Direct and indirect impact of the light and heavy attack changes on healers

In my opinion the light and heavy attack changes directly negatively impact healers, simply due to light attacks doing damage and heavy attacks restoring ressources being stronger on the healer role. Heavy attacks are a very strong situational sustain boost, while sustain usually should not be an issue, so sustain constantly coming for light attacks does not add much value. Damage focused light attacks however add significant DPS for healers that is otherwise not achievable for us, as the nature of the healer role heavily limits the amount of offensive skills and heavy attacks we can use.

More significant however is the potential impact on the sustain of damage dealers. A meta where damage dealers can easily sustain on their own can be massively damaging for healers. The skillgap for healers is currently defined a lot by the sets we are using. Top tier healers focus on damage support, while mid tier healers usually lean more towards sustain sets from what I have seen. Weaker groups require more sustain due to being slower, using up more resources on defense and having less optimized builds and group compositions. Ressource support sets, like Hollowfang, Symphony and Worm, are mostly easier to use then damage support sets, like Zen and Martial Knowledge. Furthermore I would argue that ressource support is, if needed, significantly more impactful than damage support. This leads in my opinion to a very healthy skill gap and learning curve, enabling newer healers to play more basic builds that allow them focus on the roles core functions, while still being very impactful to the group. On the other side, top tier healers can play more complex builds and have a high degree of optimization and in direct DPS increase something to offer to groups that do not need the focus on sustain. Should ressource support completely fall away, this would not only take away one of our main functionalities, but also hurt weaker healers more, as they are losing something very accessible and impactful they can provide to their groups. Without a good way of compensation this would leave those healers that simply can not use damage focused setups significantly less effective then the far less affected top tier players that are already using those setups, making the learning curve and impact of healers on their group very inconsistent and increasing the divide between players.

With the current PTS changes a scenario like this is, I think, likely to happen and I really hope the indirect impact on support roles is kept in mind going forward.

That's a whole lot of words to say "healers are screwed if this goes through".

Every healer should be accustomed to light attack weave between abilities for better ulti gen and enchants proccing, but I agree, especially with resto heavy attack sustain burst from passive. Since HoTs and orbs changes, healer sustain is not that bad, but there are some situations where that sustain burst is needed.
For healer changes, the "skill gap" will definitely widen, rewarding those actively weaving.

I'm tired of reading people saying you get more ulti as a healer from LA weaving. It's simply not true. You get the same ulti from healing someone who got the ulti regen buff up. This includes DDs who did LAs and tanks who are blocking. And to proc enchants you only need one LA or HA every 5-10 seconds with your resto staff (depending on whether your healing staff is infused, and you have blockade for destro staff enchants).

You do not need to LA weave on a healer on live!
