Too dark? Have you played through the main questline or done any content in the game related to Molag Bal, aka the Daedric prince of domination, aka the Daedric prince of ***?

He is the one who created the Volkihar vampires, and rumor is that he lived up to the last title that I mentioned when doing so. That may be adding to the "too dark" pile, but the base ESO game already features perhaps the darkest and most disturbing Daedric prince.

yeah lets not forget that Lamae Bal (the Matriarch of all Vampire PCs) was a daughter of coldharbor. basicly Molag Bal captured, ***, tortured, and killed these women for fun, cursing some with vampirism. doesn't get much darker than that.

    Yes, all of these above.

And, oh boy, people will always find something to complain about. :/

People are not getting it, it's not that this type of content is not in the game. Dark topics are touched on all over the place but that's not all TES is about, a whole year on this one subject? I don't want to spend a whole year on that one subject. Vamps getting an update, sure. Make it the first part of the 4 updates, sure. A whole year, not with my money.

I was really surprised when Rich said that the "year long story" was so well received, when there has been criticism all the time that it's just too much when you are just not interested in that particular theme of the year, and that more variety in the different DLCs was more interesting and refreshing.
The first DLC hasn't even hit PTS yet and I'm already kind of dreading the Reach DLC in Q4, lol. It's just too much.

Cuse every 18+ content makes you spend a year watching vampires before you switch subjects?

Pretty sure the dungeon dlc are not featuring vampires, so it is not the whole year, maybe it might be only the chapter. Still better imo than the chapter+dlc we got for cats and dragons

IMO Summerset is the best zone ever added to the game. Stories of all types and subjects. Also the zone looked like a fantasy setting. I enjoy playing a zone like Coldharbour but give us another Summerset from time to time.

And imagine there are people who just are not fond of this Summerset Disney zone or Elswyr and cats everywhere.. and are all fine with the fact now they're getting something different?

Yes, I'm not saying that this type of story shouldn't exist in TESO, of course it should be present in TESO one day, it's just that spreading the subject over a year might be quite long, after that you can say the same thing about dragons, but I think that with a dragon story people could project themselves into it more than a vampire topic and especially as a theme of the year linked to a region as emblematic as Skyrim, at worst, they should have announced vampires during the year, but not at the first announcement of Skyrim arrival.

Vampires, werewolves, witches, and the supernatural have always been part of TES lore, a HUGE part. Hell, Molag Bal was originally the daedric prince of ***. And the entire main story revolves around him.

They are there but always a side thing you can decide to be part of. Sure one will show up in a story from time to time and you need to decide if you should cut off its head but your always happy when you have moved on to something else. It's a side dish not the main course. This is allot to have to eat over a long year as the main focus.

The entire main story and alliance story has to do with the daedric prince of *** and necromancy on some level. It's pretty darned present. If you didn't do the main story line or the alliance line, or elsweyr, what are u even doing?

Depravity and destruction are basic mainstays of this game!
You have to kill people ALL THE TIME. Deadra are really really not ‘nice’ at all.

And people are complaining about the year long story that might possibly be about vampires? You don’t even know what the whole story is yet, (many other things were mentioned. Such as ‘separatist’ Nords outside the Pact; werewolves & witches; possibly The Reach) and yet you already decided.

I wasn’t keen on the idea of dragons initially, but liked Elsweyr a lot when I played it through. I am not personally enamoured of vampires etc either but I will wait & see.

But hey, these forums are for whinging and complaining that the game does not manage to be all things to all people. Sad.

I have to agree with some of the detractors, vampires seems more like sub-plot content, rather than a driving primary plot for a whole chapter. In skyrim as an example, even the whole Imperial occupation force v.s. the militant Stormcloak faction sub-plot had a great deal of depth and you could see reasonable and extremist views from both camps. I can't see how they are going to thicken this out with any juicy drama or complex decisions, we're just going to be westerners fighting evil, like we always do, again.

Well maybe because it seems like for many players its becoming increasingly harder to be the "hero of tamriel." Even avoiding the evil paths I have felt it nearly impossible to feel like the hero of anything in this game. Being an M rated game doesn't mean it has to be filled with dark themes. I still wish they would've pushed for the T rating back in the day.

Tbh. I am kinda curious how they are going to balance it out. WWs are already useless on live and vamps are superior. They are mandatory for competitive PvP and very useful in end-game PvE - they boost your DPS by quite a lot.

So if they are going to "re-vamp the vamp" and buff it, it would be simply weird to see no changes to WW.

What ability, exactly, from the vampire skill line, do you slot on your bars & weave into your rotation that increases your DPS in PvE content? I'll wait eagerly for a response.😁

They know what they did is why the hesitation. They knew this would be polarizing. Making it a year long theme is the kicker. It's a whole year of content that not only I have no interest in but is repulsive to many. Hesitant is right.

That's not why they were hesitant to mention the Falmer. They were hesitant to spoil a much-desired story element up front.
People have been asking for the Falmer to make an appearance for years.

I don't understand all of the complaints about vampire changes. This forums has been lit up for years because vampires did not follow standard genre. People complained that vampires should Need to feed and grow weaker when they did not feed.

They re-vamp (their pun, not mine ) to do just this and to have actual vampiric powers, again following the genre...

      and people are COMPLAINING ????

It's a very, very small vocal minority.

I will be genuinely surprised if ZOS does anything about it. These are the same as the people that were screeching about why Necromancer couldnt be added or why dragons couldn't return.

There's be enough positive feedback for them to not even acknowledge these people. Especially if the new system works out very well and is loved by many, the screeches of the few lore-nerds will eventually just be drowned out.

Imagine being worried about them destroying something that is basically garbage to begin with and you haven't even seen the new system yet....

The entire point of the re-vamp is to completely overhaul the vampire system. Give us something we've not had before. Step away from the passives-only play style of current vamp.

At least wait till they release details about it before being worried.

With those changes, the tables are turned: the few that want to roleplay vampires can do so in a way that makes sense, but now the majority of min-maxers need to actually play vampires to keep their buffs.
