Cooldown on skills in Cyrodiil???

Hello

Why is there suddenly a cooldown on skills (mainly weapon skills) when you are in Cyrodiil?

    Thanks a lot for sharing the link above @Sephyr . I had not seen that thread. It will take me some time to read through all the replies, though.

    Unless AOE is being used differently than I am used to, I think of them more for PvE builds than PvP.

    Skills like Endless Hail, Lightning Splash, Caltrops - skills that apply damage over time to a particular area are more suited for PvE because you have a tank to keep the boss in one spot. They are usually skills where you see a circle on the ground before you cast them, right?

    I am relatively new to PvP compared to the time I have spent playing this game so I admit I am not an expert. I can’t say I have seen many players using those skills in PvP.

    Are there other skills that are AOE that I am not aware of that are commonly used for PvP? I thought it was all about burst damage so I don’t really see why AOEs would be a problem there.

    Well Zos classifies any skill that has a "radius" check an aoe.
    So even a single target heal, that has to select the lowest health target in an area around you gets a cooldown in this test.
    Or Templars rune focus, since the server has to check if the casting Templar stands inside the rune or not.
    A lot of skills they put on cooldown don't make much sense since you don't get anything from spamming them already like armor buffs.

    Templar’s main spammable (jabs/sweeps) is also AoE. When your main melee damage skill is on a 3-second cooldown, the class itself is hamstrung.

    Here’s hoping that if any of these longer cooldowns are implemented permanently, the devs will be discerning in their judgments about what skills are subject to them.

    Is this really where the problem lies?

    The game got significantly worse only in the last year or two. I can’t see that playstyles have changed much in that small amount of time.

    Personally, I believe that necromancers have brought a huge burden to the game that is causing a lot of these issues. They’ve been around for about that long.

    I play on PS4 NA. I agree that the issues started around the Necromancer class release. I also do not think the issues in Cyrodiil are related to AoE. I’ve been in Cyrodiil, solo, away from any keep, away from other players, no group, away from resource’s and still was getting 5 load screens in 10 seconds.

    In the PvE zones my characters freeze for a half second or so when spinning the camera view, riding mount, changing direct of running and after talking to npc’s. So to me, the issue isn’t just related to PvP. It’s all zones. Not to mention assets not loading in quickly and getting load screens on PvE zones. For instance today, traveled to Glenumbra, mounted at wayshrine, started heading out the main gate and boom, random load screen, which btw, took longer than usual.

    It seems like the mount and character movement speed is faster than the game can render the assets. Maybe that is what’s causing issues. Idk, just feel like the bugs are giving them a reason to change things to make it seem like they are fixing stuff.
