Because the first coffee you open a day has a merit, and the second would not.
So when you first look at the inventory that day, all of the coffers would be purple, then after you opened one and got the merit from it, they would all turn blue.
So just stick to a plan - open one when you log in that day and then keep your hands off the rest.

I opened one this morning and did not get one. However I opened one 1 hour ago and recieved a Merit. So its still on the 20 hour countdown it seems.
I shouldn't have to write down the time I turned in my quest each day to see if I should turn in a quest or not.

So you want everything to just reset at a certain time? Like the daily login reset or the pledge/writ reset in the middle of the night?

I just want to the coffers to be purple when they contain a merit. They already do this with random dungeons and extra rewards.

But as Cryptical pointed out, that would mean making ALL the containers purple, until you open one of them, and then they would turn blue. And then 20 hours later they all turn purple again.

Actually it would mean no more banking coffers, which I would assume you probably don't want.

No... it would mean if you have 10 coffers in your inventory then they ALL contain one, until you open a coffer (Any coffer from the pile, first in the list or last or one from the middle) and start the cool down. Then when you take the Merit from that first coffer and your inventory screen return to showing the remaining 9 boxes... the cool down means NONE of them will have a Merit.
Sheesh. There’s a Merit only in the first coffer you open each day. You could open the first in the list, second in the list, last in the list. As long as the cool down is over then whichever one you pick eenie meenie meiney moe, that coffer will produce a merit for you.
This purple/blue desire is impractical and will confuse many people who see a bunch of purple coffers turn blue after they open one. Just learn how it works and stop asking for a change that will cause trouble.

Its only impractical to do what you're suggesting. I'm suggesting they treat coffers as any other reward and have the contents determined when the coffer is recieved, not when it is opened.
Its really not hard to imagine it, nor is it hard to imagine that your 50 coffers in your inventory would become useless.

Well, that’s different than your initial question, which was answered. Now you want the mechanism changed.
I oppose your proposed change.
Being able to stockpile the coffers is the only reason I’m doing the district quests during the event rather than a nWGT run for event tickets. I know of a few others who *might* do some of the district quests only because of being able to stockpile coffers.
Your change will reduce the incentive to go to pvp during the event. So... maybe I should cheer you on so that pvp might finally get so barren it is junked and overhauled from the foundation up.
You are on console, right?
They should add a menu where you can see your cooldowns, like mount feeding, random dungeon, coffers, etc. That way you would know.
On PC, there is at least one addon that can keep track of that if you want. WPamA (What Pledges are my Alts)

PizzaCat82 wrote: »I'm not proposing the change out of spite... Just one that makes more logical sense. have 20+ quests ready to turn in, and I can complete any needed for more. But there should be a way to determine the right time to open these other than writing down each day when we last opened them.
Its lazy on the part of the devs.

Does WPamA actually have a countdown for RoTW, gladiator proofs, and siege merits? If so, I've never seen that setting. I've only seen the countdown for the random dungeon/battleground to let you know if you'll get purple or blue rewards.
