PVP - How to take down supertanky oponents as stamplar?

Mariusghost84
Mariusghost84

I do BGs and my major issue is taking down opponents that are ultra tanky. Usually i do PoTL, PI, critiscal rush and sweeps followed by executioner but on super tanky DKs/Wardens that just doesnt do enough damage. Any tips?

here is the build im using:

you could try Binding Javelin, solar bararge, Crit rush, ritual of retribution sweeps and executioner (Crescent Sweep if they still need it)

Stamplar can burst down those tanky players pretty good tbh.

PoL, Onslaught and turn evil are your best friends i would say.

If they are super tanky then just leave them alone, most likely they cant kill you either.

Sometimes if you want to win the match leaving them alone isn't the answer.

You not gonna win if you dance with tanks for several minutes. Go after others and get several kills in that time.

My problem is i get very competitive and vengeful if one of these tanks kill me and god forbid tbags me . From the moment that happens my one and only objective is to kill that dude, over and over again.

Thanks for you input guys. @Alienoutlaw i havent used Binding Javelin and solar bararge in pvp at all. I gotta take a look on those 2 if you say it can help! :)

To quote Dottz Gaming: 'its the D-Swing into the BONK!'

POTL, Blinding Javelin, Onslaught, Executioner is a good and satisfying combo.

@Mariusghost84 binding javelin is a long range stun that ignores targets Resistances.allowing you to close with crit rush. hitting Ritual of retribution applies a large AoE increasing your hit box, Solar Barrage with jabs will give the pressure needed, use executioner to finish with and if needed Crescent Sweep to finish, if they run chase them down again with spear and rinse repeat, Solar Barrage paired with Grothdar is a very nasty combo also

if you think stamplar is hard try stam/magblade.
stamplar is just potl -jab x 90000. is braindead easy.

if your hitting a tank maybe try not hitting a tank?
maybe go after the players whos entire purpose isnt to not die?

    pick targets.

I wouldnt use solar Barrage on stamplar, it is a magicka skill and will hit like a wet noodle and eat your magicka.

Also the ritual of retribution isnt worth slotting if you aim for burst and not pressure. Use the one wich removes more negative effects.

Also Onslaught will give you why more burst and damage increase then crescent sweep. The extra pen will literally make them naked against you.

Drop javelin for turn evil, it will cost more but they cant block or Dodge the stun and it will also give you more wp damage from the passives.

As Monster set use selene Not grothdarr. Grothdarr is pressure, selene is burst. When you time it good you can fear them into Selene, pol and Onslaught. Pretty nasty and hard to survive.

Jabs when they dodge in execute range, jabs are undodgeable otherwise use executioner.

Bar setup could look like this:

Front: Jabs, execute, Gap Close, turn evil, Forward Momentum - Onslaught

Backbar: Poison Injektion, PoL, Vigor, extended Ritual, restoring Focus - Temporal Guard

As mundus i would rather pick the warrior cause it also buffs your heals.

You combo should be something like:

light attack -> Poison Injektion -> PoL -> Dodgeroll cancel barswap (maybe with vigor to have a running hot while fighting) -> Gap Close -> Turn evil -> Onslaught -> jabs one or two times -> execute after PoL exploded.

Should kill most of the players besides either trolltanks for top tier players.

if their super tanky you probably cannot kill them.

just the way it is, some tank builds can sustain through 10 people beating on them in pvp, let alone 1v1, its why so much stuff is banned in structured 1v1's run privately.

and if its BG's it usually comes down to who has the best / most healers, if its 2 teams with no healers vs 1 team with a healer, sucks to be you.

just the way it is *shrugs*
    ESO player since beta.
    game got too disappointing.

