Necromancer's Healing Skills

First necromancer's burst heal skill "render flesh". Why does this skill apply minor defile to its user? I mean it's not a very powerful skill to compensate that. What's the point? Its morphs are not strong too.

Life Amid Death. AoE heal. This is not strong too. Cleanse morph is ok/good but healing capacity of this skill is not enough imo.

What do you think?

Coming from BG perspective.... I'm playing mag necro for some time now and I have to say that it was fine before the patch, first heal was strong and the others not so much of course, but it was totally able to keep you alive, same with healing tether, I used it frequently to keep myself alive, tanky mag necro was tanky, now it's all gone to ****.

I think they did a very hasty job on this patch, I don't know what their focus was on, but this is a total mess.

Very much agree that the Minor Defile on this skill is super random and unnecessary.

The good news is that Minor Defile is being cut to 8%.

It synergizes with that skill that gives you Magicka back for purging something

It does, but that's expensive on GCDs if you want to heal more than once.

But the heal isn't big enough to compensate for the health cost of purge :/

They also have the curative curse passive, increasing healing done by 8% with a negative effect active. Currently not enough to make up for the minor defile on self heals, but useful on a necro healer I suppose. And with minor defile becoming 8% in the upcoming patch it should basically cancel it out, more or less, IDK how the calculations for healing in and healing out modifiers are done.

This is sort of the necro schtick, just like corps mechanics, use one ability to boost another. It's like layering abilities.

Like what Wandering_Immigrant said, its about procing the increased healing done passive. Sometimes I cast the skill mostly to defile myself and raise the power of all my other skills during high damage phases when I know my own self healing won't be an issue. It is part of the necromancer, and an introduction into how they work differently.

Renewing Undeath is the necro version of Extended Ritual, its a fairly cheap, but class toolkit purge with a decent heal.
Enduring Undeath can just run forever if you have decent dps and a tank stacking on it.

Necromancer is a very powerful healer that grows in healing output the more your group kills and gives you corpses, and the more stuck into the action you are. Unlike other healers who can just fall back to safety and watch the fight go by, necro actually has to get into the thick of it and be much more positionally aware. You have skills that allow you to get close up and stack with melee, or fall to range, like Braided Tether. Essentially, you are creating interactions between skills to provide the best output.

Healing has so many powerful skills on the resto line that adding anything more is just a stupid amount of over-heal, the necro healing kit has fair amount of flavour that allows you to do more to buff and debuff. If you're struggling to heal, try using the ritual stone and looking toward building your necro as a group battery with decent supplementary backbar dps. That's where the class excels.

There are two ways to look at it: mechanically and conceptually. Conceptually, it makes perfect sense: my Necromancer is essentially harming himself to heal others. It's in keeping with the whole "use the energies of the dead to get things done" vibe.

    Mechanically... you're spot on.
