Plates in the Direfrost Keep, levers in the ICP, etc. Why companions do not have brains?

Before the Blackwood Chapter, it was just a stupid mechanic. But now we have companions, and now it turned into a bug that breaks logic.

"Go anywhere, do anything, and play your way in The Elder Scrolls Online", but we will make you look for a second player to press buttons and pull levers. :/

Just like combat pets, companions won't trigger the plates, even if you get them to stand on them.

    LOL

Just when you thought they couldn't be any more useless. :D

I am so glad I didn't buy this chapter.

This is not a bug, companions were never advertised to be able to do these kinds of mechanics. You still need actual players for certain things.

There are legitimate things to complain about, but this is not one of them.

I would argue that this is a legitimate gripe. The whole point of companions was touted to be a way for solo-leaning players to "build confidence" or whatever by allowing them to do harder endgame content that they previously couldn't complete. The going thought process is, if players are allowed to play and practice things like dungeons by themselves, they'll be less self-conscious when it comes to their performance and knowledge of mechanics around other players who otherwise may be intimidating.

With this in mind, and ignoring the fact that companions fight like wet tissue propelled by halfhearted farts, I would at least expect "help me open the gate" or "interrupt this insta-kill mechanic" to be parts of their basic functionality.
"I haven't really played much yet, but lemme tell you all about how the game should include X and be a lot more like Y!" - Half the posters on this forum.
"I've been here for years, and lemme tell you all about how they should never change or evolve Z, because then the game would be ruined forever." - The other half of posters on this forum.

This was directed at public dungeons, world bosses, harrowstorm-type events and for players that struggled with quests, not so that players could solo 4 man dungeons.

ZOS was also up front from the very beginning that companions would NOT do mechanics. I remember that in the launch stream.

No. Now such mechanics destroy the logic and atmosphere of the game world. It's just like the system message "you can't get through this dungeon just because you can't."

If I meet a boss who is too difficult for a single player and this boss is killing me, that's fine. This means that the developers showed their imagination and came up with an interesting challenge.

But if I can't get through the door because no one can step on the plate, that's stupid. Especially if my character has a living companion with him. And this means that the developers are doing their job poorly.

Quite frankly I would rather have the characters that accompany us in quests, it is not as if there is any significant difference in the damage output 😆🤣😆🤣🤔🤨😆

Titanborn never died because some random mob happened to sneeze in her direction

Oh, as a healer, if you fancy a challenge, set up a companion with all the tankiest gear you can manage and go take a stroll into a harrow storm with less than six people in it, if that doesn’t improve your healing skills, nothing will LMAO 😂😂

It's not a bug, no, but it absolutely is a legitimate complaint for players who like to solo dungeons.

The only reason that players don't solo Direfrost is because they need a second player to stand on that stupid pressure plate. Back when we could bypass the plate, players (including me) soloed Direfrost. ZOS removed those methods because apparently they really want there to be a dungeon that requires another player to do nothing but stand on an effing pressure plate. It's dumb, and they continued that dumb design decision over into Companions.

Not to be rude about comparing ESO to a ten year old TES game, but Lydia could stand on pressure plates and carry her own burdens.

For this reason and others, Companions feel decidedly underbaked as a feature to me.
