So ZOS is now spending your subscription money on Youtube cooking shows

You would think that with all the performance problems, ZOS will spend money on better performance. Cyrodiil has been unplayable for years now and the lag is spreading to other parts of the game too. Soon we will get more players with the stadia release, so performance will even get worse. It would make the most sense if money is spent on increased work force or increased server capacity.

Instead they spend money on a Youtube cooking show to bring in more players..

The best part is, this video will not even reach a lot of people because of the language.

Maybe alot of Dutch people play ESO, so it's not strange to fund something like that.

I know loads of Dutch players.

Dare I say that the country does enjoy the game for whatever reason?

Actually oddly enough, most of my online friends in mainland Europe are Dutch.

I might be wrong, but I don't think that video has anything to do with ZOS. Looks like a normal YouTube creator video to me.

official Greymoor intro looks like a sponsored video, I don't speak the language so i didn't really watch the rest and i cannot say if he brings up the sponsorship. but honestly, given his number of subscribers (as in how big of an audience will this sponsorship get) - he probably got a few thousand and a free copy of the game at most (i'm erring on a side of more rather then less). not exactly an insane amount of marketing dollars.

    i love it
best in slot: is the armor, weapon, clothing look, pet, or no pet, jewelry, race, class, skill choices, amount of DPS, and skin color best fit to you and the way you wish to play and makes you feel good and performs what YOU think it should be.

worst in slot: what you read in zone chat, and forum comment, and forum thread, and you tube video, and live streamer advice, and class rep advice, and guild chat advice, and whisper told you to wear, and use for skill, and dress like, and use for weapon and armor.

I'm reasonably sure that the Marketing Dept has always had, and will always have, a budget. Even if the building was burning down.

(actually, I'm pretty sure all the departments of the company continue to have some sort of budget, even if there's a Major Priority for one of them to work on.)

That is what I got when I translated part of the description. I'm going to guess this has no affiliation with ZoS nor the Elder Scrolls and would not be at all surprised when the powers that be see it if it isn't shut down for using the intro.

Just to clarify something for you, once you pay ZOS for a sub, a product or anything, it's no longer your money.

As a customer you still have an interest in how the money that you gave is being spent. Grammatical possession covers a lot more than legal possession.

Even if it was an official promotion, it would be Bethesda Softworks money being spent, not ZOS'.

doubtful. at most its free advertisement, but I'm still reasonably sure its a sponsored video. the last part of the description according to google translate says
The Elder Scrolls Online is a huge online world, set for the events of Skyrim. Greymoor is the name of the new expansion, taking you back to Skyrim and the dark caves below. Greymoor is out now for PC, Xbox and PlayStation
with a link attached that takes you to "buy now" splash page. most youtubers disclose sponsorships as in "this video is sponsored by..." inside the video itself and most of them tend to start with a short intro for their sponsors, with longer sales pitch later in a video. description just has links to the sponsor.

and I'm not saying there is anything wrong with ZoS sponsoring a cooking show, and its not like they've never done something like that before, "sponsored twitch streams like Yoggcast, cough" - just saying that as habitual youtube watcher, this reads like a sponsored video to me.

It looks like he's taken recipes from the Elder Scrolls Official Cookbook and translated them into Dutch. Nothing to do with either ZOS or Bethesda. Just a fan video.

You ARE aware cooking shows are cheap right? When it comes to performance, frankly anything outside of a core code overhaul and disabling addons we won't get what most want.

I'm genuinely curious how they chose the show. not that they chose this method of marketing, but why this particular show? usually marketing is targeted, and its done so for a reason. is Netherlands a market that specifically needed targeting?

Was curious about this too. We are not a very big country and I'm pretty sure most people interested in mmo's/rpg's already know about this game and either already own it or will not buy it. It is no easy task to change a Dutch mind when they already made their decision.

Some people say this could easily be a fan video too, but he promotes the game in Dutch, telling people it's available now. Given the limited audience I was quite surprised.

You obviously have never owned a business. You spend some of your money on marketing in order to gain MORE revenue. Those ad dollars will hopefully end up netting a profit. Which you can use on making improvements to your business. Complaining that they are attempting to attract more players at a time when potential interest is absurd. Why would you expect no money to go towards marketing during a time of a new expansion?
