Coming from pve to pvp and would like advice :)

I've played eso for many many years but always Pve.
And I decided that i miss out on a huge part of the game by not playing pvp. So I took one if my characters (magsorc) and convertee to full-time pvp. And I did my research on builds just like in pve. I think my build comes from Malcolm.

So I didn't expect much and thought i would be live bait, but after a few hours i started to apply shields and buffs more fluently and managed to kill a few players.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely get destroyed, however that feels like it's on me and not the gear.
Having a hard time facing nightblades for emexample (or every class 1on1 haha) since I only got 10 hours in Cyrodiil.

So I'm coming here for advice, on for example how to use block, when to roll. Or other useful advices as a magsorc or pvp in general :)

Quite contrary , You have not missed basically anything. PvP aspect is never a "huge" part of any MMO. It was mostly optional way for players to find some sort of entertainment at "end game" Yet the End game vision is something that could be debated forever,However do not stress it out, the foundations of MMO are built and maintained through PVE which is always a core and has its strongest points, PvP in most part to put it lightly is annoying, laggy and addictive/competitive in a bad way, Can corrupt with one with ease.

PvP can be really fun and it's where I first really started to make friends in this game.

I can't help much with magsorc other then to say keep at range as much as possible- streak is your biggest asset in that regard. I won't even bother fighting most magsorcs, they're just too mobile.

My main advice is join groups, listen and learn.... now that I say that I guess it's probably easier on console where we have built in in game voice chat. On PC watch and learn I guess?... for real how do you guys run in pick up groups without voice chat? 😮

Block when you see (& hear) a meteor on it's way! :D

Streak through melee enemies when they get too close.

Keep your HoTs running. Put a haunting curse on Nightblades before they cloak. Always throw a fury on low health enemies to steal the kill :D

Live sacrifice to the Deity of LAG. It won't help but ya may as well do something when the crippling lag hits & you can't use skills or fire siege or do anything...

You're not missing out on much. Pvp is only small part of the game. Cyrodiil is 90% of the time horse riding simulator and playerbase is very toxic. If you get killed, you also get insulted and teabaged. And if you kill someone then you get hate whispers and called a cheater etc.
I'm not even get into the performance, lag, DCs and so on.

[snip] the OP is clearly interested in PvP and wants to talk about it. It's not a thread to change his mind. [snip]

I started PvE and found the end game lack luster and a few elitist experiences with some unhelpful folks pretty much put me off it. PvP however has a great community with guilds out to help and common focus, and it's certainly kept my end game alive for years. Plus it's dynamic, personally think spending hounds fighting static dummies to eek out the last 0.1% feels pretty dull.

Each to their own, and good for the OP they tucking Into something new.

Welcome to PvP @Gulnagel ! It's a cool aspect to the game. Varied and dynamic and some cool communities.

MagSorc is a great option and if you are enjoying it 10hrs in then things will only get better. That start of the journey is the hardest.

Malcolm is an excellent base point, he's a legend so you won't go far wrong there. Just keep practicing, get in with some alliance guilds if you want to learn map tactics etc and enjoy.

Yes, i only made friends when i started pvp and it just is the most fun content in the game.

As far as magsorc goes, i can't help at all. I'm such a poor mag player that i respecced all mag toons into healers, that is only mag type of play i know. Magsorc in group is great obviously for the negate and all and streak into the enemies. I only really know group play for mag. But i hope you have fun :)

This is wrong on so many levels...

PvP is in many MMORPGs as big as PvE. There are even distinct PvP MMORPGs like Black Desert, EVE Online and even ESO. Warhammer Online had a strong PvP focus as well, but we know how that game ended.

For the first months ESO didn’t even have PvE endgame content. ESO was marketed as the new massive PvP (RvR) MMORPG that’s the successor of Dark Age of Camelot - only after the years it changed more to a PvE perspective, but what keeps ESO going on Twitch, YouTube & Co. is the PvP aspect of the game as Cyrodiil might have major performance problems, but it’s still enjoyable and the outstanding part of the game (nothing in endgame PvE in ESO is outstanding or particularly interesting).

