ZONE OF THE DAY

I had an idea to help spark interest and increase traffic in older zones. You could have a Zone of the Day. Every day a different zone (no starter zones) would be featured and you could offer various rewards in that zone. Rewards such as 50% bonus xp, 25% chance of double drops on nodes. You could also create a loot bag that has say a 20% chance of dropping from bosses and 10% chance from nodes and 100% from a daily quest. Inside the bag you would have a chance at acquiring a number of possible rewards such as style mats, alchemy mats, upgrade mats, treasure maps, style pages, motifs, blueprints, with more valuable rewards dropping less frequently. I'm sure the community can offer other ideas for rewards in the zone of the day. Not only would this offer us a good reason to explore old zones but the increased traffic will help people who are looking to complete world bosses, dragons and Harrowstorms that require multiple players to complete. There are over 25 non starter zone areas so each zone would come up approximately once a month in the rotation. A zone of the week I don't think would have the same effect as peope would get tired of it after a few days and the zone would only come around in rotation twice a year as opposed to once a monthish.

1 daily zone per day would be pretty bad. We'd be hitting event-level masses gathering in a single zone, while leaving the rest of the world even emptier than it was before. But the rewards and bonuses you mention do sound good! It could be a fun way to give incentive to run certain maps more regularly (rather than not having stepped foot in them in months haha).

GW2 does this - they have daily rewards for a chosen cluster of zones. One chosen map from each of their 'Living World Season' clusters is chosen for the day and you get extra loot, xp and materials there. Like for an ESO Parallel, they have a DC 'season' cluster (1 daily zone is the DC daily for one day), AD cluster, EP cluster and DLC cluster... you could have 5 daily maps per day (AD, DC, EP, DLC, ex-Chapter). (Of course, WoW's World Quest system is better than all of these, but I think that would be far beyond ZOS to implement).

They also have Map Rewards. The first time you complete a map, you get some loot. (When the 'Zone Guide' was added, many of us commented how disappointing it is that it's essentially an UI overlay without any reward for 'completing' a whole zone). And earning xp further on the map also gives you bonus loot, like you'll see some extra Scales dropping on some coastline zones, extra Hides dropping in Wilderness zones, etc.

An alternative (but more boring) way would be to add something like Pledges for overland. You'd need a daily currency and a set of new rewards. They could even just add this new daily currency to old daily quests, so we have more reason to return to them even after we have everything (and if they don't drop anything good to be worth farming for gold). And for the old zones, just transform some quests into daily repeatable quests so that all zones have some currency-earning opportunites.

A good idea, although it's one more thing to get around to doing each day and if someone missed a day where the zone they needed a particular set from was the daily, it would likely be quite frustrating. I think something like what you said but for a week at a time instead would be a great idea, and I look forward to seeing what kinds of incentives people suggest.
