They look almost the same. However, the skin from crates is much better.

They did the same thing with the Godslayer mount. Except the datamined content gave people enough time to point out the issue. The Sunspire Ice-Fire Senche Lion never was released and instead there was the gem exclusive Blazeborn Senche Lion. Which is visually distinct from the Sunspire Champion Senche Lion by having no ice elements.

Maybe because the markings are different we're supposed to agree that these two skins are visually distinct enough?

I don't know that this is really a problem considering 90% of people with these "achievement" skins just pay for carries to get them. Judging by the prevalence of carry spam this behavior is perfectly OK according to ZOS.

If anything is cheapening the achievements of these skins it is the very people that earned them turning around and selling them to thousands of players because apparently just like in real life, greed trumps accomplishment.

And you know this because of your psychic powers, or just because 123% of all statistics on the internet are made up on the spot?

ZOS is fine with people paying gold for carries. This is only a problem if you're charging real money, or if you're charging for an in game service and not providing.
If anything is cheapening the achievements of these skins it is the very people that earned them turning around and selling them to thousands of players because apparently just like in real life, greed trumps accomplishment.

Okay, so let's crunch these numbers for a second. An experienced team can clear vKA in roughly 30-35 minutes. For the sake of argument, let's say your "average carry team" can clear it in 20, which sounds unreasonably low. So, each one is taking thousands of players through. If we take "thousands" at the most favorable number for you and say 2k. So, each player has spent 40k minutes clearing vKA as a carry. 40k minutes works out to over 27 days. That's 27 days total. Not, "I played over 27 days."

Okay, so Greymoor dropped on May 26. So, May 26th was over 27 days ago? That doesn't sound right. Let me check. It seems that the 26th was only 23 ago. So, you're saying that everyone doing carries has been nothing but carries, with no down time, since before Greymoor dropped. (And this is before you remember I'm actually cutting the trial to about 2/3s of the time most of those teams will need, meaning it's really more like 41 days.)

Something about that statistic seems off.

Also, this brings into question that 90% line. Because if each person who cleared was turning around and doing thousands of carries, then the "real" rate would be less than .05% of players with "legitimate" skins.

Or, maybe, in spite of all the prolific cries about carries, the actual paid carries are fairly rare, as they require a seven digit up front cost, and most players don't have a couple million gold lying around to pay a team to help them clear content for skins.

Also, there's the carries that are unpaid. Are those less valid? I've helped people get through difficult content in the past, where one or two members were not really pulling their own weight. I wasn't charging, but is that now in the same range? Are we saying those skins, dyes, and achievements are invalid?

Or, it's possible, people who run in endgame prog content do actually earn skins. It's also possible this is an insult to those players. While it might be distasteful for those groups to go mercenary and offer their services to other players, that you're complaining about it only reinforces the idea that you don't have the money to buy friends, and don't have the connections to prog content on your own.

They did a similar thing when they released a crown store senche mount that looked very similar to the award one given for completing the Sunspire Dragonbreak achievement. It’s not by accident.

Yeah, it didn't make it fine then, and this is worse. The crown gem lion was visually distinct enough from the Godslayer mount that you could tell them apart, but I've never been 100% sure when I saw either of those mounts, which one it was. (Probably the gems version, which undermines the entire thing.)

    Now we have that again.

I can get annoyance with the Ebony skin looking a lot like the Cloudrest skin, but that predated the Trial by over a year. People who bought that didn't know there'd be a similar trial skin some day.

The mount, and this skin though? Ugh. This is not okay.

Sad times when achievements from doing hard raids are being sold in crown crates.
