Furnished or Unfurnished?

When you buy a house, do you buy it furnished or unfurnished? Why?

I am looking at the Panther place and I don't need it, but I have no large houses on the PC and it looks nice. I doubt I would ever personally decorate it much, but should I keep it empty anyway? It doesn't look like it would make a good crafting house, since it is so split up.

I usually buy them empty because when I buy a house, specially expensive ones I plan to furnish them in my own style or to a special theme.

I buy unfurnished, I already have way too much "stuff" and "Storage Villa" (my renamed Psijic Villa) is filling up.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

The last couple houses I bought, I would only buy furnished if I really liked a lot of the pieces of furniture and/or outdoor plants/trees.

In the past, I used to buy houses furnished all the time since it seemed like the best deal but in the end, I found I stuck so much of it into storage (AKA unused houses) and never really used a lot of it. I finally dumped a lot of extra furniture I had accumulated once I realized I was never going to use it, especially some of the older stuff.

Granted, I rarely buy houses any longer just because they're so expensive and large. I'm trying to just work on my previous smaller and mid-sized houses, using up the furniture I had in storage. All that extra furniture is actually kind of stressful for me. LOL

Some and some. I like to do some furnishing, but it's not my main game activity and therefore I like to buy some houses that are already furnished but which I can "top up" as well as others that I can slowly furnish over a long period of time.

I normally buy unfurnished, but with Pantherfang I bought it furnished. My reason is that I don't have as much time to play/farm the Leyawiin furniture plans, and I liked how it was decorated. In the past that's rarely been the case.

I do a mix. For most homes I prefer unfurnished because I like to do my own thing and can buy or craft furniture. With some homes like Bastion Sanguinaris, it was worth to buy it furnished at the time because you got a lot of furniture and it was expensive and hard to come by at the time. Only thing is that furniture costs a ton of gold and can take a long time to acquire so if you wanted it furnished NOW then prefurnished is the way to go.

If you get it furnished you can still take all the furniture out and place it how you want or use it in other homes to vary it up. Some of the homes pre furnished options are really nicely done. Hardly altered a few rooms in Ald Velothi Harbour house.

Furnished, but I usually take out the furniture.

For example the ayleid home had a ton of imperial furniture. I took all of that out to use on other homes, while I redecorated it with Alinor furniture for my high elf mage.

Now I am reusing some of that imperial furniture for pantherfang.

Unfurnished. Most of the furnishings in packs and houses are way too much I wouldn't use, and not enough I would.

I already got the ones I want: Daggerfall Overlook for my Daedric Castle, Serenity Falls Estate for my craft stations and Wayshrine adjacent, then all the freebies like Grand Psijic Villa for my personal RPG town.

With Pantherfang I would only decorate the courtyard to be another RPG town and block off the Cathedral entrance.

If I was buying one with crowns I'd probably buy it furnished, because you typically get a lot of furnishings for the extra crowns. But it would need to be furnishings I like and would use, since you can't sell them.

But I'd remove most or all of them and decorate in my own style. I might use some of those furnishings in the process, others I'd move to other houses, but most of the fun of housing for me is decorating so I'm not going to buy a furnished home (which is only ever partially furnished anyway) and then just leave it.

Having spent part of the evening previewing houses in non-housing guilds I'm currently wondering why so many people buy very expensive crown-exclusive houses and then pile free collectibles from events and some achievement furnishings by the entrance and leave the rest empty. I can understand when the house was also free, but some of these have only ever been available for crowns so they must have paid a lot (either gold or real money) for the space only to not use it. I don't understand the point of that.

Unfurnished, I find it wasteful of crowns buying furnished ones when 90% of the furniture can be crafted. I also may have other plans for the house and often don't like the chosen furniture.

    Usually unfurnished.
When I look at what they normally give you for furniture, I find its usually not worth the extra crowns it costs you

It depends. I usually buy them unfurnished, but if the quality of the given furnishing is good, I'm going to buy it furnished then. Take Tel Galen for example: it's coming with a lot of Telvanni furnishing, that is quite expensive to craft. So I decided to buy it furnished, then I removed all the furnishing to use it in other places.

I am always awestruck by people who have purchased this house... personally, whenever I am in it I always get visions of Aliens 2 and the critters coming out of the walls.... :D

I do something similar... depending on whether I buy with crowns and if it has a majority of pieces I like, then I will buy furnished but in that case I empty it out and redecorate according to my ideas and use the pieces there, and in some other houses.

I bought my first house furnished because I didn't know many furnishing patterns yet. But now I only buy unfurnished, even for big properties. Although I seriously considered getting Alinor Crest Townhouse furnished because I love the Alinor style so much.

I wouldn't buy furnished for crowns. Can't justify it.

Yet another request for houses bought with gold to have a furnished option!

I always buy unfurnished. The furnished versions, on top of costing more crowns, don't really give us more than a starting point to work with, and it's always gonna follow the style of the house itself. Not necessarily a bad thing, but if you have other ideas for the space, you can spend your crowns in better ways. A furnishing pack with lots of flashy shinies is worth more than some tables and chairs you can oftentimes craft yourself or get on traders, no? At least that's how I see it.

I've bought two houses so far and both as furnished. I looked at the furnished preview first and decided that there were a lot of pieces that I would use so to me it was worth the slightly higher cost.

I bought the Alinor House and the Lucky Cat Landing furnished because I wanted to use them for RP and the furnishings would have been too expensive to buy as single items or would have taken too much gold or time to craft. Even the price of some of the smaller items (statuettes) seemed to be almost as much as the upgrade so I gave in because RP is my hobby. Everything else I got for gold or unfurnished (Moonsugar-Meadow). Other than that I only have smaller or medium houses or the ones we got for free.
I recommend taking a good look at the furnished option in the preview because some houses only have 'normal' furnishings that you could craft or buy for gold easily.

Unfurnished as it's cheaper and I get a lot of furniture from scrying and other gameplay.
