Psijic Portal? Psijic trashcan is more like it. I've seen better loot on a mudcrab.

Leveled what up? To get access to the Psijic portals you just have to unlock the skill line.

When you check them while leveling they’re pretty much always worth it.

Psijic portals over 10-12 characters for the 2.5+ years I've played have made my sticker book(s) very happy.

If you do quests in remote areas / off hours you find plenty of them.

Infused jewelry trait items or Exemplary jewelry pieces are trash? Random zone set pieces are trash? Leads are trash? Kutas are trash? Those Psijic portals are better than the enchanting nodes they share spawn locations with.

The OP isn't all wrong, since Psijic Portals are mainly just Enchanting nodes with a few random extras tossed in. Since the extras can vary by zone, it matters which zone the OP was in. For instance, the starter zones have only one dropped set, so that could be part of their problem right there.

And if the OP had been farming nodes in starter zones then it could have been possible to grab a hundred or more Psijic Portals if it was an "off" time when not many players were on, depending on how long the OP was farming, since nodes seem to be more densely packed and to respawn more quickly in the starter zones.

Edit: However, rereading the OP's post, there's no mention of how long it took to open "hundreds" of Psijic Portals, so it was probably over a period of time, not all in one play session.

Which means they're great, because it's got "a few random extras tossed in". Which makes it automatically better than if it wasn't there, because that would just be an enchanting node.


(I'm guessing the separation here is between the people who think that loot is garbage if it isn't Amazing, and the people who'll happily take everything from a chest.)

I swear, Treasure Hunter must apply to the Psijic Portals just like it does to chests in overland, because I used to pretty much always get crap from them with CP 1.0 until I had enough points for Treasure Hunter, and then suddenly noticed I was getting far better loot. I always thought they had been buffed or something, never attributed it to Treasure Hunter. Then with CP 2.0 I didn't bother to get it as I was focused on other passives, and I noticed the quality of loot from them had degraded; I searched through the patch notes for anything regarding Psijic portals but couldn't find anything. Just recently, I slotted Treasure Hunter again and the quality seemingly improved; whereas before I was getting greens and rarely blues, suddenly I started finding purple quality loot. I don't know if it's a bug, intended, or maybe I'm just going nuts and there's nothing there at all, but I think maybe Psijic portals are coded the same way as chests and using Treasure Hunter might help.

I think it's supposed to be that way, and always has been.

And yeah, I'm one of those people who will happily loot a lone piece of green gear from an already-opened treasure chest, or a few lone lockpicks from an already-opened thieves trove, or a few lone worms from an already-harvested Clothing node, etc. So I wasn't criticizing Psijic Portals myself, just noting that the "quality" of the extras can depend on which zone you're in, not to mention different people's opinions about whether something is "trash" or "treasure."

Tested it and it seems to be true.

I got Bouyant Armiger motifs out of it during the event. They aren't trash, they rock. The zones where they are plentiful are plentiful for a reason. The Psijic portal is only as good as the loot in the zone it's in

I managed to find the Imperial Style in Cyrodiil from a portal. It's all about the rates.

Opening portals you can obtain up to two Kutas, Ambrosia, expensive motifs (~30k), Aurbic Amber and violet jewelry at the same time. Don't tell me it's worthless.

Have you not found any ambrosia potions yet? Two of the best things about psijic portal loot is if you're in a DLC zone, you can get a motif chapter from ANY of the available motifs in that zone, regardless of how it's aquired normally (ie. Pyandorian motif from Summerset), as well as a small chance to get a Psijic Ambrosia potion. It also drops aurbic Amber (or pieces thereof).

Portals are well worth it, not to mention the off chance of also getting a Kuta rune.

I am always happy when I find a Psijic portal. They often contain Kuta and the other things are useful for materials as well. On my last birthday I found 6 portals within 5 minutes, three of which were visible together - I thought that was a small birthday present from Zos.
