This is in the patch notes:

System Mail Deletion & Organization Changes
-Beginning with this update, System Mails will now remain in your inbox for a limited time, after which they will be deleted. This mirrors the current behavior of player-sent mail.
System Mails include:
-Mails sent by NPCs (such as Hirelings)
-Mails containing Collector's Edition rewards
-Mails sent for completing PvP activities (such as Rewards for the Worthy and Battleground completion rewards)
-Mails sent for completing random dungeon runs, such as Premium Undaunted Exploration Supplies mails
-Mails containing Guild Trader purchases
-Mails that have been 'bounced' from another player (such as CoD items that have been refused)
-When this update launches, all System Mails you currently have in your inbox will be given a timer of 30 days. When that timer gets close to running out, the mail will be highlighted with red text and iconography to indicate it will soon expire. When a System Mail's timer expires, that mail (and any items or gold that might be attached to it) will be deleted.
-In addition, for Keyboard/Mouse mode only, we've added headers to separate player-sent mails from System Mails.

Now I know some of you use your mails as banks, so be ready for this as your attachments will be deleted.

However, for me I was saving mail from when the game first started, Some of y mail from ZOS dates back 84 months at this point. So if you (like me) are nostalgic for these early emails and kept them. Start taking screenshots now.

    I remember seeing this earlier.

The main concern I have about this system is that I feel like they need to take a very close look at how guild trade transactions interact with the mail system. Customers loosing items to the mail system is... not something that should happen. I understand the need to streamline the database, but surely there is a way to do that AND make it so customer items/gold aren't deleted.

For gold in particular, is there really any reason why we need it in a mail attachment anyway? Can't it just be deposited directly to the player's bank and there could be some function that pulls from the guild logs for those who care about tracking their sales? Items would be more complicated since there are inventory limits, but couldn't those direct deposit in a player's bank too?

Well concerning gold, for me it works better as an attachment. I run things for the guild and it's nice to see a record of who contributed and how much. I can then pass that on the the GM, and it is easy for me to keep track.

If they went directly to say my bank, I would hope there would be a record of it. And I would have to match up emails to donations which can force being a bit of a pain.

Guild trader purchases already have a 30 day timer, it's no different with those. From the notes, it's just adding fancy colors and stuff.

Eh? Player-sent mail doesn't autodelete currently... Since months, actually (I think it might have started with Greymoor?). So that will be fixed too? (I hope I understand this right; I'm not a native English speaker).

Guess it's time to decon all the leaderboards mailed gear collecting dust for years and use those pre-order scrolls, sigh.
