Not sure if I should start with a new char

Basically i’m cp 90 with one DK lvl 50. A redguard on DC.

I’m feeling like playing a wood elf or probably a dunmer if I can make a good looking one (probably impossible tbh).

I like the DC but I’m wondering if I shouldn’t go EP. I know there is one Tamriel update, but I liked their story and the red flag. DC has the best background though.

Main issue would be my current char with some crafting profs at 40 and it cost me a bit, a few recipes... either I change the race but can’t change the faction or I make a new char with a new name.

Concerning the Alliances though I felt like AD was mostly dominating while EP is hidden behind gates and DC trying to get some spots but losing them just as quickly.

What would be best considering I have advanced on some professions with my old character ?

You could hold onto them as a crafter. No need to really lose everything unless you're out of toon slots.
But if you did want to restart, the sooner the better. Crafting professions to 40 and "a few recipes" are nothing in the long run. Unless maybe they are million-gold recipes... In which case -- just hold onto them as a daily writ crafter while you figure things out.

Bottom line -- no point playing something if you don't feel you enjoy it anymore.

You’re right ! I’ll need to check the recipes but I don’t think it’s expensive stuff, mostly concerned for furnitures

The professions are the smallest issue of the points you've brought up, honestly. It's normal to have one dedicated crafting character and you would be smart to continue using that character to research and level crafting as you will continue to benefit from it.

Anything else is your personal preference, and there's nothing wrong with having characters for all alliances (though I know some PVPers become very loyal). I'd personally still get the DK to CP160 first, just to hit gear cap, but there's alos nothing wrong with doing that when you hit level 50 with your next character.

Edit: Honestly, especially if you keep to certain campaigns on the different characters, it's pretty easy to split up your allegiances.

In terms of Alliance, it only matters in Cyrodiil. And then, for me, the issue isn’t which Alliance is bossing it, it’s which Alliance are most of my friends/guildies on because playing in Cyrodiil is improved massively when you play as a group and it’s insanely annoying not to be able to play your main character because they’re not the same Alliance as your friends.

In terms of crafting skills - always be researching. Writs aside, there is no point in bothering with crafting if you aren’t building up your knowledge of traits.

Overall, my advice would be, park your existing character because it sounds like you’re not enjoying it, and roll a new one. Play the new one, but keep up the research and pony training on the old one. Get the old one to do all your deconning to gradually level their crafting and just go out adventuring and having fun on the new one.

Some people have their crafter as different character and it is totally viable.
You can craft your potions and food in chunks beforehand then live for a month without needing to craft.
Unless you change gear-sets every day, it will irrelevant too.

For alliance, we all will tell you which alliance is the best because we have different reasons to like our alliances but there is no dominating alliance. It changes depending on the campaign, time of the day etc

All that matters is that you align yourself with the Daggerfall Covenant...

I’d keep the other character and start a new one, so just in case you feel like it isn’t working out you always have a fallback.

I had same situation: a character with good craft progress and knowledge of motifs. I left her as a crafter and keep developing her motif and recipe knowledge. I created another character for questing and combat. It is convenient as crafts take a lot of skillpoints. So now I have a Grand Master Crafter and 710 CP warrior.

As a general rule of thumb in this game, the more characters you have, the better.

Having a second character means

• having new and cheap inventory space to be filled,
• getting to do more daily quests and daily random dungeons/battlegrounds for more XP that get you more champion points faster
• not needing to invest skill points, recipes, blueprints and motifs into crafts that you already learned on another character (as a tip, try to keep Blacksmithing, Woodworking and Clothier on the same character, so that you only need to get motifs once)
• not getting bored as easily because you can switch up your playstyle by playing another class or spec

As to which alliance you should go with, it doesn't really matter. Where do your friends play PvP? Pick that one, or if you are tired of your friends or always wanted to beat them up or maybe like to switch to the winning alliance all the time, pick a different alliance than them.

No matter what you do, get that current character to CP160. It should not take too long.

This way, all other Alts will be at the Gear Cap as soon as they hit L50.

The CP10 to CP159 slog is the goofiest time in the game and should only be experienced on one character.

I suggest playing your lvl 50/CP 90 toon while you have some enlightenment XP to burn. Once you've hit your 400K xp for the day, switch out to a lower level toon so you're getting more bang for your buck (time) leveling more quickly.

I 100% agree with some of the previous comments in that the more toons you have the better. You will have more options for gameplay. Plus creating new toons is just fun! I've got 10 now and am thinking about paying to unlock another slot.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the sooner you create another toon, the sooner you can start visiting the stable with them to increase your mount speed. At one point, I was logging on to all of my 10 toons just to bump their mount speed or carrying capacity (if speed was already at 60) but that got tedious after about a month so I backed off that.

I will echo what FierceSam said here. The most important factor in choosing an alliance for Pvp is which alliance you have friends on who also like to pvp. The state of the map can vary a lot from campaign to campaign, the time of day, and month to month. Campaign score doesn't change quite as quickly but personally I would rather be on the losing faction and be pvping with the people I know and enjoy, than zerg surfing my way to end of campaign rewards on the winning faction.

If you really like this game, then I would look to level 1 of each class. You might find you really enjoy a class you didnt consider originally. I wouldnt get too hung up on race as they can always be changed, but certainly, a little thought goes a long way. Pick a magic race if you want a magic character for example.

Your alliance really only matters for PVP. You can play all the PVE stories with any alliance. If you dont PVP, pick any alliance you want. If you do, perhaps start by making one character in each alliance.

No reason to delete what you have, and at CP 90, literally nothing you have is of all that much value in terms of recipes, gear, etc. You could certainly look to make your first character a crafter. It's what a lot of us end up doing.

That said, before you make a new toon, I would suggest getting to 160 CP. Getting to the gear cap means you can all but ignore CP10-150 nonsense the second time you level.
