Greymoor and Markarth sets are a nightmare to manage

fxeconomisteb17_ESO
Managing sets used to be okay, until someone at Zenimax had a brilliant idea to make unique and interesting names for equipment, without having their set name in the title.
So instead of having easy naming to just search and have them grouped up, as "* of Eternal Vigor" or "* of Venomous Smite", we have names without any link to the set name.

These are for instance from the Witch-Knight set

Cowl of the Wandering hero
Hare-Tracker boots
Hunt-Father Spaulders
Leggings of the Quck Fox
Reach-Warden Jack

While before Greymoor this happened in rare occasions, now it's the rule and it's a complete mess.

I deconstructed them on principle after a few minutes of 'inventory wars'.

I hadn't heard of the Gordian knot before. Thanks. I looked it up, and was delighted by the story.

Here it is for any others that might be curious. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordian_Knot

The addon "GearSetsSort" used to solve this for me, but it has not been updated for Markarth. It handles the Greymoor sets, though, and I suppose updating it would not be a huge effort for someone with the right coding skills.

Those DLC didn't introduce that phenomenon.

There are plenty of sets from the base game that have unique names that don't correspond to the set names.

I've got a handful of heavy armor with "Skald-King" in their name that are actually part of the Akaviri Dragonguard set.

If it bothers you, deconstruct them and reconstruct generic versions, or just find the generic versions.

That's been a thing since base game. Quest reward items tend to have unique names. You've just likely never noticed until Greymoor. Khenarthi's Roost, one of the very first areas you can explore in the game, gives an item called the Broadhead Shield. This could be the first quest you do, presuming you don't start in a DLC zone, and it's a part of the Trainee set.

those are uniquely named items that you can find in dungeons too like the Ring of the Ancient One which is part of Worm's Cult set ring.

my problem is with sets that have the set name after the set pieces.

for example like Siroria's Gloves and Gauntelts of Medusa. Why not Medusa's Gauntlets? items from multiple sets are a mess to find in inventory, why is not every set named first by the set name and after that the armor piece name.

It was a thing back at launch. They stopped doing this around the Imperial City, and now they've brought it back. It won't help people on console, but there's this, and it is still maintained.

    Works out something like this:

    rBxE2Rh.jpg

(Note: I am also using Inventory Grid View, there. Normally they'd still be listed out like normal. Also using Perfect Pixel)

Without IGV, it'll look more like this:

    TxtPxgU.jpg

It can take a little work to set it up just the way you like, but there is a lot of flexibility.

Now which one it is ? You pointed the Auto Category - Revised,

But when I checked Minion, it displays 4 of them. And the first one is called Auto Category - Custom inventory Category and it has more users. So is it the Revised the one I need ?

It's the Revised version. I'm also running the "Revised plugin for CraftStore" though, I'll admit, I'm not sure if that's necessary, but I do also run CraftStore.

I actually like the interesting names of the unique set pieces. i just wish there was something special about them to set them apart, like a slightly different stat or possibly make then just a tad bit stronger than the rest of the set pieces to set them apart. Nothing too crazy, but just a bit different...such a missed opportunity IMO.

Some of them do exactly that. Named Jewelry pieces frequently have non-standard traits or enchantments. (This was the only way to get specific traits on jewelry back in the pre-Summerset era.)

I don't know why it doesn't work. I've been thru the code, and as much as I understand from it, it's very clean. There is no data section of the code to tell which pieces are part of which set. There is therefore no distinction between content types. Everything should work by functions, and it seems it just doesn't work.

There are a ton of items in game with unique names. This actually makes certain sets easier to farm if you know a named item drops with a trait that you want from a particular quest. For instance the Armor of the Trainee set has a reinforced cuirass that has a unique name (Gallant Chain) from the main quest in Stros M'kai (for no proc pvp this is nice).

That would be nice. I too like the unique names, although I agree that it does make it hard to find in inventory. Perhaps they could have a "sort by set" function added.

I remember getting a named piece in a trait I didn't want and deconstructing it and keeping the generic with a trait I did want. Then a few weeks later they introduced transmutation...
I mean it doesn't really matter but I was disappointed at the time.

Some of the named set pieces are also in a different motif than the rest of the set. For the few oddballs out there like me who don't use the outfit system much and like to look like the armor actually being worn (helps me keep track of which sets they have on) it gives one some additional options.

Named items are unique version of said piece. They also drop with the standard default style name for the item set. Unique items are either quest rewards or drop from specific boss monsters.

Personally I prefer those uniquely named versions and am know to go to fairly great lengths to get them for any set I use. I do my best to find each through actual game play, though I have ended up buying some from guild stores.(Usually after having failed to make it drop form some world boss after having killed it 50 times in a row. The drop rates for some of them are just atrocious.) I also store any I find, that are behind RNG drops, that I have no use for at the moment. You know, just in case they one day become good thanks to the wild-swings school of game design ZOS subscribes to.

I find named items to feel more like traditional magic items you find while adventuring. I find it cooler to lug around a named version with a bit of backstory, than just another generic bog standard default version. Most of my character sport a fair number of such unique, named items. I find it much more interesting to be able to recall what monster I had to slay for each particular piece, or what sort of quest I had to do to receive it.

I suppose it does make for a messier inventory management, but for me at least, that is fairly irrelevant thing.
