What Houseguests and pathing needs to be really awesome

I was playing around on the PTS earlier. There's a lot to love about what's coming in Markarth. I am especially pleased to see the "pathing" concept get a bit of an upgrade with Houseguests (essentially, your own NPCs).

What I'd really love to see, though, is the ability to add emotes for these Houseguests, either at their assigned node, or in between nodes, or even both! For example, I bought the Solitude Guard and set up a patrol for him, looking out over cliffs and stopping at braziers. I would love to have him /spit over the cliff, or maybe be /bored at some point on his patrol, or play /ragnarthered while he's by the brazier to cheer himself up.

It would add so much more life, because otherwise the NPCs are a bit unpredictable in the way they move, stand, etc. Hopefully emotes for Houseguests are a "coming soon" feature

(And can my banker access my guild bank, and my merchant repair my armour, please & thank you).

What would be better is if these Housequests went into the same category as the Mists of Hags Fen.

Would definitely love emotes and the ability to link "npcs" together, for example a group of guards walking together or an npc and a pet walking side by side.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

I'd also love to see our alts as houseguests. That way it's easier to show off our other characters without suffering through countless long loading screens.
Shortly after the formation of the Ebonheart Pact, a Nord woman was given a tour of the Tribunal Temple. When later asked about the experience, she seemed upset. Suffice to say, the Dunmer were not pleased to hear this, and thus they inquired further.
"Well," the Nord frowned, "the priests were very angry and unwelcoming. They kept shouting things at me like "you can't drink that mead in here!" and "somebody stop her, she's running naked!" and "we can't catch her; she's covered in grease!""

All these ideas make me happy they started out small, and are adding to it over time. You could get serious scope creep with this functionality, as the possibilities seem endless with customization.

and this is the reason Tythis Andromo is standing in a gibbet cage in my home. He was involved in the slave trade (in my RP story below)...

I suppose you are unaware of how things are done on Nirn regarding that matter, since you really think a character race is indeed the reason to treat a character one way or the other. What's so special in being a Redguard in the situation you described, Kalik? Is it that scarier than being, say, a Breton, a Nord in the same situation ;)?..

What would be better is if these Housequests went into the same category as the Mists of Hags Fen.

I'd personally love to see houseguests get their own catagory within the housing panel, completely separate from pets/mounts and anything else, so that we can maximize how many cool furnishings and things we can do. Since they're really an entierly different thing from a pet, it would be amazing if they'd let them have their own catagory with their own limits so we don't have to choose whether we place a mount or pet if we have a houseguest. Honestly it would make me buy more of them if I knew I could have 10 of them running around along with 10 pets/mounts to make things really lively in a large house. It would open the doors to so much more creativity. I have plans to make a Khajiit marketplace in the future and would LOVE to have a plethora of Khajiit NPCs along with all my cat and Senche mounts running around!

I'd also love to see our alts as houseguests. That way it's easier to show off our other characters without suffering through countless long loading screens.

On this note, I'd love a "houseguest character creator" which would allow us to utelize the character creator and outfit system using any motifs we own to either duplicate our own characters or to create our own custom NPC's. I'd really like to be able to make my own NPC's to walk around within the house. Characters I wouldn't want to play, but would like to see present- such as the extended family of a character. I'd simply like the ability to design my own looks for who I want in my marketplace rather than being limited strictly by whats available. Then special NPC houseguests with recorded dialouge would be a totally separate thing, as these wouldn't really have any dialouge.

Yeah! Will there be any Argonian or Khajiiti guests available? They'd be very welcome at my Tel Galen tower in Vvardenfell performing those /rake, /shovel, /kowtow emotes while not travelling to their guest house where they'd perform /sleep or /sleep2.

    Hmmm 🤔.

You think you found a contradiction there? Time to show you how I personally view Tamriel in order to let you understand there was no contradiction at all. I'll try to show the game world the devs created without any "backstories", theories and my own opinion - it's just what we all see on the screen and in the lore only. Sorry for a wall of text.

