Imperial City is the best content in the game

Hi,

As the title says, imo, the Imperial City is the best content in the game. PvP and PvE at the same time is my favorite content in the game for many reasons, and I'm surprised ZOS hasn't made more expansions along the same lines.

First, with a strong PvE element alongside PvP this adds many different strategies for combat, for example perhaps you know your enemy is stronger, but if you pull a big boss on them, like Zoal the eye in Elven Gardens, or Ysenda the harvester in Arboretum, with some skill and timing, using damage and CC from the boss can give an advantage. Similarly a smartly timed ambush on an enemy player already engaged with a boss can make all the difference.

Next, I get a real adrenaline rush in the city, always, and I love it. While fighting bosses that are similar in difficulty to the Maelstrom Arena, but with the added knowledge that there *is* a sneaky nightblade out there waiting to gank you, it requires a new level of awareness, even randomness. There is unpredictability which simply does not exist anywhere else in the game.

Finally, it's a great source of income. Tel Var is valuable, besides as a source for improving ones own storage space by buying coffers, selling Hakeijo runes, or crafted Prismatic Glyphs, is an excellent way to make an income. This can be done solo, or in a group, unlike say farming motifs from difficult dungeons which requires a smart coordinated group. A good soloist (yours truly) can make a very serious income by farming the Imperial City, but not easily.

So, along these lines I'm very surprised there isn't more PvE/PvP content in the game. Sure there are guards in Cyrodiil, but that is nowhere near the same level. It is easy to imagine all sorts of content where this could be made. Imagine any of the planes of Oblivion with monsters and competing players. All of the knowledge of Hermaeus Mora to the victor? cool. A bloody hunt in the fields of Hircine? awesome. A confusing and shifting puzzle arena in the Shivering Isles with the Cheesemonger himself? Deadly. Perhaps future battlegrounds could have an added pve element. Imagine a battle where trolls or daedra can be recruited to assist in battle, or something similar to a competitive Blackrose Prison. Perhaps you don't want to go full moba, but do consider the popularity of the genre.

Overall, with nearly 4k hours into the game you have a happy player here, I just want to share my thoughts. Thank you for considering my post. I love the Imperial City and the PvE/PvP combat. I highly encourage future additions to the game along the same line. Thank you

Agreed. I believe that was the product of the original dev team. They talked about Murkmire, open world PvP/ bounty hunting via the Justice system, and spell crafting back in those days as well. This was 2014 btw.

I believe there was also talk about horse racing back then as well. Now it's just boring PvE content, and dumbing down combat. Unfortunately the game aged like milk. Hopefully it turns around one day.

Well they have made it free so everyone can have a go there. I suspect that this is their way to gauge if PvP has any kind of a future in the game popularity wise.

I'm not sure you'll find too many takers for the "I love PvEvP" thing, but I'm pleased someone likes it. I've had some fun/memorable times there, but it's definitely not my favourite place.

Still think the learning curve for PvP is way too steep in this game and the general in-PvP chat stinks, which is a shame as that rather than any mechanics is what seems to discourage most people.

Imperial City is very fun if mixed PVE/PVP is your thing.

If it isn't, which is true for the vast majority of the playerbase who swarms IC during its event and then abandons it for the rest of the year, then you start to realize why ZOS didn't make any more PvPvE content.

I really enjoyed the main quest there.

Agreed. Some of my favorite PvP AND PvE memories are from IC-

PvP: I went in there with a full group from my old AD PvP guild shortly after IC became its own campaign. We did our usual flag-flipping of the districts and were eventually met by a large group of DC. After battling with them for a while over that district, EP showed up and it turned into a massive battle over the district. There had to have been close to 100 players there and it was an absolute blast.

PvE a friend and I spent hours just roaming the sewers and we were not in a position to be able to take down those Coldharbour General banner bosses, so we'd flee for our lives when we saw them and in general had a great time being slightly terrified at all times.

I do wish it was easier to solo the main quest there, however. I'm stuck on the Arena because I keep getting killed when I'm weakened from fighting. I prefer to quest solo, so trying to find a time when there aren't players around has been difficult.

Yeah.... well it might be fun for you to ambush players while they are fighting the boss. For the other guy getting ambushed, not so much. What you call "strategy" I call cheap and stupid. I'm also going to take a wild guess that you're a Night Blade, which has a distinct advantage in that area.

Imperial City is fun for "gankers" (which judging from your post that is what you are). But for everyone else, it's a miserable ____ hole. Judging by how the area is usually a ghost town - it would probably be a bad idea to focus on content like Imperial City moving forward.

OP, you don't care about the Imperial City itself at all. You just need any place for mixed PVP and PVE - to my mind, the biggest ZOS mistake. Imperial City is a place that many lore fans wish to see, yet they can't. Because they never PVP, never play in team.
ZOS should create special PVP, PVP/PVE places for players like you. These place should have nothing to do with the LORE. Just places where you can have fun. Interesting mechanics, challenging tasks, eh? That's what you need. Leave THE LORE alone. ESO is a TES game first, MMO - second.

Well, it's off-topic so I don't really want to bump your post, but it seems to be a common concern so: No, and for two reasons:

    1. Nightblades are a class built into the game, they have deep lore and a unique playstyle. Just because you dont like the way another person is playing the game doesn't mean they're wrong. Diversity of builds and playstyles is one of the greatest strengths of the game.

    2. I play Stamden and Magplar. If you had read more closely you would see that I said I *like* being hunted by nightblades. Why? Because it raises the stakes and makes it more fun. Also I almost always win, so that feels even better to tea bag a would-be ganker.

Before you go hating on another person's playstyle realize that it's a MMO, that means massively multiplayer, not CCO cookie cutter. If you dying a lot here's a serious tip: change your jewelry to protective. You're welcome.

Why do you think PvE players have total ownership of the lore?
As a long-term player, dating back to Oblivion, Morrowing, Skyrim etc. I seriously enjoy the lore as well. In fact I have sad nostalgia running through the Imperial City remembering how bright the markets were when I sold my gear here. Or how tall the mage's tower was when I crafted spells here.
I then I remember that ESO takes place *before* the other TES games in the lore timeline and it makes me very glad to know that eventually the daedric threat will be beaten back, and the Imperial City will eventually return to it's full glory.
I don't understand your argument that because something is difficult to reach makes it poor for lore.

God, that was an awful part of WoW. Giant lagfests as the zergs fought back and forth over Southshore (good luck questing!); griefers camping the couple spots where a PvE quest flagged your for PvP for some incomprehensible reason; griefers standing flagged on top of cross-faction neutral-area questgivers, so that you risked accidentally attacking them, getting flagged for PvP, and squished by the "we enforce the neutrality!" NPC guards (ensuring that you took durability damage, since it was a "PvE" death); high level dudes wiping out all the NPCs in lowbie-zones for 'fun' ("high levels of your faction will come to defend you! It's done to trigger Great PvP Fights!" except after the first few months, no one bothered to come, they'd rather hang out in town); etc.

edit: and this was on PvE servers. I can only imagine how much worse it was on the PvP servers.

    "Open world" pvp blows chunks.
