Dear community,

I truly joined ESO in the UK where ping was good but it started in Australia where it was really bad ping and so it took me until late this year to get involved.
I loved the levelling experience, the voice acting, the graphics, the dungeons, classes, mix of classses, being able to truly forge your own hero but what killed it for me was my own community :(

I reached a point where I hit 180CP and I believe i went even higher than that, I think I got to about 230-240 CP or even more I dont recall. I had to leave because everyone guild/community i joined in-game would not help me get better.

I detest the idea of blaming others for not making me stick but no one in any of the guilds I joined would help me. I joined random groups to try get better gear but no one wanted to help me, and that sucked because I was trying to learn the game. No one would explain the best paths to take, or guide me on professions and no one told me about getting gear sets, of which there are so many that my mind just went ka-boom.
The game is a masterpiece, but for newer players it's a jungle and most of thos guilds have no time for us trying to learn. SURE I could youtube some guides but if the people I am engaging with will not help me because I'm lower than them then what the heck do I do?

I downloaded addons to assist with skyshards/lorebooks, I looked up dungeons to learn the bosses, professions and class guides but no one in my guilds wanted to help. I didn't understand auctioning and asked if someone could help me understand but no one would reply they'd leave me just googling trying to make sense of it.

I feel a bit sad. The game is beautiful but people won't help new players. That ONE TAMRIEL thing did more harm than good because I got so lost and confused on what I should do! I bought the game and Morrowwind then I got the kinda hang of it and wanted to do that scrying thing so got Greyfall i think it is, but the questing order, the constant NPC spam in cities " DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I HAVE WAITED FOR YOU" etc - overwhelming but no one helped.

And so I left. I had no idea what was going on, even though I LOVED the quests and voice acting, I had no idea what on earth I was doing. And progression in terms of character power, yeah I couldn't get an answer from anyone in-game on how auction houses worked so no one would tell me what I should be doing long-term/grinding.

Guild Finder could have helped you find a guild specifically geared for helping newish players, or players wanting carried through most content like you. You have options still, but it sounds like you made up your mind. Too bad you didn't explore all your options.

I am really sorry that you experienced this and I can say that this game can be really overwhelming for new players, I know cause I bought a second account and was kind of blown away by how much I took for granted as a vet player.

It sounds like you made up your mind but if you are willing to give it another go these guys here had good ideas. There are definitely guilds that like to help new players. Guild Finder is a good tool, could also cruise the forums here... down the bottom of the main forum page you will see guild recruitment, also not a bad place either.

Hope you find a good guild to help you... good luck.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

If you like the voice acting and such, why not just follow the main storyline and finish it (assuming you haven't already)? Or pick any alliance, and go do the story quests for that zone. I got all the way to Champion 500 and something, just happily questing away. 🤗 You don't need any special gear, nor do you need any other players to help you go through quests.

If you don't care to quest, there really are some great guilds with helpful players, ready and willing to help an eager newbie. I assume you are on PC? If so, there's definitely a huge community of players to connect with.

I'm on Xbox, and we have a pretty nice community of players too. 👌 Anyway, best of luck to you and don't give up!

I find it somewhat extraordinary you joined multiple guilds and groups and never once found anyone you could make friends with and learn the game with, if such was your goal. The blame doesn't fall on others for you not learning.

It's actually very very common that players feel extremely isolated in this game. Most people really don't have the time to respond or anyhow interact at all, unless you're sitting on discord 24/7, only then somebody might notice.

I've played this game since after launch and I'm facing the exact same problem as OP lately. I have basically nobody to talk to or play with anymore. All my old friends are gone because of the garbage state of the game, and the others seem to show 0 will to become my new friends, guilds are basically silent whenever I speak or even say hello.

Knowing this I can't even imagine what it must be like for a new player 😭 the most social interaction I've had in-game in the past 3 months are toxic hate tells in PvP because I use a meta breaking build.... Kind of makes me want to go back to NA even though I physically live in Europe now.

    HOW ONE TAMRIEL HURT GUILDS

1 BEFORE ) players was open about things ( gear , cp, ect , ect ) that mattered but not wanting other alliance to know so that your alliance was on top of leader boards as they was shared , NOW ) players seem to keep things to themselves more so that not EVERYONE in the games like them
    2) BEFORE) there was less players all wanting good for their alliance meaning less toxic acts going on ie down talking others over being helpful ,NOW) theres an big pop thats mixed with all alliances where pvp actions become toxic outside of pvp ie trader flipping , chat being full of toxic chat about this pvp guild being better then that one or ect, ect. the chance in pop is the big factor tho as with old system new players would be WELCOMED in an small pop but with big pop new players are just holding vet players back so there no NEED for them but time itself is another factor here as VET players dont enjoy NEW players that hold them down but having smaller pop that was LOCKED would give every player value , not seen as holding them back

I thought all One Tamriel did was make all the zones act like the DLC and Cyrodil zones and scale players upward to 160 CP. How would that effect the Cyrodil population or cause players to be more secretive about their builds and indifferent to newer players? I don't understand.

    :(

If it's just tips on how to improve your character you could always just ask for advice here on the forums. I'm sure you'd get a long line of people willing to help.

Why do you feel One Tamriel did more harm than good?

Before 1T you couldn't even do pve content with people from other alliances, so your alliance mattered more, not less... Even pvp bonuses (scrolls, keeps and such) worked in pve so "buff campaigns" were a thing. Cyrodiil performance used to be better, yes, but it had nothing to do with 1T.
Nostalgia is a powerful force, but I'm not sure how empty Gold/Silver areas, not getting any loot/exp from mobs when you outleveled them (or not dealing any damage to mobs of higher lvl), not being able to play with your friends from different alliances and the lack of other QoL things that people take for granted are a good thing.

