It's the Xit-Xaht tribesmen vs. the Blackmarrow Cult as the RUINS OF MAZZATUN battles FANG LAIR! What a matchup! Holy Xit! Who will move on? YOU DECIDE!

A list of the overall action for BOTH the base and DLC competitions can be found HERE, so people can get a quick glance at the overall action.

All fights will go for TWO DAYS and end at 8PM CST (or your timezone equivalent; figure it out) so this one will end on Friday, March 20th.

    Bought the Shadows Of The Hist DLC when Ruins Of Mazzatun was just the pledge - did the normal a couple of times to get the mechanics down - and after a bit of a grindy PugLife, managed completing Vet to get my first Chudan’s - hoping to wean myself off of Pariah’s.

    I have been nervous to queue for Cradle Of Shadows for my first run, but I have 4 minutes to complete pledge. ;)

    Two very active, highly aggressive final boss fights.

    Both dungeons are classic DLC, long (tediously long at points), with far too many ad pulls and some mechanics that are so convoluted and incomprehensible that simply burning the mini Boss is required. Both are the sort of dungeons you have to be ‘in the mood’ for or you’ll leave immediately if they pop up on random.

    Mazz has far too many options for sneaking past (and yes sneaking is part of the gameplay so it’s a viable strategy and very much in keeping with Heem-Ja’s own fighting technique). While Fang Lair offers far fewer side routes.

    Mazz loses because that final ground AoE apocalypse from the Boss is just eye-grindingly offensive. I’ll take the ghost wall and shalks of Fang Lair any day.

    Can you elaborate? I have no idea what mechanics you are talking about.

    Mazzatun! I love this zone. Fang Lair looks cool, but it is annoying, and can be buggy. I don't enjoy the boss fights. Still a cool zone, though. I just like Mazza better. :D

    This one is super tough for me again. I'm feeling myself more drawn to Fang Lair, and I think that's because I've only ran it very few times, while I've spent a whole week farming Mazzatun before... On one hand, I feel in love with RoM in that time, but it also kind of loses its appeal when you get used to breezing through it. The setting, story, visuals and just overall themes of the dungeon are great though. I have fond memories of my first experiences with it -- trying to get Chudan as a low cp noob tank and watching endless guide videos about how to tank every single trash pull JUST to be sure I do okay. Also fond memories of mastering the dungeon and just breezing through it, felt good. Also, while the trash pulls in waves are quite tedious indeed, syncing up the calendar thing is fun and I appreciate the game allowing you to turn it into a bigger pull if you wish. Mechanics were creative and fun before the nerf hammer hit them (rip spice). However, I'm not sure I can in good faith vote for RoM as someone who doesn't have Mazzatun Massacre... :#
    Fang Lair HM is one that still trips me up (the ghost walls are so damn fast), especially given my lack of experience there, so the difficulty is a huge plus. I'm a fan of bosses that at least try to do the whole 'phases' thing going on, gives it a nice RPG vibe, and I do like the necromancy aspect here. Aeshtetic wise I'm a bit tired of the 'glowy blue stuff' theme though. I also don't really remember the bosses here as well, to be honest... The mechanics that are there I do like, but I don't think they're quite as fun as in RoM.
    RoM also gets a bonus point for some fun OOB exploration.

    Typing this out hasn't helped me at all.

    2) crazy hard mode
    3) unique first boss (zoo)
    4) Watch how the puppets dance. I'll teach you the steps soon enough

    RoM is also very very cool, but Fang Lair is a masterpiece for me. Dragonbones DLC is one of my favorites

    I love ROM's environment design and argonian stuff in general so much but FL boss fights are just way more engaging difficultywise and that is important to me
    destruction magic is not tanking magic. ice destruction staff must be for magicka dps

    If you want to achieve higher rewards it will not be easy, at first. Never give up on yourself IRL or in-game!

    Mazz is about 30% longer than it needs to be. There are literally dlc maps in this game that are shorter from one end to the other than the SotH dungeons.

    The dragon in Fang Lair is really cool, but that's it for me.

    Mazzatun on the other hand is part of the first DLC Dungeon Expansion, so I connect friends and funny moments to it.
    I like the Mechanics, they're special and more thought trough. In Fang Lair I feel like there are only sort of 2 Bosses, where you can't skip the Mechanics/a Mechanic, while in Mazzatun you are very likely to die at several Stages if you don't follow them.

    I really like Argonian architecture and aesthetics (Argonians themselves, not so much). Heem-Jas is hilarious, though.
    Unfortunately, RoM is a tedious slog with so, so many load screen doors in between, and areas that you are supposed to skip but sometimes can't and mobs that become a nuisance when they're aggroed by mistake... I once joined a group mid-dungeon - loaded into the dungeon, went through the portal, had to run past mobs that they skipped, and had two more loading screens when going through doors. That's nuts.
    Some of the bosses are fine (Chudan and the Slayer). The calendar thingy is a nice touch. Many add groups are frankly unnecessary (esp. that arena-like pseudo-boss haöfway through). And the last boss is a good example for a decent idea implemented in a very confusing manner. Esp. execute phase with its turning AoE (that is only half as dangerous as it looks - at best).

    On the other hand, Fang Lair is visually very, very dull. The "look, it's grey and dead with a bit of turquoise glow" is already getting old before you reach the first boss. And it doesn't change in any way throughout the whole dungeon, except for the last arena - a bit. In terms of mechanics, it's much more interesting for me, than RoM.
    We also basically lived there for two months or so to get the Challenger achievement, so that is a very subjective bonus but eventually, the deciding factor.
