Resuming and old char that was played years ago so I'm super overwhelmed, at 48 and just not sure exactly what skills to really focus on ...getting acclimated to the game again mainly but some advice would be awesome
Start with Unstable Wall of Elements (morph of Wall of Elements in the Destruction Staff skill line), then Lightning Flood (morph of Lightning Splash under Storm Calling), then Mystic Orb (morph of Necrotic Orb in the Undaunted skill line). I'm used to putting Orb on backbar, but many people prefer to keep it on frontbar -- just do whichever works for you.
Then apply Daedric Prey (morph of Daedric Curse under Daedric Summoning), then repeat Crushing Shock or Force Pulse (morphs of Force Shock in the Destruction Staff skill line) until you need to refresh Unstable Wall. Place Crystal Fragments (morph of Crystal Shard under the Dark Magic skill line) on the same bar as Crushing Shock/Force Pulse and when the ability makes a sound and the icon changes (a "proc"), use it in place of Crushing Shock/Force Pulse.
Apply Channeled Acceleration (morph of Accelerate from the Psijic Order skill line) before starting and reapply it in place of Crushing Shock.
You can use either summoned pet, but Twilight Matriarch (morph of Summon Winged Twilight from the Daedric Summoning skill line) allows you to heal yourself and groupmates if things go south, even if it does less damage.
Generally, I'll run Inner Light (morph of Magelight from the Mages Guild skill line) on frontbar and frontbar Greater Storm Atronach (morph of Summon Storm Atronach from the Daedric Summoning skill line). Backbar ultimate is Elemental Rage (morph of Elemental Storm from the Destruction Staff skill line). Typically, you'll use Greater Storm Atronach when fighting bosses and Elemental Rage when fighting smaller enemies.
This is a very basic, gear-agnostic magicka sorcerer rotation. People are getting higher numbers replacing Lightning Flood with other skills, but the bread and butter of a sorcerer rotation is Crystal Fragments. So this rotation should teach you good basics, if nothing else.
Thanks for the info man, what is sad is I'm still just like having a hard time figuring things out mainly because I don't have everything unlocked yet that you mentioned and the game itself is still overwhelming as hell as to where I should even be.
Dropping myself onto a level 48 char was just not a great idea because there's all these skills etc and like I'm not gradually learning like normal.
The game is so huge, which is exciting and I love that but I'm still so lost.
