Don't know if it will work, but when Xbox has been really stupid, I've had decent luck by pulling the power cord out for a few minutes. Seems to work even when doing a restart through the menu fails.
I can't tell if you deleted the local save file. If you do, it will sync from the server so you don't lose anything.

Yeah, like he said, only other thing to try is delete local game saves/files.
