Senior Technical Artist (Character Systems)
DEPARTMENT ART DIVISION ZENIMAX ONLINE STUDIOS LOCATION HUNT VALLEY MD
Overview
ZeniMax Online Studios is seeking a Senior Technical Artist that will be focused on character systems to join our studio for the development of our next AAA game. This is a chance to join an experienced group of developers in pre-production for a new IP.

The ideal candidate is a skilled Technical Artist with extensive experience building systems to support character production. Character customization is an important aspect of this IP and extends into nearly everything the player can do. You will be working with small, multidisciplinary groups of artists, designers and engineers to develop efficient, intuitive workflows, build production tools, and identify performance metrics parameters.

^ ZOS is hiring positions to work on their new tripple A title, but thats besides the main point here..

Can we trust the direction eso is going, and what will be left to inherit if the base foundation of former updates are "faulty"? will the game still hold up?
ESO is made for us, the player, the community to essentially inherit with every update. This is ours. We funded, we helped, we gave feedback. we are by every right entitled to it and our opinions about it.

As of late the devs dont see that, and only care about their content, their direction. and how they feel about the game. and new content strongly overshadows core issues left behind that need addressed.

will eso be negelected? thoughts?

well of course, but my question isnt who will be working on the new project, but instead "who's currently working on the projects?"

meaning atm eso's team is split up to also work on this new project until they hire sombody to fill in.

We've known that Bethesda has been working on at least one new ip for literally years. The fact that they are currently actively hiring for it likely means absolutely nothing for ESO.

    🤦‍♂️

Yes. The fact that that other project has likely been being worked on while ESO has been running concurrently is precisely my point. The fact that they are either hiring additional personnel or replacing personnel for it at this time likely means nothing for ESO.
possibly they have taken staff away from current projects to work on this new one.

Yes, and possibly Todd Howard is a reptilian alien from another dimension who feeds off of my personal sense of disappointment, but unless we actually have any proof for either possibility, both amout to nothing more than idle and baseless speculation.

That first part is true only to a point.

Regardless, what can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence. 🤷‍♂️

That a large game company with an MMO, can't work on additional projects without neglecting the MMO?

I bet Blizzard would be interested to learn that. ;)

They're also hiring people specifically to work on ESO. I'm not going to look at all the individual jobs but the careers page includes several where ESO is in the job title.

Does that mean we should conclude they're neglecting all their other projects to focus on ESO?

    2 years of discussion this.
But after 2 years since the first news about the new project we can see that devs starts to save on 3d-modeling (and it was said in 2019). Why? I don't know. But you can see a result on a very similar locations during a year. Then there was some save on a few more elements. I'm a bit afraid about the project status.

Someone who makes the decisions (production manager) is at fault.

No one else. The vision is clear for this game. You can hire 100s of people and pump out the outfits, costumes and systems, zones, DLCs, but without proper attention to quality and glitches other than on the cash shop, you distance yourselves from the cash.

They are getting new hardware. I like that decision.

I know of hundreds of quality issues that need to be addressed once their hardware is installed.

The idea that there needs to be 1000s of people with same bug to address it, is just plain wrong.

Especially when most of my issues can be fixed in minutes.

That's where I feel the distance between me and the service provider.

Otherwise it's a solid vision, set in a wonderful work of art, which I feel will continue to grow for at least another 3 to 5 years.

    Good luck.

    That's it, that's all.

ZOS reminds me of my step father. He'd have me help him build his projects with him. when he was done with a project tho, he'd move on. he wouldnt even try to manage it. so the older projects suffered where as he only had tunnel vision for the future, and past problems were never adressed.

im glad you asked, simply put "trust". when you work on somthing and they tell ya for years "this is yours" and yo uthink your opinion matters and they leave you a part of their legacy behind... then they dont.

we "trusted" ZOS, when we gave them our opinion and support, that they would leave us somthign worth while behind.

as much like my stepfather. it's ont othe next project, former content isnt really touched. and the legacy is ruined.

ESO, as a community. this is built for US. the players. game studios dont build games for themselves. (unless its a super rich guy with a vision). but ukw i mean.

ANYWAYS! point being~, is eso catered to us anymore, or are these changes to both work effort, and the game itself. to benefit them? minimal effort, their opinions are the only ones thta matter. etc

Can we trust the direction eso is going

You're assuming the game has a direction at all, to start with.

For the past few years, it's been "make changes that only benefit PvP, and may be detrimental to everyone else, without a care to give", and only recently have we seen that trend stop, and even slightly reverse.

Then, you have the trip down memory lane. First, Morrowind, a throwback to 2002's major hit. Just like back then, the Tribunal faces a threat, just a different one. Then, Skyrim, and it's basically the same story : dragons. Now we're getting Oblivion, because we apparently need the whole package of "we've done that in other games, so we'll do it here too". I'm already uninterested by this year's content, and it hass barely even started to come out.

Quite frankly, if the direction was to change from nostalgia to something actually new, something that we've seen only in ESO, instead of trying to bank on player's memories, I'd be pleasantly surprised. Because what we have now isn't a direction, it's a marketing ploy. But at least the new champion system is good.
