still them trying to do their role as best they can. So the argument that ZoS need to stop fake dps is not a reason for allowing fake tanks, as in a tank who is not even ATTEMPTING to fulfill the bare minimum role of tank by taunting the boss.

For normal dungeon I honestly don't care.

Its not like a level 10 with no skills unlocked is gonna do a good job tanking or healing anything anyway.

For veteran difficulty I do expect people to be experienced enough to know the role they que for.

DD are able to do a suitable amount of dmg, and not drag a dungeon run out to 40+ minutes
Healer: I expect atleast one hot and an orb/shards. You can provide that easily even as a DD with dmg orb and something like echoing vigor or a class heal, you don't even have to slot a resto staff. But atleast try to give a poop about the people you play with.
Tank: I expect taunts and some resemblence of survivability. If the tank dies at the beginning of each fight because he got less HP than the healer that's a no go for me.

If you're on veteran and not fulfilling the most basic of the basic core obligations of that role, I'm not playing with you in a PUG setting. I think it is highly selfish in veteran content and not the attitude experienced players should have with strangers who sometimes que 20 minutes to get into a game - only to have it ruined by someone who wished to skip the line at the expense of everyone else.

In my experience 90% of the time everything goes smoothly, the other 10% is either kick or leave, queue pop up fairly quick for randoms anyway.

I've also never had a dungeon going on for 40 minutes unless it was a vet DLC but in that case, if everyone is making an effort, the "we're in this together!" kicks in so I'll gladly endure it.

It does suck but it's not going to be fixed anytime soon (I wish it was). The best way to look at it is that if you are pugging a group, you just have to take what you get and know when to bail and requeue after your timer is up. On average it takes around 7-15 minutes to replace a kicked tank and it's just not worth it most of the time to wait unless you need that specific dungeon for something.

I agree. Anyone weighing less than 50 tons, not moving on caterpillar threads, with armor thickness below 10 inches and without a main gun and a machinegun should not be allowed to queue as tank. Real tired of these APCs who skip queues and cannot even take a single mine or mortar shell.

Never, ever, ever do I queue up with random strangers to play. I go with a guild group or not at all. We adjust our roles so that the dungeon finder will take us into the random normal, so we are fake tanking and fake healing all the time. It works fine.

If you are doing random normals just for the transmute crystals, try and fine someone in zone who is level 10 to 20 to group with, then queue. That way you will get an easy dungeon that doesn't care how fake the tank is. Just be considerate to the low-level person you grouped with and don't rush through.

The other solution is to mark yourself as a tank. Get some heavy health-based armour that pushes your health up high, but works with your DPS build. Keep all your skills the same except for one slot where you can put in the undaunted taunt. Last night we got Scalecaller Peak as our random, so I put on my PvP armour which pushed my health to 41+k, and put on the undaunted taunt instead of the trap. It worked fine, we finished easily, and we had to work out some of the mechanics as we had forgotten them.

If you are on PC-EU send me a friend invite (@cyberjanet) and I can try and help you get some random normals done.

Your answer is right there - we need to solve this.

No amount of clever systems or canny programming is ever going to stop people being [snip], because that's what we all are given the freedom to do so.

Vote kick people doing it or report them for disrupting your game.

Sure, it's a [snip] thing to do, but no more so than ruining somebody else's enjoyment of the game simply because you're too lazy to respec or create a character for the right role.

Can we solve the fake DPS problem too?

In my experience, they're usually one and the same...
