Where were ZOS QA testers before the PTS?

In the latest PTS, ZOS said: "Haggler may return in the future as a potential new star, but its current form has too many exploitable cases that need in-depth investigation before solutions can be found in time." ZOS QA testers should have investigated this even before the first iteration of the PTS. What this tells me is that some people are lying when talking about QA being able to do some achievements in the bugged environment of the PTS. This tells me there was never a QA testing and it was the players who are actually doing it for them. Either that or people from QA are monkeys on typewriters. The changes in the PTS from day 1 to right now tells me that the QA testing did not exist.

Thats not how QA or programing works. Having something change doenst mean it wasnt known about weeks prior. PTS is not live. Fixing this was not priority for them since the gold made doenst mater on PTS. Limited resources means more important things get bumped above others.

QA would be 'Does it work the way it's supposed to.'

Only the best QA people go above and say, 'It does work the way it's supposed to -- but is this a good idea for the game?'

And then a fraction of those are listened to.

I have a friend in QA for Gears 5, all he does is play matches all day to stress test stuff like how laggy something gets when he looks a certain direction or if an emote works properly. He doesn't care about the balance of the game, he doesn't send them his opinions on stuff, he does what he's told.

Funny enough, now that covid has placed people at home, they have like 2-4 hours of off time just because a stupid patch for xbox that the testers needed wasn't downloaded over night so everyone in their group has to wait on them. Tons of stuff they can't control because they work from home.

So I mean.. I have very little faith in QA testing, at least in the way you think it should be, because it's not the way you describe, especially during this time.

Does it work? No = report a bug. Das it.

The test server is so players can help test patches, fixes, and new content. When playing on PTS, players are suppose to be testing for bugs and issues with the new patch. In house alpha tests to work out obvious bugs, PTS is to find bugs and issues that are missed by the alpha team usually because they require more specific conditions to replicate and the alpha team isn't big enough to replicate all conditions for all changes. Even PTS doesn't catch all the bugs as the test population isn't big enough and it doesn't run for long enough.

Gamers are really good at finding bugs/exploits because they are always trying to get the most advantage out of the tools given to them. So they come up with creative circumstances in which bugs and exploits can appear.

You shouldn't be expecting PTS to be free of bugs and exploits. Hell, it's probably the opposite.

They might even roll out features that they know are buggy (like the multi-player mounts), in order to see if having it in actual servers changes it somehow. An internal server might not show bugs that could exist in the PTS or Live servers.

If that's how QA is supposed to work, then there would never be any bugs or exploits, ever, anywhere.

There are some things that just can't be found until something is "out in the wild."

Even a PTS won't catch everything - even things that, in hindsight, seem rather obvious, because a smaller group of people testing things won't think of or try to find ways to do things as effectively as a large group of people.