I think you need to ask yourself why you are playing the game and what do you want to get out of it - nothing winds me up more than seeing people in a mad rush to reach some mythical endgame nirvana that doesn't actually exist.

the small ingame chatbox is not really great to write comprehensive instructions.

    I learned most by

1.) googling, there are wikis full of insightful instructions (structured approach)

2.) following eso facebook groups, where I snap up an info now and then more randomly (unstructured approach)

I also observed that it depends on the server where you play

XBOX EU and NA show a different behaviour in communication.

On EU, after a worldboss was defeated, people often say thanks, good job, or use a celebration emote. On NA, everbody just leaves. So on EU I have much more the feeling that people actually enjoy to play together.

Nevertheless I never used guildchat on EU either to learn, but preferred the 2 methods described above.

I started 2 and a half years a go and I have to say my experience is the polar opposite of yours, though admittedly I learned mostly from watching videos and reading guides etc...

If you fancy giving it another go add me pc EU @relentless_turnip

I am not playing a lot at the moment because I have a family, it's Christmas and the game doesn't work very well in the content I enjoy. I will definitely help you when I am online though... These days my guilds are all PvP so I can't offer you much of a community in regards to learning the basic mechanics etc... As others have said there are plenty of guilds who would love to help.

It's probably because I have played since 2015, but I learned through just playing the game and then whenever I saw/experienced something I didn't understand, I would get excited about the feature and explore every aspect of it. Like thieving and killing (through each respectable DLC) was such a joy to experience, the bashing from guards, the fencing of items, it was all very cool and baffled me at the time.
I can, however, see how the game has changed over the years, some things seem to have gotten easier, other things strangely more difficult, and other aspect of the game appear to be the same, no matter how *** or good I find those aspects.

    Sorry, I'm ranting now.
My point is, there are some good people out there in the game, and the comments already made above are probably what you need(well, most of them are helpful). I understand that you are saying that you had to leave, but since you made this post, I want to believe there is a small part of you still reaching out for a last good reason to play the game, why else make a post like this?
I personally did best and play my best when chatting/playing with friends, so I dunno, maybe that's what you need?? A buddy to teach you/learn alongside you???
If that's hard to gain tho, I dunno, hit me up, I'll be more than happy to help!

I played this game solo for over a year and a half. No PUGS, no friends and no guilds, not even for trading. I did my first normal dungeon at +CP 600ish which is when I joined my first guild.

I spent that time wandering around Tamriel doing all the overland content I could, and studying the forums and build guides daily so I could LEARN - sucking up all the theory I could, because I knew I wanted to play competitively someday.

When I finally did join a guild, I was already self-sufficient in terms of knowledge. All I needed was to polish up the knowledge I had and start grouping up with people to do the dungeons, learn the mechanics, and farm the gear.

Now I'm CP 1100 and getting to where I want to be.....

You can find all the knowledge you need in these forums, on dedicated ESO websites, and in build guides and videos of some of the excellent theorycrafters who share their knowledge of the game. All the information is there, from ESO basics to the most advanced resources for endgame.

So..... I understand your frustration, but in leaving a game you wanted to play, you copped out. You didn't want it enough to put in the effort to learn, just sayin'....

Don't be sad, it's a waste of time. Either invest yourself in the game if you really wanna play it, or don't and move on.

Even if you join guilds, you still have to do a lot of searching/reading/practising on your own, if you wish to understand the game and be competent. I've played for a long time and still frequently find explanations for things I didn't know, because it's a massive and complicated game. If you enjoy it, I'd suggest to join guilds specifically catered to new players that state they help with crafting, builds, dungeons, etc. If the guild turns out not to be true to its word, then join a new one, and hopefully, you will find one that does.

I'm sad too, every time I try and get enfilade plunging fire from a defilade position, enemy fire goes through my cover like it's not there.

I can't speak for everyone else but in my own experience I remember being pleasantly surprised by the ESO community.
I have never played many MMOs and ESO is probably the only one I've really put time into.
    From what I've seen:
As soon as anyone asks a question (be it "where is the bank?" "how do I craft this?" "where do I go for this?" "how do I get this?" etc) you can have 5-6 people in the chat all at once give the answer.
Any question I've seen asked generally gets a quick, good answer. This will depend on peak times and amount of people in zone obviously. So I've seen greater amount of people answering in new zones that everyone is flocking to cause they're still "fresh"

Guild finder is probably the best thing to find guilds tailored to helping out players.
I find it very strange that you tried multiple guilds and found absolutely nothing. There's always at least a few people in any group I've been a part of willing to help others with anything.
But the best way of learning the game is experiencing it yourself :) sure you can ask anything you like but you learn best from experience usually

As an aside, what is the point of this post? It just oozes "pity me", & I find it's tone almost comical. This post seems as if you want others to do everything for you. Decide what you want to experience from the game, i.e.- Story, Trials, exploration etc.. then go after it. I've played since beta & have joined & parted ways with just a couple of guilds. There are so many to choose from. You have to put in the work.

    Greetings,

After review of the thread, we felt it best to close it for down. As stated in our community rules:
We understand that sometimes people will leave the ESO community, and want to post a “goodbye” or “quitting” thread. Generally, we have found that “goodbye” and “quitting” threads have a tendency to go downhill fast. It is our policy to read the feedback in “goodbye” and “quitting” threads and close them, regardless of whether they are constructive or not.

    Thank you for your understanding