I play a Dunmer in ESO as well as in any other TES game. I completed the House Dres quest, was named the Hand of Dres by the Grandmaster Omin and thus became affiliated with that Great House. I own property in the Dres city of Kragenmoor and lands in Vvardenfell, but unlike other fellow high ranking House members I have no slaves except those who gather resources for free and send them to me by mail. Argonians live close to the borders of Morrowind in their primitive tribal societies, their life conditions and hunger sometimes urge their women to sell their children into slavery for peanuts; slaver raids into the Argonian territory are generally easy and very profitable, we even built Stormhold as our slaver trans-shipment point there - that freely we were operating there since the middle of the First Era, the earliest account known to me on the beginning of the Argonian and Khajiiti age of enslavement by the Dunmeri land owners. Generally Argonians are also very enduring and laborious workers of all, especially on our saltrice plantations. The games and the lore show they are cheap and profitable workers. If Nords, Orcs, Imperials or anyone else possessed the same qualities and were not that occasional guests like those of them who work at the Arano Plantation, they'd be as welcome as Argonians are for sure. The only restriction today, in 2E 582, is that Argonians are our Pact allies and their enslavement is illegal, so they would still be welcome but only as wage workers doing the very same job they did in the past with only two new conditions: they will not be subject to corporal punishment anymore and will be paid food or smallish sums sufficient to buy that food for their work only - knowing the quality of their life in Argonia, nobody will pay them well in Morrowind. There is simply no reason to do it. Don't think Argoniansn naturally cannot get used to comfort and civilized ways of life prefering mud and primitivism - just like Kassandra they can, if only they have something to compare their current life with. So, I'm ready to put some simple poor food into a hut constructed for those Argonian house servants. If they don't like to work on those conditions, I'll bring the Khajiiti slaves, but those former Argonian slaves still have to earn money to pay to leave by earning cash or trading those smallish parts of the product they will create and I would be so kind to share with them. Look at the former Argonian slaves in Bal Foyen - they do not leave for their homeland of Black Marsh, but still cultivate our lands, plant saltrice, herd guars just like they did in the past, and live in mud huts :). The Argonian poverty is a key to the Dunmeri wealth.

Khajiit are less welcome, because generally they are worse workers who tend to revolt, destroy the whole enterprise as they did to Sathram Plantation, perform crimes like killing fully legal property owners and escape back to Elsweyr where the life conditions are much better than in Argonia. They are dangerous, more expensive and not that good working slaves obtained through long distance sea-raids to Pellitine or through the war prisoners enslavement. On the other hand they are legal, favored by the current Dunmeri policy; unlike, say, Bretons there are not many mages among them to overcome the slave's magicka draining bracers, and still the balance of problems and profit they bring is better than the one of any other folk.

When you run a plantation or any other enterprise in Morrowind, you are objectively indifferent to your slaves' race, the color of their scales, fur or skin, their gender, height, religion, etc. - this is something you have to make different groups of your slaves hate each other for. Your objective interest is only to obtain the product they create for you, protect it by law and force, make profit of their labour and decrease expenses as much as you can, while your slaves' objective interest is to throw you off. So, to you the more different slaves you have, the better it is - feed your Khajiit a bit better and your Argonians worse, but the same time beat your Khajiit with whip for every fault your Argonians do and vice versa, kill more Argonians than Khajiit, and make them all compete for a better fate, make them blame themselves, each other, gods, Daedra - whatever, and in short time they will hate each other for their race, the color of their eyes, scales and furs, for different religions and customs they follow, for being dumb and lazy, for being favored by you, make them fight each other and judge them for that, etc. - your only objective interest is your property (plantation), your power and your profit. Everything else existing at your plantation, in Morrowind should serve this goal only.

The slaves working at Arano plantation in the vicinity of Suran - it's an Orc, a Breton and a Nord, but, as you see it, they are all absolutely equal in their misfortune. So who of them should feel better of being the race they are? Read the Testimonials of the slaves working at Arano plantation to understand why it is easier, less expensive and risky to perform slave raids and trade for Argonians and Khajiit than to use labour of those Orcs, Bretons, etc. Argonians are simply the most fitting among the other even being wage workers and Khajiit are fully legit war prisoners who will do everything for skooma they like so much. By the way, this is why the existence of the illegal syndicate of the Camonna Tong slavers and smugglers is that necessary to support our Dunmeri economy.

