Just curious do ZOS employees play ESO on live servers

The say they do, but some of the choices they make make that extremely difficult to believe.

I'm sure some do but they don't say anything about it due to any fallout they undoubtedly would receive.

That's really a shame that players would act like that. It would be so cool to hear their stories.

I agree, it would be cool to get their perspective on things (in a friendly conversation) while hitting a dungeon or a delve. I imagine the conversation something like..... yeah, I helped make the terrain in this area or I designed that house.

Gina plays BDO and I'm near positive she plays ESO on live just not with anything that would alert the masses its THEE Gina Bruno.

As far as dev's I bet they do here and there but would you really want to play on live after having played most all day on a nice private dev server, lol...

Perhaps you're right I wouldn't want them to be targets of toxic comments. I was just curious if they ever got to play ESO or enjoy the game. I knew that about the WoW Devs as I read a thread or two when I use to play WoW. It's a shame we can't have a civil conversation with them about something so innocuous as do you play and what class do you play.

It's not so much to enjoy the game as it is to keep in-touch with the actual state of gameplay conditions and balance in the game.

In other words, it is hard to properly balance something if you're not actually experienced at doing that content at a relatively high level.

Given some of the... odd... balance choices that have come down recently, one does begin to wonder how much time the development team actually spends playing.

And here he just posted this video of Xynode's stream where he played vet dungeons with 3 of the devs:

    Unequivocally yes.

It may be hard for some (including myself at times) to believe, but they do play and experience the same bugs and performance issues everyone else does. It's tempting to beat them up and accuse them of being aloof and unaware, but that is simply not the case.

I think it would be a scandal if they didn't play xD
Obviously some do play, i refuse to believe they don't and although they have to work around it many hours per day @YandereGirlfriend post above says everything about it
But i agree that there are "some" odd balance decisions every update/DLC which lead us to believe otherwise

But all the credit to developers for such great work (i like to criticize what i think It's wrong, but i always give much more credit to their overall work)

A couple of years ago I ran into one who chilled with us for a few minutes and then started kicking some bots out of the game. So, yes, you don't see them often but they are there. My guess is they're there often but in stealth mode so we don't generally see them. Was fun to hang for a few minutes and watch him do his thing. :)

That must have been a loooooong "couple of years". I think they stopped doing that close to 7 years ago.

I know the employees play the game during their non-working hours.

I do not think that ZOS employees or associates use company accounts to log into the live game as part of their daily assigned job. ToS enforcement probably does not require it. QA might do it after patches and maintenance, but before the server goes live. Outside of that, I can't see a reason for them to be on the live servers while working.

I listened to the video this morning and when Rich said he dropped a Sharpened Maelstrom Inferno on the dev server, when it took him 2 years to get it on live, I felt that. :D

The only playtime they have is sitting in zones waiting to ban people for cursing

Or sitting on the forums waiting for the first negative thing to be said about eso, and deleting threads/banning people.

Considering the amount of cursing that often goes on in zone chat, coupled with the fact that there's a profanity filter for any players who don't want to read profanity, I'd say you're mistaken about that.

First of all, I think objectionable comments in zone chat probably don't even register on ZOS's radar at all unless some player reports them.

And second, any reported comments will likely be reviewed carefully before making a determination of how to respond. If the offensive comment was merely "cursing," I imagine the person who made the report might be pointed toward the profanity filter with the suggestion to use it to filter out profanity. But if the offending comment was far more than just "cursing," then yeah, it might call for banning the person who blatantly broke the TOS/COC.

Again, I think you're mistaken about that. There are many, many posts, and even entire threads, which are critical of ZOS in general and ESO in particular. Only someone who doesn't actually read the forums could truly believe that any negative comments gets deleted, because negative comments abound.

If a negative comment gets edited, or deleted entirely, it is not simply for being "negative," but rather for being objectionable for some other reason that's against the TOS/COC.

I was going to refer to the recent Xynode video, but I see someone has already posted it. I watched the whole thing a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed it. One of the things I found endearing, along with them cheerfully pushing thru multiple wipes on a vet HM final boss, was the way they bemoaned their own bad luck on RNG. Someone (sorry...I forget who) that he hated to open crates on the dev server because he figured if he got a rare apex mount on that server, it would blow his chances of getting one on Live.

So yeah, they play and they seem like they’d be fun to play with, too.

I find this type of comment strange. There are maybe a few hundred people who post on the forum...if you assume only 1 in 10 people post, that is maybe a few thousand that actually read the forums. The vast majority of the people would never recognize any of the staff even if they went by their forum names and started talking in zone chat. For that matter, if I joined a group with one of them, I doubt I would recognize the name(aside from Gina, Matt, or Rich)...and even if I did, I would just assume it was someone posing as staff.

As to whether they play the game...maybe a few do, but generally speaking most people don't do work-related stuff when they get home. At this point, they are probably like long-term casual players...log in once a week maybe. They are long since bored with the game and I doubt any of the changes they make actually affect them personally .