PvE in ESO is a snooze fest in my opinion. PvP isn’t and totally worth it to be tried and played. Just because you don’t like PvP or are not capable of being competitive / having fun there it mustn’t be a bad part of the game.

    Some tips:

PvP is all about burst, pressure, and sustain.

Burst is how much damage you can do over 1-3 seconds, and usually with a stun. Pressure is about dealing steady damage and making them need to heal instead of attack, or to reduce their health for your burst combo. And sustain is how well you can keep up your stamina, health, and for many builds, magicka.

It's good to roll dodge once after breaking free if they're stunning you for their burst combo, or after using a heal-over-time when you need some space. If you're under 75% health, you're in danger of being bursted down. Just don't wanna dodge twice in a row unless necessary, cuz it costs more to use in quick succession.

Stuns are important to use either to kill your enemy or protect yourself by stopping their burst and pressure. I personally like Streak for this because it's unblockable & undodgeable.

Nightblades: If you can't see them, use a damage shield and/or a heal-over-time. Then when they stun you, you have a heal/shield already applied to you. Nightblades usually want to hit you with Death Stroke (the ult with the loud sound, takes ~20 seconds to recharge) and Grim Focus (a powerful attack that takes 5 seconds to get ready). When they jump on you, breaking free into a roll dodge into casting a stun while blocking will waste their burst combo. Might need to heal, too. The tough part is then dealing damage to them. Usually that would stop their offense, but a lot of nightblades tend to just go back to being invisible.

One helpful tactic against average-skill nightblades is to use Ice Comet (Mages Guild ultimate). You only need half a second of sight on them to cast it, and it's guaranteed to pull them out of invisibility when it hits a few seconds later. But you'll have to kill them fast before they poof again, so hopefully you already have some good damage lined up. Feels great when it works lol.

I don't play much magsorc these days, but they usually kill me by debuffing me with Elemental Drain, using Mage's Wrath and hitting me with Crystal Frags right when Haunting Curse hits. It's terrible lmao. It's really helpful to know the other classes' skills, cuz then you know what they need to kill you.

Dottz usually has better PvP builds than Alcast. Often, people pick a sustain set with a damage set. PvP is very bursty right now, so most people are relying on dodge roll & block really heavily. A lot of tanky builds also NEED their ultimate and an unstopped burst combo to kill other high skill players, so be ready if someone with 30k+ health seems to be stalling the fight in Cyrodiil. I recommend Bewitched Sugar Skulls food for mag builds personally. The Stamina and Health recovery are a big help.

Good luck out there : p

as someone who played this game since beta i can confirm that there were 2 main things advertised "huge battles and sieges" and "elder scrolls epic lore" never was there any point about some hardcore raiding and stuff.

was allways like "yeh u will discover the world of tamriel and we have this big battlefield in cyrodiil its epic "

    OP,
First, make sure you are only running functioning sets. Cyrodiil is currently limited to 19 fully functional sets, significantly restricting your build options.

But an even better solution, just run BG's instead of cyrodiil. For a new pvper, you'll get much more consistent, even-footed combat out of BGs then you'll ever find in cyrodiil. It makes for a much more efficient learning environment.

Free tip ... when approaching a battle be the last person off your horse. If everyone is on their horse no one can hurt you. If people get off their horse they cannot catch you. So ideally you want to wait to dismount until the absolute last possible moment you can. This allows for a greater variety of ways to approach the battle.

How big if a difference does cp make? I'm around 1000 cp. And People are talking like its the end of the world to go up against lets say a cp 1300 if you are only cp 1000.

Is it a big difference and if so, at what point does cp become some what irrelevant?

I’m at 890 and don’t blink at anyone less than 1600.

It’s really not a big deal if you take the time to really get under the hood for you CP and build towards your strengths.

I believe a 200 point CP game is nearly irrelevant and 400 is fine. Above 600 or so the difference becomes more noticeable but nothing you can’t overcome with good play.

Best advice I can give you is to throw out what you “know” about builds and build towards what you do best.

Sorry for the double post but to be clear ...

If you are built the same way as someone with 400 more CP than you and a similar skill level you’ll lose.

If you build out of the box you’ll be fine. More than enough CP to go around even below 900. I think after 950 everything will be completely superfluous for me.
