The block player system in this game is a joke

This is probably the only game I have ever seen that when you block someone, even on the forums too, they still see what you write, and so they can just have their friends copy and paste insults and send them to you, and then when your block list is full you are SoL, why can it not be like every other game where if you block someone they cant see what you say, and vice versa?

Have to just ignore those that insult you. You can also just go to Offline mode.

In all my years of online, never felt the need to block anyone specifically because they were targeting me. Blocked a few in general chat that were just being constant cuss dogs. Not sure how effective the block would be on forums. Couldn't they just set up a different email account to get back on?

Reporting the person would be the better option.

    IMHO

So what you’re saying is that the block system does work?

Just keep on ignoring people’s accounts and eventually they’ll have no accounts to reply to you?

I always thought if you blocked someone, then they couldn't see your messages and you can't see theirs, so I'm surprised to hear this isn't the case? Can anyone give the facts on what blocking someone actually does?

In-game block list is spacious enough to let you block a person and all of their close friends. Multiple times.

Forums are provided to ZOS as an a la cart package from a separate company and I assume ZOS has little say in how block function works on the forums. Outside of switching to another provider. But it's enough to say that block list on the forums is pitifullly small and blocking someone does not even prevent your from seeing their threads.

In any case, if the situation is indeed crossing the line of harassment you can report them and call it a day. But there is a difference between being intentionally insulted by someone and just having your feelings hurt because someone happens to disagree with you.

I assume we are talking in-game block? It prevents them from whispering or sending mails to you (and vice versa) and prevents you from seeing their messages in zone/group/guild and so on. And I believe it also prevents them from intentionally grouping with you. But you can still land in the same group if you are using dungeon/battleground finder.

On the forums you can't private message each other, and their public comments are all greyed out... but if you really want to know you can click to see what the comment said & then click again to grey it back out

You can still message them, but cannot read their replies. They can see what you write, such as in Zone Chat, but you will not see what you write. Think of it as a one-way mute button.

Used properly, its a good way to gain some peace from people who annoy you. They can waste their time if they want, but you don't have to read what they write.

However, as you might guess, there's a number of PVPers who use this to trash talk other players they've ignored, letting them toss out insults while avoiding the inevitable snappy comebacks in return. (I'm sure PVEers do this too, but I mostly see it in PVP.)

Its not the one person, its them and their friends. I do block a lot, but again, they can still see what i write.

You can still hear what they say in group if they happen to be in the group for example in cyro.

personal attacks are personal attacks no matter what color of paint you slap on it. But this isnt about that, however i mentioned the forum block system because it functions nearly identical to the in game one.

how about real life ignore treatment?

Are you really telling someone who is being harassed to " just ignore it "? Thats a non solution.

It’s pretty much what ZOS appear to be saying in terms of their practices regarding abuse.

It's actually the best solution. It works 100% of the time. Unless that person escalates the harassment to your real life. But just for the internet, as soon as I stop taking any notice of them and not caring about them one way or another, the problem is gone.

Getting angry and making threads like this probably just make your tormentor happy.

Bringing attention to harassment is what needs to be done, ignoring it and saying whatever is not because it will effect someone else eventually or often.

I doubt there is anything you can do to stop someone being a general jerk in their life. At least not with reports and telling others about them. You're just personally responsible for yourself, you can't worry about protecting others from their bullying or whatever. Well you can, but it's not very realistic to think your reporting or campaign against them can prevent others from being their target as well.

On the internet it really pays to have a thick skin, make yourself immune to all the BS that people can throw your way. It's all baggage you can do without.

For what it is worth, I have found that ignoring people doesn't always work, but not giving a cr*p generally does.

Also, if they are genuinely harrassing/trolling you, on here (for no good reason), you could always report their post, explaining exactly why you view it as harrassing/trolling.

Make sure you also request that the thread is not closed, as that is (generally) what they are trying to make happen by trolling/derailing.

I know this not nearly the same as a forum page or a mmo zone chat but when I was a kid me and my best friend used to get bullied by these guys a few years older then us. They would harass us everyday walking home from school, we usually would shout insults back or try to confront them but that only escalated things. Eventully I got the idea of completely ignoring them and pretending i couldnt hear them. They eventually stopped bullying me cause it's no fun when you dont get a reaction, but my friend who was too stubborn to ignore them continued to confront them over and over again to no anvil. Bullies feed off reactions.

I am actually surprised this was not mentioned earlier. ESO has no block feature. You cannot block anyone, not in the game or on the forum. ESO has an ignore feature, and that is different from a block. An ignore is a muting function that controls what you see, not what they see.

ESO probably needs a block feature, but my guess is that they want that level of problem handled by customer support and the ToS team.
