Unable to log in (Steam and non-Steam)

On both my Steam and non-Steam accounts, after selecting my character I get a load screen that freezes (frozen ouroboros at the bottom right) and eventually logs me out for inactivity. This has happened repeatedly within the last hour or so. I play on the NA server.

I just tried to login and got an error that said I had to reinstall.

I'm running a repair to see if that fixes it

well, that didn't work. gotta completely uninstall - reinstall

Nothing like that here-- PC NA, Steam launcher, Steam account, Windows 10. Started right up and logged in, although I think that earlier today it may have installed an update to Steam, at least I know it did on my MacBook Air after I installed the new macOS security quick-fix update that came out yesterday.

Once, on my old Windows 10 desktop, the game froze up and I ended the task on ESO, then Steam froze so I ended the task on Steam, and that caused Steam to tell me that the game needed to be reinstalled completely-- from what I read online when I went searching for help on that issue, Steam needs to close out the game's files properly or it can potentially lose the link to them, or something like that, such that it no longer recognizes that the game is installed locally. There's supposed to be a way to relink everything if you can tell Steam where the files are on your hard drive, but it didn't work for me so I had to do a full reinstall of the game-- and then, not too after that, my hard drive failed and I ended up getting a new computer. I don't know if that’s why ESO and Steam were starting to freeze up such that I was having to end the task, but it might have been.

I don't use Steam for ESO.

The good news is after using the uninstall - install from the launcher, it Still gives me the error that something is missing and I and it " may " be fixed by reinstalling. So now I get to wipe every last thing, restart and then download the game all over again.

And I can't wait for it to say 'this .dll file is missing ' again after two more hours of this garbage.

I can really see how well the tech improvements are going.

curious..... i had an issue where many of my online games that required me to log in wouldnt let me a few days ago , 2 of which were bethesda games

turned out with a windows update windows onedrive kept wanting to copy old config filees from my documents folders over to that folder as well as the onedrive folder... doing this confused the games with which config file to load as it had 3 files named the same thing in documentss as well as onedrives version of documents


could not figure out how to fix the issue after with onedrive and ultimately had to disable it and manually clean up any folder in documents that was affected...

highly doubt this is your issue as i couldnt find any1 else having it via google when i checked a few days back when it happened, but its posible which is why i commented..

My issue was MSVCP140.dll file disappeared.

Finally got things fixed ... and of course just in time for Maintenance to start.

Have you ever had one of those days ?

Same here. Game sometimes freezes on character selection window or on loading character window. I wonder if it's connected with new background my characters don't like

This is still happening. I have been able to log in today, but I've gotten the long loading screen and the inactivity kick quite a few times still.
