Ganking Etiquette in Imperial City

If they are alone and don't seem to be engaging in PvP activity I typically leave them alone. It rather annoys me, particularly during these events, when PvPers go out of their way to target anyone that is obviously not attempting to fight. I do think players should accept the risk of being targeted when in PvP but no one can really help when an event locks tickets behind PvP zones. And PvPers are not doing themselves any favors when harassing PvEers.

If you so much as step foot in a pvp zone and are of another faction, I dont care what you are doing there, you will be jumped on when the opportunity presents itself, full stop. Add In the fact that tel var is actually a useful resource... there isnt even a discussion to be had.

I used to apply respectful etiquette when dealing with open world pvp in many mmos over the years, but eventually I grew up and realized 1) it's a video game and 2) [snip]

I have no reason to hunt someone who do not want to play.

But I have plenty of reasons to attack gankers obviously hunting pve’rs.

"It's a video game after all, so lets be jerks..." pfft.

I'm pvp'ing since beta times and I never attack any pve player clearly doing pve stuff in pvp land. This game locks certain things behind pvp wall so sometimes pve'rs unwillingly must come here.
When I see a fellow pvp player in my alliance who is griefing pve'rs in towns or whereever, I specificly log in my opposite alliance char and go there and give that pathetic player his own medicine. Always but always they are very bad players with good meta gear.

And as a side note; one should never worry about that one pve player you let go earlier, will come back later to hunt you down with his group... They die very easily already, so there won't be any problem. Because in this game 10 pve'r = 1 good pvp'er powerwise.

I avoid players and stealth through dailies in general. I've been doing that since April and it works. Sometimes I get spotted and depending on the situation I either flee, fight off the attacker or die. I'm usually able to hold out for long enough to assess the enemy but some combos just melt me.

I am a PVE player and I have experienced mixed things in IC. Ive been ganked or swarmed by opposing players, but I did have a cool experience.

I am a yellow and I was trying to get the midyear horror achievement. I needed Nunatuk and was fighting him alone. Suddenly a group of blues arrived, but instead of attacking and killing me, they focused their attacks solely on the boss. We all killed the boss, I got the achievement and then they killed me, with which I was perfectly fine with. I appreciated those players not killing me outright.

It's war and there are no rules. I got ganked many times in Cyrodiil, IC and BG, not complaining but I'll put more effort on getting good.

I got killed by a ganker in the sewers fighting the closest boss to the AD base (farming lead for antiquities) when at low health.

Released back to base, snuck back to the dead boss & was able to get my loot including a lead :)

I'm 810CP but usually have no Tel Var on me so gankers must be disappointed after killing me if they're hoping for a big score! :D

Ganking etiquette? Lol what does that even mean?

Sounds like an oxymoron to me. How can there be any etiquette in ganking? Ganking is ganking lol

"Excuse me sir, im just about to gank you. Could you please stand up straight and put your hands by you side? Thank you"

Except because it's not just a regular videogame. This isn't Skyrim, Fallout or any other single-player game. This is an MMO, and wether you like it or not, you are interacting with real people. Just because everyone is hidden behind an avatar (due to the nature of the game) it doesn't mean it's fine to be a jerk with others. That is the exact same point some people use to justify cyberbulling, because "duh, it's social media, it's not real life, who cares". But the reality is, when you fight a defenseless player who don't want to engage you are ruining his experience without reason. We are not even talking about people trying to take flags, but people just doing quests and killing mobs.

And "finishing last"? What the hell are you talking about? They aren't even participating, how can they finish last? It's like if a boxer gets out the ring, punches in the face of one of the spectators and says "eh, don't mind me, but you are going to be last in this competition, so can i hit you?"

What's the point of playing pvp if you suddenly remove any trace of challenge it can have? I play PvP because i like that, fighting a good player and overcoming the challenge is priceless, and if i lose to another good player then excellent for them, that's how a PvPer improves in the first place. But what's the satisfaction of killing someone who doesn't even fight back? At this point PvErs are the scapegoat of players who only want to vent their frustrations with real PvP players. And the fact that everyone knows there is not only an event, but also mythic leads locked behind IC just makes it worse. Oh but "iT's A wAr, tHeRe ArE nO rUlEs". I find it kinda funny because the ones who say this are the same ones who later resort to any cheap tactic or cheesy build to score easy kills, and when they get rightfully killed, and in some cases, teabagged, are the ones to hatewhisper their killer. As the popular quote says: "Who lives by the sword, dies by the sword". What you give is what you'll get.

I was actually surprised just how disgusting people are in IC, I went there every day to get tickets and every time I was attacked I did not attack back but they kept killing me anyway even tho I had only 30 telvar stones anyway. I do not care if its a pvp zone but zos always make us go there for our dam event rewards. I just find it so disappointing that when another player just stands there not attacking they just keep killing you anyway. Got killed getting a skyshard as well and when my friend and I were almost done killing zone boss a AD sorc ganked us and took the kill. Very disappointing no honour at all. I think IC is a lost opportunity would have been a great PVE zone and could have had dynamic events.

