Why doesn't vampire provide the bat swarm gap closer?

Hey this is my first actual post. I've commented a bit on here and I'm a relatively new player, but I have friends that have played the game for a long time.

Why doesn't the vampire skill line have a gap closer? I recently started playing greymoor with my friends and we all decided to roll as vamps to celebrate the re-vamp. It was fun at first and we were enjoying ourselves, but when we got to the point to where we were fighting a lot of vampire NPCs we noticed they have this really cool bat swarm dash attack.

I was surprised to see that we as players didn't get this ability. I chose to roll as a necromancer, my friends were a nightblade and templar respectively and when we walked into PvP for the midyear mayhem event I found myself unable to keep up with the rest of my group when jumping on someone or when someone was kiting us away.

The bat swarm movement skill looks really cool and I'm curious as to what the forums thinks about throwing it somehow into the current vamp kit? It feels really off to play a melee skill line and not have any options to stay on top of your enemy. Especially when my other friends are either teleporting or dashing to their target.

Good point, especially as the game now pushes players to go "all in" as vamp, esp if you want to run the higher stages, with non-vamp skills costing so much more to use. The vamp skill tree should give a complete toolkit, and gap closer is missing. Seems daft to create the animation for such a cool vampy gap closer but not give it to players.

Vampire had a gap closer on it last patch but for some unspecified reason they didn’t reintroduce it into the rework.
*edit* to be clear the gap closer was tied to the ultimate. But you’re right it’s doesn’t make any sense for them to make vampire melee without one.

I couldn't agree more! My friends and I were expecting the vamp to now be a full tool kit, in fact the advertisement of a rework to it is what drew me into the game and what brought them back after a good break.

It does seem really weird to have a very uniquely animated skill for normal NPC vamps, yet not include it for players? I also noticed NPC vampires don't seem to use any of the skills we as players have. Even their drain is kinda different.

I thought the point of becoming a vampire was to be more like the NPC-monsters? Which I thought was a really unique thing for eso. Being able to have a subclass that turns you into a monster.

Yeah, my friends told me the vamp ultimate used to have a gap closer! Which is why they were very confused that they removed it with the revamp, but kept basically everything else about vampire.

If you were to include the new bat swarm gap closer, where would you put it?

But I want to be a necromancer?

My friend is already playing a nightblade.

Why not just give this bat swarm ability to the players since the old skill line had a gap closer?

Why would a Necromancer want to be a Vampire? Aint they the sort who want to transform themselves into Lichs.

A lot of vampire NPCs are necromancers.

In fact it is how Death Hounds are made. There's an NPC in fort greymoor using necromancy on a dead wolf to turn it into a death hound.

And I've ran into these things called "Vampire Bone Lords"

Necromancy and vampires kind of go hand in hand with Elder Scrolls lore.

There are more gap closers in this game than just Nightblade's ambush skill. Like for example Dragonknights have the Empowered Chains and Templars have Focused Charge. Also there are even some physical weapon skill lines with gap closers built in.

Sorcs also have that lightning charge ability.

I was told the only two classes that don't really have any gap closers are wardens and necromancers.

Which giving vampire a gap closer would fix, right?
