Is there a way to prevent this, would like to experience the dungeon from the beginning.
especially after waiting 30 or more minutes to get in.
Thanks.

Make your own group if you have any kind of specific intentions for a given run. With group finder, you get what you get.

Unfortunately not. I know how frustrating that can be. Queue for a dps for 30 minutes or longer only to finally get into a group that's on the last or next to last boss. Especially if you were wanting to farm for retain set pieces or do a pledge that required killing certain bosses. Makes your time in queue all for nothing. Would be nice if there was a work around for this but, don't see how it would be possible. Someone drops out midway through either have to find someone to jump in with you or some poor sap has to be a replacement for a partially done dungeon.

Not long ago I was queued for something and got into a partial group where others immediately dropped out of. Needless to say I dropped not long after.

If you queued for a pledge dungeon it really sucks to join a group that’s on the last boss, because then you have to queue again to finish your pledge.

But if you’re just doing a random it’s a nice thing because you only have to finish one fight to get your rewards.

But you touched on something that’s really problematic. Joining a group that’s already done. After an instance is finished and someone drops, the crown will be prompted to replace that member. If they aren’t paying enough attention it’s easy to accidentally bring someone in, the instance is over and that player has no options but to leave and face the queue penalty. It’s one of the biggest logic gaps in the group queue code.

Put yourself in their shoes. You just got to the last boss and one of your DPS gets DCed. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to get a replacement and finish rather than have to start over from the beginning with a whole new group?

Just consider it part of the price tag for the convenience of having a group finder at all. Every now and then you'll be volunteered to help one of these groups finish up their run.

I don't actually mind, although if you are doing the pledges in the older dungeons, it can be a pain. I believe the newer DLCs only require you to kill the last boss for the pledge.

When you are doing a random, it's the best thing. Come in at the last boss, save the day and get your reward in no time!

Tbh it is great, they should totally change it for all the other dungeons to be that way. Pledge requiring only last boss.

What a horrible answer. His intent is, obviously, to do the dungeon!

I agree with OP, too many times I have queued in to a dungeon where the final boss is already dead. What's the point of that?

And the worst part is that sometimes when this happens you also get a leaver penalty when you try to requeue.

Why is it that people complain about being given practical advice to achieve the result they want? I mean, even if ZOS changes things to suit you, its not going to happen instantly.

If their intent is to do a complete dungeon run, guaranteed 100%, then they should queue with their own pre-made group.

That neatly avoids either of the situations that queue you into an incomplete dungeon:
    1. One of the purposes of Groupfinder is to backfill dungeon groups who lose a member. This almost certainly isn't changing because no one wants players left hanging in the wind waiting for replacements if someone leaves or is kicked.
    2. The bug that happens when someone tries to queue for the same dungeon after finishing it, but instead it pulls people into the completed instance. Yeah, it sucks. It's actually the bug that first prompted me to join the forums in 2017.

So until ZOS reworks Groupfinder again, this is the practical solution. If you continue to use Groupfinder to find a team, you'll continue to end up in incomplete dungeons.

FFXIV has a flag you can set that blocks you from joining an in progress group.

I would suggest copying that into here.

Add to it - that if you don't set it and get put into an in progress group, you get a 20% XP bonus.

And that bonus is taken from the other members of the group if the spot opened due to a vote kick of someone who was still online... Make there be an added cost to vote kicks - enough to get people to think twice before clicking, but low enough that if the person needs to be removed people will still do it.

One way that would help is if ZOS made it an option in the group finder. If you check “OK as a fill-in for a dungeon already in progress”, then you volunteer to help your fellow explorers or do a dungeon from the beginning. Otherwise, you wait in the queue until only a group forms for a new dungeon from the start.

And this is a problem. There should be an option to include in-progress groups. I have seen it in other MMORPGs.

Precisely. So they should get their own group, or risk getting in halfway through. You say my answer is horrible. I say it is factual. To this day I'm still missing no-death runs of base game dungeons on my necro tank. Do you think I don't intend to get the achievements every time I run those dungeons? Yet I'm placed with groups where there is always someone who dies for some stupid reason. If I want to guarantee I get the achievement, I run with friends.

I honestly can't remember the last time that happened to me. In fact, it's very rare that I'm placed in a group that is already in progress. As others have pointed out, if you take that away, whenever someone in a dungeon rage quits, disconnects, gets kicked, etc. everyone else is stranded. I have nothing against making base game pledges like DLC ones in that you only need to kill the last boss. Apart from that, getting into in-progress groups is rare enough that it's not a concern for me.

I was quite happy to get into a Selene group yesterday, they were at last boss and their previous tank had quit. We fought together, I got a lovely helm, and it took all of 5-6 minutes.

I could then queue again to complete the pledge (luckily for me I tank, so queue times are fast).

100% agree. Either that - or just make every pledge require you to kill only the last boss.
