it is a cosmetic item from collector's edition
i see no reason why you should get it for free

You can buy it after a year from its release in the collector bundle CE in the crown store with the exclusive mount of the chapter. Right now is available the Summerset one.

That means people can get CE style with in-game by trading gold to crowns.
It's as free as farming Morag Tong style pages
By your logic sales shouldn't be allowed either because why should people get discount from items you have paid the full price?
This applies outside of TESO. For example in Steam, Origin or IRL.
You missed the idea behind my post, motifs shouldn't be included in CEs in the first place.
This discussion feels a lot like “everyone should get a craft bag” type thing.
No. People paid for CE rewards, they should get CE rewards. Want that cosmetic only armor look? Pay for it, support the game.
It’s not limited time only, or even that much more expensive.

And because all motifs are also outfit styles, making the new ones available as motifs would diminish the value of the CE. Why would Zos want to do that?

We don't know why ZOS made this choice but we can all agree it's unreasonable to place whole motifs behind paywalls.
Ah, finally I understand why ZOS divorced some armour styles from craftable motifs.
So they could monetise yet another aspect of the game while adding to their pool of defenders. Now they new get both the "crafting doesn't matter because it isn't combat" as well as the "it's only cosmetic" groups. That was better played than I had given them credit for. Not nice, but better played.

Hmm, good point.
Ok, let’s not have any CE limited stuff. If an addition (merch, for example) is good the just sell it. ZOS just sells whatever the item is. For as long as people want to buy it.
No more of this artificial scarcity, FOMO, pre-orders over working content approach. If it is worth putting out there, then keep making it available. If not? Don’t bother.
