Suggestion to Change Earthgore Proc Visuals

I'm not sure if this has been tossed around before, but I would like to suggest changing the visuals of the 2 piece Monster Set, Earthgore's healing proc.

For those of you unaware, Earthgore is a Monster Set that, when a nearby ally drops to a low health percentage, it will autocast a healing circle on them.

The healing circle is a dark red blood cloud, raining blood.

I can't count how many times in PuG groups of various levels, I've had to explain this -- and assure them that I'm not trolling. It's tiresome, and frankly it's not something I can groan about people not knowing since it's a giant, red, ominous looking AoE that in every other instance of the game would scream BAD BAD BAD DO NOT STAND HERE.

Nevermind the fact that it's nigh indistinguishable from the default color the game sets offensive AoEs to - and every other game. I have mine set to bright pink to combat this, but still.

I know that some people might respond with how it's just a part of the game and how it's easy to recognize once you know how to recognize it (redundant, but anyway), but for the sake of healers not having to explain to every. single. group. that they run with. to not run out of the Earthgore proc, please. Consider it.

The spirit of your idea is good, @Styrlaug, but players can already change the color of ground AOE heals in the game settings.

For example, my ground effect heals are set to yellow in the game settings ... even when an Earthgore animation procs.

Running with PUGs is like a box of chocolates ... which includes some of them not knowing how to adjust the game settings to better suit their playstyle.

I see people roll out of Olo and away from Bodgen totem as well.

Watching players trying to get away from the evil blood cloud is one of the reasons I like it. Even if they run out of it the evil blood cloud has already for the most part done its job.
It would be funnier if it followed the player it was healing for the six seconds so we get to watch them scramble for the entire time.

I totally understand that there's a fix, but the entire issue is that as a healer, I have to pretty much walk people through the explanation of the fix and mechanics of Earthgore in almost every PuG I'm a part of. So it doesn't really help, if you get me. It's strange! Even in seasoned vet groups where we're killing things left and right, I still find people who don't know what Earthgore is or looks like lol.

That rain does look scary. Even putting green ring around it could help (prolly not).

    Very true

Everytime this proccs people try to run away from it lol

And then I have to say "Nooo, dont gooo" :joy:

But tbh with the thrill of fight it is easy to miss enemy red circles from this one so I can not blame people

I may have changed my AoE of doom color, but not because I’d roll dodge out of an EG without thought. Nope, definitely not the reason at all.

I don’t know that I’ve seen any friendly AoE indicators pop up under Earthgore before. Can anyone confirm it has a friendly indicator outside of PvP?

Maybe I just haven’t turned a setting on somewhere

It’s not like the transparent red overlay of an AoE, but the jumpier among us will see the red rain and lizard brain away from it anyways.
I mean, I’m speaking hypothetically of course

Same thing with some of the newer sets like Hollowfang or Cadwell’s Chicken which generate their own AoE indicators.

Trying to convince/remind players that the big expanding AoE is actually beneficial is a thankless task. It’s particularly weird given there are many beneficial AoEs that have no visual area indicator.

The Earthgore blood rain is a very unique effect and quite disturbing to be honest... There’s no way you can miss it when it goes off. But it might be equally effective if it was more subtle like, say, Lord Warden’s.

I put Earthgore on my DD character (I am not doing dungeons with randoms) specifically to get that visual effect for role-playing reasons.

My healer does not have that problem with Earthgore and pugs since they normally don't make any effort to avoid red. ;)

Okay, I'm joking. Seriously, I agree with OP.

You know what I'd like to see changed? The stupid Hollowfang blood ball.
Such a huge pita to have in your face when tanking especially in situations where it actually hides the boss -_-

When I'm on my DD I don't even pay attention it. If it procs its because I missed something like a block or dodge, but it has done its job. What you're likely to see is the action that should have happened, but a little later than needed.

Seasoned vet groups shouldn't be having an issue with it.

I can't believe people are still using earthgore after the tremendous nerf it had. lol

I removed friendly colour (made it extremely dim) and I've got zero problems with either hollowfang or coldharbour's favourite.
