I know there's a lot of proc set threads out there, there's even a fresh poll on the front page today. So apologies to anyone who's tired of hearing about it. But this idea occured to me a while ago and I haven't seen anyone else post it so I wanted to put it out there.
There seems to be few suggestions that keep coming up. We've all seen them, we all have our favorites of them. They all have one thing in common, nerf the free damage. What if instead of nerfing them, we created actual counter-play.
My idea is pretty simple really, treat proc sets as a channel that can be interupted with a bash or stun. You're fighting someone and thier crimson procs? bash them, put it cool down. Someone running around spamming poison inject applying venomous and or sheer venom to everyone? Hit them with a ranged stun forcing to utilize other abilities for duration of the cool down.
This would make people think twice about going full tank proc since thier damage could be nullified by someone who's quick to react, without completely killing the top end potential of the playstyle for people who enjoy building that way.
It could even create new options for people who enjoy the playstyle. As channels, proc sets would now be boosted by sets and passives that boost channeled abilities. But, with real counter-play to proc sets they wouldn't be able to run around unhindered, there'd be a tangible risk/reward to building this way.
This would also have a greater impact in PvP where proc sets are complained about, than in PvE where proc sets are actually a viable way of raising the floor.
This could be something that applies to all proc sets including those that simply boost stats, meaning yes someone could cancel your briar heart but also that you could potentially boost the damage and healing given by it. Or it could be relegated only to those sets who's effects correlate more directly to channeled abilities.
I thought about doing this as a poll but while thinking of poll options I decided it would play better as an open discussion. There's just too many variables. Like how the interupt would work. If someone has multiple procs active should one interupt cancel them all, or just the most recent one activated, or the first activated, or one at random.
For now I'm just curious what people think of the idea in a more broad sense. If there's anything to work with here or if I'm just crazy for thinking it