I'm not a ganker but I generally don't attack below-50 players or people who have low PvP ranks.

People with high PvP ranks and CP usually know what they're doing when questing there and you need to be cautious and ready to defend yourself because they have higher chances of killing you if you're not buffed when they attack.

I'm personally of the vibe that anything goes in IC except teabagging, which is really bad manners.

VERY bad manners! It's also against the TOS because it's non-consensual, simulated sexual assault, so I report literally every player I see doing it. Doesn't matter if you're in my alliance or another--I see you dipping your stick, I report you. And I record my gameplay, so I always have a video to pass along of who's being awful.

I always gotta do their tax audit at least once. if I find they are a low income target, then I don't really bother with them a second time. If they start swarming and killing bosses though then they are back on the table. And if they are rude then they get special priority tax audit status. XD

My main rarely carries more than 78 TV on him because even out of events he's not in IC for the TV but the dailies (and nowadays, leads). He usually just outruns NPCs so he doesn't gather much stuff, and should he decide to solo or join a fight against a boss/miniboss - kill him and take his TV if you want. I don't really mind as long as I get my one siege merit/day.

While I personally find it bad etiquette to camp quest places: When enemy players camp such a spot, I usually just check the map and move to a spot held by my faction to continue my fun there. And if there's no other safe haven in that campaign, I'll just switch campaigns, or load into Cyro for a while to return later. Unless I already have my merit; in that case I'll just go back to Overland and dig up stuff.

I'm not into ganking personally, but I've seen people waiting by the ballistae and ganking low level and poorly equipped PvErs a few times during the event. I think that's in really poor form personally. There's little to no combat involved in that daily and practically no telvar associated with it so really it serves no purpose other than to prevent new players from getting their tickets.

    Yep.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any other way to allow PvE without Tel Var being hoarded by some players using the PvE bypass option for newer players who just want to experience it without fear of being killed so quickly.

Only rule if you care about etiquette is: Don't do it.

Yes, I do it myself, so I'm not a "Show me where the Nightblade touch you..." guy, but there's no way of doing this and be nice at the same time. How am I taking some 50k Tel-Var from a petsorc solofarming street bosses (good at that, but basically defenseless against players), and being nice about it?

Most of the time when I go to Cyro it's to do PVE objectives. I don't hide or stealth but I do try to avoid areas in conflict and do expect to die since I am in a PVP zone. I've been killed a few times during this event by the same guy camping the quest giver as I tried to turn my quests in. I don't fight back, die and try again. The same person did this several times in a row so I abandoned my quests and left.

There are times I go to Cyro and join in and have a ton of fun with the group fighting to advance. I die a lot but it's PVP and I'm PVE so it's to be expected.

I have soooooooo much respect for those PVP players who see that I'm questing or fishing or skysharding and leave me alone. Or the ones who just run past me in a delve. Or even the ones that kill me once and realize there is no way I am a PVPer and then leave me alone. I thank all of you who show that restraint and courtesy.

I... Kill.... Everyone... I don't care what your intentions are or what perceived etiquette you think I have to follow. Red is dead period. You don't want to get killed, don't go to IC/Cyrodiil. I am under no obligation whatsoever to leave you alone, whether PvPer or PvEer. Yes. I am that one.

The follow up to that is:

Do you attack people from behind when they are clearly engaged in PVE content?

Do you invis and run away if they turn to face you and fight back head on?

If the answer to those questions is "No", then you are the exact type of person that I *don't mind* getting "ganked" by while PVE questing. As a PVE'er, I accept that going into IC means I am opening myself up for attack.

But the ones who attack from behind, who invis and run away when you turn to fight them face to face, the ones who camp PVE objectives or zone entrances / exits, or run chase someone clear across a zone, specifically hunting PVE'ers are the ones I have a problem with.

The ones who are willing to face me head on in a fair fight, I can tip my cap to for defeating me. Even if I'm in a PVE setup and stand little to no chance of winning, at least you fought me face to face, which imo is the point of PVP - the competitive accomplishment of beating someone in a fair contest.

I don't know about "etiquette," but if you're camping quest objectives, I don't really care who you're killing, Volunteer or Grand Overlord, I have no use for you and no respect for you.

This. I generally don't attack while I'm doing a daily, becauseI just want to get it over with. What's lovely is people I Iet live because I can tell they are also questing attack me, then someone else ganks me. Or I get ganked while fighting to finish a quest, or have to try 2-3 different quests before I can finish one. I start with 0 stone, and maybe have 150 when turning in. You can get the same from a scamp.

If you are ganking people as they come out of base... you do realize that have NO telvar on them? That's literally griefing.