You might also remember the words of the Scarlet Judge regarding the reason why in his opinion the Ordinators take no action towards such an injustice - "Ordinators are bound by restrictive Temple law. It makes them slow to action. Clumsy. I have no such restrictions". Haven't you ever thought why are they that "clumsy", what laws restrict them to act, and why does the Scarlet Judge have no such bounds? No surprise the Scarlet Judge was treated by the Suran authorities the way he was. Read the Hlaalu Letter of Complaint, a letter by House Hlaalu Deputy Trade Viceroy regarding the poor treatment of merchants and businessmen by the example of the fate of a Breton businessman Theodric Ashcroft at the hands of the Ordinators and the Redoran guard. Look at how fast and ruthless the guards were acting there. How do you think why? Was it less scary to be that Breton than a Redguard in that situation? This was the question I asked @Kalik_Gold when he wrote of the feelings being a Redguard while pulled over by guards - it's no better than to be a Breton in the same situation. I suppose I don't have to explain why a businessman Ashcroft was treated like that by the Dunmeri feudal authorities. This is Morrowind, an absolutist feudal state with a land owning nobility ruling it, being it's dominant social class and protecting their interests. Merchants and businessmen are a lower social class there. Why should they treat anyone the way based on such things like race :)? It's foolish. They oppress everyone under their authority who threatens their power and property with the Dunmer oppressed no less, though not that severely in order to.. protect their power and property :).

Almost the same thing works in the other provinces of Tamriel too: Altmer propagate their superiority and begin wars, Nords are depicted as dumb drunkards, Dunmeri women as ***, Bretons and Orcs as aggressive mongrels and barbarians, all those words like "n'wah", "nebarra", "milk-drinkers" used towards other nations etc., etc., but whatever dynasty rules, be it Ayleids, Nedes, Akaviri or Reachmen, Septims or Cyrodiils - such people as the Tharns are always fine :). They never die on the battlefields for nothing, they never die out of such things like the current Second Era Knahaten Flu (well, except the extinction of that single Gardner dynasty that made Emeric rise to power ;)), the deadliest thing Tamriel ever known - the Thrassian Plague that eradicated cultures and decimated populations until Archmage Syrabane used his ring to save the rest of the population (huh, what caused him to wait that long watching all those people die instead of using that ring from the very beginning? A desire to become a god?..), such people are never seen in the streets of the cities as beggars, criminals, thugs, active members of the Camonna Tong, etc. You might think Nirn should be renamed to Hell because of such unending horrors, but imagine TES universe without all that Evil - nobody would have been playing it for 26 years! The devs created a genious universe. Brilliant work. Well, this is how things are done in Tamriel. Being a part of it, I'd be glad the devs allowed us to hire an Argonian servant or buy a Khajiiti slave because lore-wise they are simply the best economically - this is my objective interest since I am the one who I am in the world of TES. So what was your "Hmmm" about, @NotaDaedraWorshipper :)? Or, perhaps, you percieve Tamriel differently like a place where people fight and oppress one another just because "it is their nature the devs created for them", because they "naturally" dislike some certain features of each other?

I would love emotes, but I think I would prefer A) having our own characters as guests, and/or B) being able to equip costumes onto the house guests.

(Also... just placing costumes on mannequins would be nice...)
    PS4 - EU

Please put the Eyevea/EarthForge wayshrines back on the map?

    everything you wrote....
    + awesome

    "Slave Testimony from Arano Plantation
Testimony of Biene Diel, Breton laborer
Claims she was falsely arrested for murdering a beggar soon after arriving in Suran. Insists she murdered no one. Also claims the guards at Arano plantation beat a Redguard slave to death when he grew too weak to work."

Reminded me to pay that plantation another visit....

I also think there will be different levels of "houseguests". Will the devs be so bold to include indentured servants and slaves. Doubt it.
