Vet Vateshran Hollows: Cannot Gain Lava Immunity (disregard)

I got through to the platform with the Brimstone Guardian enemy. Killed him, broke the lava rock and died because it didn't grant me lava immunity. Upon respawning, I broke the lava stone presented to me and... proceeded to die to lava again. I am unable to gain immunity now from the stones. The following is a clip of the stone granting no immunity, even after death.
Edit: Apparently there's a minimum range on the orb ability. I'll leave my initial report tho in case someone else is dumb like me and goes searching for the answer.
