Why not make Siegmaster Coffers Purple when they contain a Merit, so we know when we can turn in?

Because the first coffee you open a day has a merit, and the second would not.

So when you first look at the inventory that day, all of the coffers would be purple, then after you opened one and got the merit from it, they would all turn blue.

So just stick to a plan - open one when you log in that day and then keep your hands off the rest.

I opened one this morning and did not get one. However I opened one 1 hour ago and recieved a Merit. So its still on the 20 hour countdown it seems.

I shouldn't have to write down the time I turned in my quest each day to see if I should turn in a quest or not.

You don’t have to write down when you turn in the quest.

The contents of the coffer are decided when you first open it.

So, again, if you do the 6 district quests you will receive 12 coffers (double drops during the event). Open ONE at your normal login time and do not touch the others at all.

It’s day 4 of the event. I got 12 coffers each day for a total of 48, opened one each day and have 44 sitting untouched in my inventory.

By the end of the event I should have enough coffers stockpiled that I will be able to get enough merits for all of the costumes, just by opening ONE coffer for the merit each day and keeping my grubby fingers completely off of the others until the cool down rolls by.

So you want everything to just reset at a certain time? Like the daily login reset or the pledge/writ reset in the middle of the night?

I just want to the coffers to be purple when they contain a merit. They already do this with random dungeons and extra rewards.

I get that they are determined when they are opened, not when they are received. This seems fine for stockpiling coffers, but for those of us with limited inventory I'd rather be able to know when I can open one.

The Cyrodiil Conquest quest rewards and the Rewards for the Worthy are also on the 20 hr timer. (And the premium daily random dungeon, IIRC?)

I can only assume its ZOS trying to make sure some rewards are actually acquired on a "daily" basis, as opposed to being able to get two in a play session if you happen to play through the pledge/writ reset. With the merits, it just drags out the grind.

No... it would mean if you have 10 coffers in your inventory then they ALL contain one, until you open a coffer (Any coffer from the pile, first in the list or last or one from the middle) and start the cool down. Then when you take the Merit from that first coffer and your inventory screen return to showing the remaining 9 boxes... the cool down means NONE of them will have a Merit.

Sheesh. There’s a Merit only in the first coffer you open each day. You could open the first in the list, second in the list, last in the list. As long as the cool down is over then whichever one you pick eenie meenie meiney moe, that coffer will produce a merit for you.

This purple/blue desire is impractical and will confuse many people who see a bunch of purple coffers turn blue after they open one. Just learn how it works and stop asking for a change that will cause trouble.

Its only impractical to do what you're suggesting. I'm suggesting they treat coffers as any other reward and have the contents determined when the coffer is recieved, not when it is opened.

Its really not hard to imagine it, nor is it hard to imagine that your 50 coffers in your inventory would become useless.

You'd actually be shorting people out of merits by doing this. During IC event, turning in one quest nets 2 coffers. The current way means I get 2 merits, so long as I open them on cooldown. Changing it to be received means I would get one purple coffer and one blue coffee, so only one merit. Your way makes it less player friendly.

You may not mean it that way (or maybe you do, I don't know) but your last statement sounds purely like petty spite because some people have managed their coffers better than you have done with yours.

Well, that’s different than your initial question, which was answered. Now you want the mechanism changed.

    I oppose your proposed change.

Being able to stockpile the coffers is the only reason I’m doing the district quests during the event rather than a nWGT run for event tickets. I know of a few others who *might* do some of the district quests only because of being able to stockpile coffers.

Your change will reduce the incentive to go to pvp during the event. So... maybe I should cheer you on so that pvp might finally get so barren it is junked and overhauled from the foundation up.

We have not been able to bank coffers since the first month of the game.

Also, the cooldown on the merits is per account, so banking them wouldn't do anything, even if it were possible.

That's pretty much what I'm doing. Though sometimes I open a coffer too soon. But I am opening only one a day and will open the others gradually after the event is over.

I usually do the same with my RotW, unless my mailbox is full, for the guaranteed crystal geode.

I'm not proposing the change out of spite... Just one that makes more logical sense. have 20+ quests ready to turn in, and I can complete any needed for more. But there should be a way to determine the right time to open these other than writing down each day when we last opened them.

Its lazy on the part of the devs.

Does WPamA actually have a countdown for RoTW, gladiator proofs, and siege merits? If so, I've never seen that setting. I've only seen the countdown for the random dungeon/battleground to let you know if you'll get purple or blue rewards.

The irony here lol. I am not going to disagree that there was a better way they could have handled it, ie added a cooldown to your character sheet or something else, but its kinda hard to take the statement that they were being lazy seriously when the solution is literally writing a time on a sticky pad. I mean, you dont even really need to write it down. I know that my cooldown is up in 20 minutes, because I opened my coffer at 6:30 eastern yesterday. The day before that I opened it at 9:15, the day before that was around midnight. I can go back further 2 more days just from memory, and before that I hadn't opened one in weeks. But I've always done it from memory, its not perfect, occasionally I made a mistake and opened too early, but the coffers are fortunately easy to get.

But yeah, I don't like your idea. Determining what is in the coffer at the time of receiving it means I'd have 5 coffers sitting in my inventory right now that I wouldn't be getting proofs out of. If that idea were to take hold, it would mean by extension a lot of the gladiator satchels and rewards for the worthys I will be opening in the future also would not contain the items that I wait for the cooldown to expire so I can get them.

If it helps, just pick a time to do them at, and do it at that time every day. You won't need to write anything down that way.

You're right, it doesn't. I looked through all addons that have timers of any kind and that doesn't seem to be covered by any of them. I wonder if it's not in the API? That would surprise me, though.

I don't write down the time, I use the Shadowy Supplier for a 20 hour reference. Every day, before I go to pickup an item from the other 20 hour NPCs, I will visit the Shadowy Supplier first. If I can pick up from the Shadowy Supplier, I know that the other 20-hour NPCs are ready. Horse feeding is another timer if your character needs that.

That would be a good way to track the timers in game. Or maybe add an icon to the containers when they are "ready" to give you a merit again. That would work for the Rewards for the Worthy containers and their geodes too.
