How Long Did it Take You to Find Your Main?

So, everyone has a main. But, how long did it take you to find your main and how did you know?

For example, it could’ve been the first character you made or you found your main by trying different classes.

    How long: 5 years.
How did I know: I soloed an anomaly WB in Craglorn without dying.

(My previous main couldn't even solo a single overland main zone WB, so now he's got a blacksmith apron on and is now my dedicated crafter)

Second character about mid-July 2018. I started with a stamblade, but high ping made it fairly impossible since I was so new at the time (better satellite, and better understanding of stuff in game now makes her quite playable) but then I found the warden class, and made a Redguard warden.

She became my main the minute I got into game from chargen. I have a warden main on both my accounts, on both PC megaservers. LOVE it. Not quite as good as hunters in WoW, but this game's a lot better overall so it's okay.

Knew from the start. Stamblade worked best for the ranger type I was going for.

My first character is still my main. I wanted a sneaky archer type like I played in Skyrim, so stamblade it was. I don't really chase meta or do endgame content, and much of my gameplay enjoyment comes from expanding on her character journey as she goes through the game story, so I've never had a reason to ditch her.

About 6 months. I played one of each class. The downside of that was having to repeat Cold Harbour multiple times but I love my ZooSorc.

Two years and two mains later I discovered how much fun it was to be a Dragonknight. Its been difficult to be anything else but I know if the DK didn't exist I'd be a Sorcerer.

Either a couple of beta tests or 13 years, depending on how you look at it.

I've been making, playing and refinding broadly the same character in every TES game since Morrowind (which was the first one I really played) so I knew what kind of character I wanted before I even started ESO, it was just a matter of working out which class and other choices were the best fit.

The biggest barrier to getting it right was that previously focusing on stealth was one of her defining features, so I thought Nightblade was the obvious choice. But after a while I realised I could get everything I associated with stealth from the weapon and armour skill lines and the class skills were more about what kind of magic you used. So I played around with different classes and settled on templar as the nearest equivalent to destruction and restoration magic.

I had settled on MagBlade at first, after trying out both Mag Sorc and Stam DK. MagBlade was a lot of fun :p

But then Morrowind got released with the Warden class. It felt like the class was made for me and it's been my main ever since :)

(though there are times I'm debating between staying Mag or switching to Stam :D )

I have some of both, and an occasional tanky type as well. My stamdens kill a LOT faster than the magdens do. Was the other way round on my old satellite connection (which was like molasses running uphill in January compared to this one); not sure why - but then again, it might just be changes in the class itself over the year and a half I've been playing.

I have 40 characters across two servers on two accounts. I don't have a main. They are all equal individuals, albeit of varying levels.

You and i have a lot in common @Tryxus The amount the Warden has been unnecessarily changed makes me sometimes wish i never bothered and stayed with my Magblade - But i did love the warden when it was released, just wish they did more with the ice mage archetype and gave us a darn CC :)

My second character is currently my main. My fifth character is close behind as my secondary. Main is more tanky, secondary is much better at DPS and can run like the wind. Some of my other characters might end up being better than everybody, but I haven't played with and leveled them enough yet to tell.

I tend to rotate mains. I wish I could stick with one but my tastes change.
    1.
First was a stamsorc. After a while I didn't like always being in lightning form, but dropping that skill seemed dumb. Plus just wanted to try other things.
    2.
So I made a warden. I liked the nature theme, but eventually couldn't stand how all those creatures you summon look like holograms or something instead of actual wild creatures. Also was argonian so I really hated being covered in ice all the time.
    3.
So then it was a tanky magplar. That was awesome, puncturing sweeps is just disgustingly good for being a tanky dps. Played the most on him.

But now I'm back after a break and hunting for a new one. It's starting to look like stamdk, but could also be magblade, not sure yet. Any opinions?

It took me as long as I needed to read through the class and weapon skill descriptions for ESO.

I came to ESO from the TES single player games (since Morrowind).
    I always played an Imperial.
I usually had characters that were good at nearly everything (I sorely miss that in ESO), but favoured weapons over spells for resolving fights, and only used stealth for the opening bow shot, or for, well, stealth quests. Plus, I loved the Oblivion main story with the dragon fires, and the pact between the (true) Empire and Akatosh.
So it had to be an Imperial Dragonknight. Using mainly Stamina and Health, because Magicka is only for the many tricks of convenience. (Well, that's how I used it in the single player games. Works different here, there aren't many tricks of convenience, just combat.) Starting group content I found out that this makes the character a tank. Fine by me. (But the group content is only secondary for me, anyway.)

I had to make another char first, to get into the game to use the crown store to buy the Imperial whateveritscalled that you need to create an Imperial, but that was just a means to an end, never played that one.

So my first (real) character was intended to be, is, and will stay my main character.

I only have two real characters anyway. Because ESO made me love the Khajiit, so I made a Khajiit Nightblade. Not because I like playing Nightblades, but because I thought the class most fitting for my slightly roguish Khajiit lady. I don't play her nearly as much as my Imperial, though, and she'll never get anywhere close to having many achievements.

5 years and counting. Problem is I always start a character with an idea or playstyle in mind, then by the time I get them to Lv50 I realize that with all the restrictions on morphs, sets, stats, etc. they all end up playing the same anyway. Add the fact that you have to be a tank if you ever want to do group content without scheduling six months in advance, there's really no point in getting attached to any character because they'll just end up crowding my character select screen till the end of time.
