Zone Limit on Leads?

Does anyone know if there is a limit on the number of different leads you can have in a single zone? I've got five leads in the Reach and haven't been able to find any more no matter how many chests I open. Are we limited to five, or am i just having really bad luck?

can only speak for test server. my char there has 15 leads for blackwood.
ShutYerTrap (selectively mute NPC dialogues (stuga, companions); displayleads (antiquity leads location); UndauntedPledgeQueuer (small daily undaunted dungeon queuer window)

The Reach is an interesting zone lead-wise. There is obviously the limit of having all leads simultaneously for the zone, which is much more than five for the Reach.

I believe there are 30 total leads that can be acquired in the zone, but there are significant caveats on those that mean it will likely be impossible to get them all simultaneously.

There are the usual 3 treasure suspects: green, blue, and purple. The purple treasure can only be dug up once per account, so once that’s done you can’t get the lead again. The blue treasure lead comes from the green treasure excavation, and then you can scry the green again, as that lead is always available.

There are the 7 parts to the Scarab pet, which are extremely rare drops from a particular area, last I knew. Once you dig up one of those parts, you can’t get that lead again, as the pet is added directly to your collections upon completion of all parts.

Another once-per-account lead is the static one for the Arkthzand Insight Vertex Shroud.

There are the 14 parts of the Ancestral Reach motif, which are time-consuming enough to get one by one. They can only be acquired from hidden chests found with treasure maps, not random chests that spawn throughout the world. I don’t want to think about the time and gold required to have all 14 leads simultaneously, though they are technically repeatable.

Then there are two mythic item leads, which are repeatable only after you’ve acquired all the rest of the parts for that item:

    Silver Strand of Syrabane
    Pale Order’s Golden Band

The rest are furnishings that should be more or less easily repeatable:

Antique Map - a static lead bought from general merchants and innkeepers
    Red Eagle Cave Painting
    Vampiric Stained Glass

So while there are many more than five leads in the Reach, it is highly unlikely you’ll get more than that by chance farming.

I do not know and I have wondered the same myself. Just in case, I have recently started the habit of digging up all the leads for the zone before doing things in the zone such as opening maps and harvesting nodes.

If one of those leads is for a motif, I'd dig that up before I open any more treasure map chests, because you can't have the same lead active at the same time.

Thank-you for everyone's input. I am going after the Ancestral Reach pages. I've gotten everything else in the Reach, including the pet. I'd gotten four motif leads over two days, then got another lead for the Red Eagle Cave Painting and suddenly nothing after that.

Sounds like its probably just a streak of bad luck, or the game is trying to give me leads I already have. I was hoping that by not immediately digging up the motif leads I could limit further leads to ones I need. It seemed to work in Khenarthi's Roost, but it's impossible to tell if it actually works.

Unless... Unless it gives you a chance for optaining any lead first and then gives you a chance for which lead it is second, meaning that if you are missing no lead other than the chest motif, the lead you get from the treasure chest (when you get a lead) will be guaranteed to be for the chest motif. Although that would be very difficult and expensive to pull off, you could in theory get much higher odds for getting the most expensive motif of the bunch.
But that's only if the odds work that way in the first place. If the game has no issue with giving you a lead you already have that is then getting wasted then all of this doesn't work.

I stopped chasing Ancestral Reach leads. I opened about 40-50 chests and only got the one lead in the first week, so I've always felt the RNG is really bad for it. I know some people have said it's a 10% chance, but obviously RNGesus just hates me in that department.

I wish it was easier to get the Ancestral Reach leads... maybe by dropping as bonus look like they were originally implied to have, but I'm not going to spend ridiculous amounts of money on treasure maps to get a blue Witch Knight's Boots anymore.

Pity the Ancestral Akaviri is the same. I guess there's another motif set I don't need to go for...
