I am not sure when exactly it got to be broken, maybe around the dot meta, but break free is in a horrible state right now. Everyone I have talked to that pvps regularly knows that break free is extremely unreliable nowadays, and that means sometimes it can be close to instant, other times it can take you more than 2 seconds for the game to react. To me, this issue is a much bigger one than say overperforming skills, because right now the rng of break free feels like the biggest factor in determining the outcome of a duel or fight. In the past, break free used to be instant, and I don't know what zos has done to make it so bad now, but break free is so integral to the pvp mechanics and when that doesn't work, pvp to a large degree can be said to not work.
I would be very happy if this problem was fixed, so it wouldn't be up to rng to decide whether I can break free or not

    In Cyro right now and died a bunch of time to not being able to break free at full stam...

    Also got DC'd twice now.

    What's even worse, I think, is when the game doesn't even tell you you're stunned. Standing up straight, nothing grayed out, but unable to do anything, you try to dodge because it looks like you're snared, realize you're 'invisible stunned', then you try to break free(If you're still alive AND if breakfree even pops). Working as intended ;)

    It seams overtime they make a change to anything they sneak in an extra 0.1 sec to break free.. also some stuns are so inconsistent like the vamp drain for example its so frustratingly broken.

    This has also been what I suspected - that they have sneakily added some extra 'stun time' so game isn't nice and fluid.. but the inconsistency of it makes it very hard to make and clear conclusions on it sadly. Though one thing I feel fairly confident in saying is that even when break free works better atm, it still feels worse than it once did, which does feel in line when some sneaky changes to the mechanic

    It's clunky right now for sure I think. Snipe seems worse too, and fear, but might just be the pop that's on for MYM running the stuff.

    I dont know if they added time to stuns.

    I suspect its more to do with server load. Usually when I am "perma stunned" is when a large group rolls over me. I think it's more likely many people are hitting with multiple stuns and snares and the server just cant handle it.

    About that time no skills fire reliably anyway so not much of a stretch to see break free not work.


    On another note
    I think its the necro fear, with this I have to break free multiple times one after the other to break free, which seems to be ridiculous.

    What is the point of using resources to break free if you are not broken free, have no immunity and need to do it again?

    Add in lag/delay and I have to wait between each break-free attempt often more than a second.

    There is a reason most organized groups use the necro fear.

    I would love it if they fixed break free.

    Most of the time it takes too long to actually break free, then other times you can't break free at all.

    When hit by leap for example, you need to fly around in the air a while, then land and slide around the floor for 5mins until you can finally break free, ofc by this point you have probably been killed and tbagged.

    And like Nord_raseri said, sometimes your cc'd and can't even tell since the game gives no sign.

    These issues with break free are making the game frustrating to play and are often the main deciding factor of a fight.

    Snare immunity is also still very buggy. It sometimes gives no immunity and sometimes you get snared/immobilized during immunity.

    I don’t remember there being a time where break free actually worked one hundred percent. Always been broken with certain skills being top offenders such as fear, vamp drain and javelin.
    Zerg of House Smallscale, First of his name, wielder of Volendrung, battleground hero, Cyrodiil butcher, the swifft footed, OG of the Templars and first pvpers, defender of scrolls and baiter of zergs.

    While the unreliable and unresposive state of cc breaking is absolutely awful to deal with and should have priority when it comes to fixes - i'm afraid nerfs to cc skills and the new set are ZOS' only "solutions" to the problem. Ridiculous and sad, but it would fit their usual agenda.

    ugh.. well could be true :( I just want at least the core mechanics of the game to work somewhat decent. Doesn't feel like it should be too much to ask for

    90% of the time I have trouble breaking free, it is when I'm feared. I have been at full or near full stam (usually 11k+) and always have trouble breaking from fear. This isn't new either, it's at least 2 years since I've had this issue. But also, I have noticed it more frequently from any cc.

    yeah. that is also why I find it hard to be more specific when it went wrong.. because break free always had issues form time to time, but nowhere near the scale it is at now. Fear has given me the longest durations of not being able to break free (sometimes actually having to wait out the entire 4 seconds :D ), but I have it with all ccs. Rune cage a lot of the time, but I think it might just be confirmation bias because I see more sorcs, and that the break free issue is problematic across all ccs

    I don't think it is the same issue with all cc skills. It is mostly rune cage and occasionally fear for me too which are sometimes completely unbreakable, while at other times they are very easy to break. Meanwhile other skills like Leap always feel unresponsive/delayed to break, with the occasional "sliding on the ground bug", but never completely unbreakable so far. Unless hit by the "double cc bug", which causes all cc to become unbreakable and has been in the game for years.

    Very much this...I'd say at least half my deaths in BG's are due to not being able to break-free even with full resources.

    That and skills not firing as they should. Its getting a little ridiculous quite frankly

    Break free in this game is my number one source of frustration - it rarely works and its only getting worse.. And why is it some classes can CC and other's cant, i never understand that.

    So instead of fixing this... the idle hands of the dev team is busy nerfing Iceheart into the ground.*

    Because... priorities!

    *I know it's two separate teams but it seems like the game would benefit from more programmers and fewer combat and balance developers.