    Hi,

Pretty much agree with previous posts:
    - Javelin is good, but gives cc immunity, and you'll probably miss a 'root' skill once at contact. Turn Evil might fit.
    - Temporal guard has limited benefit, you already get minor protection from Spear wall, you could use weapon ult instead (Onslaught or Ballista, depending on your playstyle)
    - Solar barrage would be great (10s empower - try it)
    - Forward momentum and Mist are probably not BiS, try Race Against Time (psijic, front bar) and potions instead
    - you may consider Snipe-Lethal arrow instead of Poison injection (because minor defile, and how PoL works)
    - Jabs would help - though it's also up your playstyle

Dont listen to this guy. The last thing you need is to be snared trying to get jabs to land and the only thing that makes up for stamplar not having major mending like DK or warden, or be able to streak or cloak away is ER being able to remove 5 negative effects. And solar barrage has been nerfed so much, it doesnt even do enough damage to be used on a mag build. Only thing RR and solar barrage is good for is proc sets triggers.

Pi, POTL, jabs, onslaught, executioner is decent but I'd almost give up pi for repentance, go for a more stam dominant set than shacklebreaker maybe a sustain set, but more stam or weapon damage would be nice, get rid of arteum for tristat to make up for magicka while giving more health and stam, and get more into damage to be able to kill then repent. I'd also sharpen that maul over nirnhoned because your pen is way low. Even with onslaught, you have 4 seconds and from what I've been told, its capped on resistance it drops from 20-25k. A tank will have 35+

    Hi!

Thanks for the input. I really dont like snipe so thats out of the question for now. I do however love what that dude arotrias suggested and based on THAT and what you wrote i came up with this build. In my head, this is solid as hell at least in theory! Crazy stats for non CP BGs. 32k stamina, 22k health, 4,5k weap damage and the skills you suggested.

    Do you approve of this?

I dont use jabs on my stamplar - it kinda doesnt fit into my rotation. Am i missing out?

Use Jabs, while it can feel a bit weird being a short channel (that is considered Direct Damage) at first when new to the class - it is your "heavy hitter", it also procs Burning Light, extra damage from your class passive. It can melt people so much that there are "Jabs spammers" who pretty much yeah, spam it, since often that can be only thing that needs since it hits so hard combined with the passive.

But yes, use Jabs. Use Onslaught. Spice them both up with POTL on target. Profit. Stamplar is very good at taking down tanky targets. :)

Valid points. i will integrate that into my build asap and start getting familiar with it. I did use it on the same char to clear vMA and compared to my stam DK rotation that skill is insanly effective/easy! Thanks bro.

I think its quite confusing to have many players giving their opinions. I will try to explain some things and let you choose what fits you the most.

Mundus for example. While Lover will indeed give more damage to your non Onslaught skills it wont help your healing. Penetration only applies to damage. I like warrior more cause it also icreases your heals and the damage from Onslaught. And the damage difference between lover and warrior is really small.

Since you are using a crafted set on your body try to get the big pieces im heavy. 5 medium, 2 heavy. Get the Chest and legs in heavy, the Rest in medium. Thats how you get the most resistences out of your armor when you in medium.

A good combination of sets for no cp stamplar could be Bone Pirate and New Moon. Like this for example:

looking at the build i have a few points.
shackle isnt the best idea, spriggans or shieldbreaker would deal more damage.
run master bow if u can get it.
gap closers are not needed. i sometimes run them on my nb but in combat they often feel like a dead slot. play and see what you like though.
id swap momentum for rally. the burst heal is insane.

    You need a stun,
What I go is POTL, CR, jabs, and turn evil, sweep/onslaught, execute. It’s important that you time the turn evil to just before your potl goes off. This will make it more difficult for the enemy to recover as his guard is down and is taking full damage, so more than one jabs in that time should be fine.

I'll just second this as decent advice rather than point out other, bad advice

Edit:never mind. Just noticed this dude has a sword in stead of a maul. Swords not only are outpaced by maul in damage on anyone over 18k resists; they do NOT boost healing. The sets here in their link is fine, but the details are not.

Seriously. No wonder people complain about the tank meta. They resist running penetration. Even if onslaught did do their full resist, 5 seconds is not enough.

Same token; the dude whining about jabs who refuses to run FM over Rally probably doesnt bother with shuffle. You build good penetration and damage, your hard counter is going to be people out maneuvering you either speed away or through to make half your jabs wasted. Keep a snare immunity at least even if not building some speed
