Can't Decide :-/

So, I haven't played since the launch of the original game... It was a bit lackluster and disappointing for me, and I moved on...

But I recently came back and I've been enjoying it. Perhaps the lack of a meaningful TES title in awhile made me appreciate what was available, I don't know....

ANYWAYS, I can't decide on what race/class to settle down on. I really enjoy my Nightblade Khajiit, Argonian Sorcerer, and Orc Dragon Knight.... But I can't choose between the three.

How did you choose your main/what to play? Is there any definitive best option in terms of mechanics?

Play what class fits your play style best. It's so hard to recommend something like that because everyone is different. I am not into pre-made builds, but Alcast has a great site with tons of info on all classes. Might help a bit in your decision. Welcome back to Tamriel btw :)

Thanks! Honestly, I care more about the races than the classes XD It makes it so hard! I'm like.... "THEY'RE ALL SO HANDSOME AND PERFECT, HOW DO I CHOOSE?!"

My friend got me into ESO, he wanted to make a group of ganking StamBlades, so my first character was a Orc Stamina Nightblade.

However after 2 days of playing I saw this beautiful creature standing in the Rift, dueling, but standing there not moving while the enemy was attacking him. This was my first real look at an Argonian Templar Healer.

Right after that I logged out, made an Argonian Templar Healer, and for the next 4 years thats what I did. PvE, and PvP healed.

About a year or so ago I decided to branch out and play other support characters, now I am the proud owner of 8 Different Argonian supports.

Play the one you enjoy, and if you enjoy more than one then play more than one. Those who stick to one character as a main and base it on recommendations and FOTM builds at the time they roll the character are destined to end up at some point fed up and disillusioned with the entire game just because some skill or other got tweaked slightly later on.

what content do you want to do most? solo or group? ranged or melee? single target or aoe? pvp or pve?

hack the minotaur has a good recent video about ranking solo classes, that gives a good idea how starter friendly a class is I think

Make one of each class and try to get them to at least 20ish (unless you absolutely don't like them, then drop them as soon as the decision is made, once you have one of each, a respec is cheap so you can try both mag and stam versions) each class plays differently, and most roles play differently even within a class, try them all, sometimes things you think you'll hate will end up as your favorite. For example I started with a stam warden, I really wanted to play with bows, love pet classes, and have always played a ranged "hunter" type character in every other MMO I've ever played.... and I hated it, I was having absolutely no fun with it, so I started googling builds, saw that there was a build for a warden stam healer, so I did a respec, I loved it but was frustrated with how often I got kicked from dungeons for "not being a healer" cause bow LA spam doesn't exactly scream healer (even when no one is dying and were getting buffs) so I rolled a Magicka Templar, the antithesis to everything I've ever enjoyed playing, and yet fell in love with the play style, both as a healer and as DPS, and the option to swap back and forth easily is amazing, I've since made a few more alts in each class using different races, but I will always be a Templar main, Magplar just fits my play style and lets me play all 3 rolls without a respec.

Finding a class you love is all about experimenting and trying different gear sets and skills, something to keep in mind is guild weapon and world skills can completely change the way you play, and any class can use them so finding the skills you like is almost more important than your class, especially on stam characters.

As for races, unless you plan to one day do competitive end game trials and want to be part of the top 1% it really doesn't matter, even between stam and mag races it doesn't make that much difference. Just pick the one you like the best, or make a bunch of characters with different races and choose the class that fits for each one the best. Personally I like the races with extra resistance so I don't have to dump as much CP into it and can still go play PVP without being quite as squishy as I would otherwise.
