World of Warcraft gradually developed into a collection game over time. There is the mount collection tab, toy collection tab, pet collection tab and heirloom collection tab. There is also transmogrification pieces to collect. There are also achievements to collect. It is one of the reasons I quit WoW although there are many other in-game issues with it too.
I would sit in front of my PC endlessly farming ugly mounts I would never use just to increase the number of mounts I had. I would play pet battle games I personally did not enjoy doing just to collect pets missing from my collection. I would mindlessly farm older raid content on multiple characters to unlock transmogrification sets and more mounts. The list was endless. And almost every patch added more stuff to collect. I was on a hamster wheel - addicted to an animated slot machine. Even when RNGesus resulted in my favor, there was only a feeling of relief I felt momentarily before proceeding on to collect another target. It became overwhelming and I allowed it to happen having an addictive personality.
I finally completed all the achievements to the witches festival yesterday and I almost feel a little burned out from it which has me thinking. Although the new collections tab is a very welcome addition, I worry that ESO is turning into a collection game too.
