The colour in your journal refers to the difficulty of scrying the lead.
The colour of the item refers to its rarity.

Lead difficulty isn't always equal to item quality. Motif pages are all purple, but some have green leads

Seems counterituitive that it would be easier to find an item of gold quality than it would be an item of lesser quality.
