Is the audio quality of Bastian's voice worse than other characters?

It's like there is a slight static hum when he speaks..I'm not an audio expert so I'm not sure how else to explain it

I don't know about static hum, but the only thing we really get from a companion is their voice and after hauling Bastian around a bit I'm not happy with the VO. Sounds like very short vocal cords/thin/just not what I want to hear from a comp. More like Kermit the Frog, nothing against Kermit just never got into frogs as traveling/quest companions. Certainly don't want to hear that voice every eso-day in/out.

Maybe some NPC princess needs to kiss Bastian and suddenly the frog's got a different voice. I suppose it could be worse. Hopefully ESO has different male comps available in future.

Both of you fix your audio. I hear neither static or "kermit", sounds like a hearing issue to me

I like the actor who voiced Sombren. I hope we get him as a companion in the future because I could listen to that guy talk for hours.

Bastian on the other hand makes my skin crawl.

He sounds like Jonny Young Boch, or Torian from Swtor, which is A OK for me. Personally prefer him over Mirri whining literally everytime you start a fight or just adventuring in general lol. Almost as bad as Serana complaining about the weather endlessly.

My audio is perfect, all other npcs sound clear and normal, while Bastian lines sounds like they were spoken over the phone.

Haven't really noticed, sounds fine to me. Voice actor sounds great.

Nothing wrong with the voice acting, but they quality of the recording does sound worse than other characters.

The companions all sound fine to me. Reading this post made me curious, so I searched online. UESP says that:
Bastian Hallix is played by Griffin Puatu.
Mirri Elendis is played by Erin Yvette.
Ember is played by Elysia Rotaru.
Isobel Veloise is played by Laura Bailey.

I hadn't noticed but it may have been recorded in the pandemic, in which case a lot of actors generally were reduced to using home studios (don't know if that applied to eso specifically).

For what it's worth I really like his voice.

If you have issues where his voice seems too high or distorted, repairing your client files might fix it. When I first got Bastian, his voice sounded higher and weedier than it does now after a total reinstallation of the game. The deeper intonations are coming through now for me, and I no longer hear static in his audio, although I am still on the fence about whether I actually like his voice or not.

(That isn't an insult to the VA, I just feel that better timing on his dialouge, with a better AI that doesn't automatically assume an intent to do wrong, such as accidentally killing a spider, would do a world of good for the companion. Though I do get a chuckle about getting asked if I plan on eating the spiders that inadvertently end up in my AOE. In general, the dialouge system for companions needs revamped.)

He is the only NPC that have it, there is something a bit off with the sound quality compared to all the others.


I'm very sensitive to sounds too, the smallest detail I notice.
