What Has Better Playable Stats...

Imperial StamPlar CP 810. The weapon/jewelery is Deadly Strike. Dagger/dagger and bow. The monster set is Grundwulf.
Every single piece of my equipment is gold. Every glyph is gold. All the armor set pieces are in medium and divines. All armor set pieces have the stamina glyph. I'm using the Shadow for my boon. Main hand is Nirnhined, off hand is sharpened and back bar is infused. Jewelery is robust with the weapon damage glyphs.
If I equip New Moon Acolyte;
• weapon damage = 4117
• weapon critical = 50.9%
If I equip Vicious Ophidian;
• weapon damage = 3506
• weapon critical = 54.7%
I play solo, mostly PvE. I've run every trial and have every single end game set possible in weapons/jewelery and armor (except perfected, not wasting my life running after those sets). I find myself really only going into Cyrodiil to rank up to Tier 1. Once I reach Tier 1, I'm out. I very rarely group up, mostly attack resources to earn tier points. My question is, which set stats do I want for this? Is one better for PvE and the other for PvP? Thank you.

Oh, Hi Stormfox.

That's the conventional wisdom, but as shields can be crit for a while now one of the main reasons for that has gone away. I wouldn't say no to crit on a templar or nightblade in PvP. I run a Caluurion build that doesn't give me much Spell Damage, but does give me 52% crit. The sustained damage isn't as bad as my horrible tooltips would indicate.

OP, in terms of the two set choices, New Moon all the way for PvP. I wouldn't run VO in PvP ever. Minor Slayer is no use and killing isn't like PvE, where you often have a constant stream of trash to feed VO. That set, as you may know, is renowned as a solo set, especially for vMA. I don't think people really use it for PvE group content though.

Impen for PvP, especially if you are inexperienced. Your other choices are typically some Well Fitted or Sturdy, but not Divines, unless in some (nightblade) gank builds. You're probably pretty squishy. I find it OK to play stamplar very aggressively and squishy, but I'd use 2H to obtain Rally and Onslaught for PvP.

PvP: pretty much no go bc slayer is useless and you’re not proccing 5th piece that often
PvE: on my Orc Stamplar I pretty much only use it in vMA. You may for solo as an imp even bc it’s really your only slayer. You want slayer generally if your DPS is high. Can test VO vs another set on 3mil dummy and see how the damage and sustain works out. Stamplar has the least need for VO bc good sustain plus we have a skill that mimicks the 5 piece (repent)

NMA
PvP: it’s good; you’d probably be best off crafting weapons though if you get more serious in PvP to avoid the high cost on back bar and use deadly on “body”
PvE: deadly on stamplar should still beat it; you can double check on 3mil. Id do a quick parse check of NMA+VO, NMA+Deadly, VO+Deadly on dummy. I haven’t bc VO is just too good in vMA and I always just go Lokk+Deadly in dungeon/Brp. So non-vMA solo I’m just not sure.

Generally
VO: best on “body”
NMA; best only on weapons
Deadly: works fine just on front bar but can go body too

In general I think:

In PvE trials in good groups:
Crit > WP/SP > Max stat

Solo/Dungeons outside optimized groups and low CPs:
WP/SP > Max stat > Crit

PvP damage dealers:
WP/SP > Max stat > Crit

PvP Healers:
Healing done > Crit > Max Stat = WP/SP

There are exceptions like magsorc and MagWarden. In general any good pvp solo spec can clear vMA.
