Not Getting Proper XP from Kills

I am PC/NA.
In Auridon the Firsthold Quest to close the three portals to the Deadlands I noticed when fighting through the Daedra to get to the portal entrances that I am only receiving 1 XP for killing full health (30,000+ hit points) creatures. Once in the portals the XP is normal.
Is this a known bug or "feature".
