Any news about Loading times (US Server)

duncanahel
Hi All,
Loading times is still an issue Like 3-4 minutes to enter the game, etc.
Just clocked like 3 minutes to the character screen and between 3-4 minutes from character screen to the game.

Having to wait like 7 minutes to play is totally a turn-off.

Is this being assesed by developers / Zenimax?

Loaded in just now on PC NA: login to character screen 40 seconds, character load in another 45 seconds - and that's on satellite with quite high ping.

Please specify if you're using an HDD or an SSD - that alone makes a huge difference.

Loading times on my Xbox One X were... long. And annoying. Loading times on my Series X are pretty negligible, I am not even to fully read loading screen texts anymore. Haven't tested Cyrodiil yet, but all other loading screens have been drastically reduced by going from HDD to SSD.

This, think memory also matter, with 48 GB I did not notice any defense going from HDD to an fast M2 SSD on PC-EU.
    Around 40 second I think.

    Im located in Argentina
I have to receive a new SSD today / tomorrow. Will try again once i switch the game to it.

Well, could in your case just be the actual distance to the servers then - and however your ISP routes you to them.

It is something in the game. I have short times and long times, with no clear reason for the difference. PS4 NA and EU.

    Something is mucked up.

Telling me "this may be an unusually long load time" is useless as well BTW. I already know that by the time it comes up.

The worse part is the times the indicator at the bottom stops moving. I don't know whether it is truly hung or it will come back. Completely restarting the game takes time, only to sometimes get to the same place....

I wouldn't have believed it before I got my PS5 but the length of the loading times is mostly dependent on the client hardware. Going from a 4 Pro to PS5 reduced all loading times by like 1000%. I've gotten an "unusually long loading screen" only twice in three months since I upgraded.
I also bought the PC version to try on my gaming PC that has a super fast SSD and load times are even faster than on PS5. It takes around 10 seconds at each loading screen that used to take 2-3 minutes on PS4 Pro.

Both games on the same non-OS SSD:

ESO time to character select screen - 55 seconds, in game - 2:05, switching characters - 1:36
GW2 time to character select screen - 6 seconds, in game - 16 seconds, switching characters - 8 seconds

If I remove all addons I can skim another 20 seconds off from character screen to in-game, but it's still terrible compared to other games no matter how you slice it.

edit: I have also noticed that characters with less stuff and less accomplished tend to load in way faster. That seems like something that ZoS should be able to improve upon with some database management.

I don’t know, but there might be something wrong with your SSD. On my Series X the loading times are maybe 20% of your SSD loading times. Is your SSD almost full? Or is it a rather old SSD from several years ago?

I know ESO loading times are excessive on HDD, but SSD should be significantly faster than yours imho.

Have you timed it with a stopwatch? Because if you are loading from password input->character select screen->in-game control in 25 seconds like you say (20% of my 165s), then indeed there is something very wrong with my PC (doubtful seeing as how all other games on the SAME SSD load superfast) or with the PC version of the game or PC servers.

My SSD is only a year old, and still has 120GB free on it out of 500.

EDIT: Keeping in mind that on XBOX you have no addons, so my load in time goes to around 1:45 instead of 2:05 without addons.

EDIT 2: Just to be clear, I think this is a network loading issue on ZoS side. I think their servers or their data collection system for your characters is just slow and inefficient. My network speed is 100 up 750 down, which in testing is pretty much spot on at all times of day.

That sounds about right to me, or should I say that's my experience as well. Depending on your character levels, completed content, achievements, inventory, etc.. it takes a little longer or shorter.

Also of note, wayshrining within the same zone is about 2 seconds. Wayshrining to a different zone is about 6-7 seconds which is very good and about on par with all other games I play online.

To get it right: from starting ESO to the character in game you need 2:05? And from logout of a character to login another one takes 1:36 (character 1 in game > logout to character selection > character 2 in game)?

Yeah, my mains take longer - the 50s with lots of stuff, CP, fair amount of content complete.

EU takes about half again that long for me on lower level characters.

As to your edit re wayshrining - those are virtually identical to my numbers.

    Ok, just did some testing:

    1. Starting ESO from the homescreen to the character selection: 40 seconds

    2. Character selection to character in game: 20 seconds

    >>> ~ 60 seconds from starting the game until character in game (my 20% was just a wild guess, but it still is way faster than yours)

    3. Character in game logout to character selection: 13 seconds

    4. Character selection after logout to login character into the game: 25 seconds

    >>> ~ 38 seconds character logout to character login again

Xbox Series X - EU server.

Well then clearly I want the Xbox log-in server on PC! ;)

Also I have noticed that the loading screens with the pictures (once you get past "Requesting Character Load" are only around 10 seconds (+/- 20 seconds if I have my addons). It's really the character load from the server that takes so long.

Also, just curious if you are comfortable saying, how many characters do you have on that account? I have 10 with only 2 that are sub-50. I wonder if character numbers affects load time until select screen.

I think Xbox is a bit different, but on PC you:

    1. Start launcher, hit play on the launcher screen which takes you to;
    2. login credentials screen, hit "login" after entering password which then loads up the;
    3. Character select screen, which after selecting and "requesting character load" takes you to a load screen then;
    4. in-game

So I measure the 2:05 (1:45 without addons) right after hitting "login" in step 2 and quickly selecting a character without pause until getting to (4).

Then I am even faster on Xbox because I stopped time from the moment I clicked the game on my homescreen and not from the moment I logged into the game (e.g. starting the game, seeing Zenimax credits first - I skipped over that as good as possible). If I would have gone from the moment I logged into my account (we don’t type in password and account name, we just click „ok“ to log into our account) it would have been 15-20 faster than what I said.

Either the PC servers suck in comparison (I guess there are more PC players than console players, so that might be a reason?) or there is something wrong with your SSD or installed version of ESO.

5 characters, 3 max level and 2 recently created.

I really can’t complain, login on Xbox EU with my Series X has become very fast. On my One X before it was quite painful though.

    It's really amusing really.

Remember all that fuss about downloading the hole game so it would be indexed better to aid in fast load times? it was a big deal, I dont know how many updates ago. It was to improve performance....did it......er no just like pretty much the whole last year of performance improvements.

Situation normal...move on....nothing to see here.

There is a problem with load times, mail and water graphics. Log in should be snappy and mail should be instant. This is just 7 years of living with bad game design.
