Town guards not fair ?

"Do the crime, pay... WITH YOUR LIFE!"

Or, if you don't want to pay the fine and hand over your 5K worth of stolen goods, play the "Do you know who I am? I have rich and powerful friends" card.

My biggest gripe isn't about the guards, it's about how there are always lootable things placed near the crafting merchants and turn-in crates, making it very likely that sooner or later you're going to accidentally pick up a bow or sword or pair of boots and earn a bounty when all you were trying to do was turn in your crafted items or interact with the merchant to buy or sell something. And then you have to make sure you don't run into any guards before your bounty goes down to 0.

I actually complained about accidental theft back when the Justice System first hit PTS, and had a dev tell me that asking for a, "thanks, I'm not going to hoover up everything that isn't nailed down like a homicidal magpie," setting was like asking for the ability to turn off enemy aggro.

If you're on PC, No Accidental Stealing is your friend. It's a really useful addon. If you're on console, I wish you could have access to that addon.

Lazy writ crafter disables theft looting by default when you have active writs in your log.

Guards should be hard to kill, but they should be killable. With a respawn timer like any other npcs. What makes crime dull to me is that fact that I cant kill them. Guards should not be gods. #KillAllGuards

    Nope.

Once guards are killable, that’s a license for players to get away with anything they want.

No Justice System would be gamebreaking.

Lol with how ridiculously easy it is to escape from guards, you can get away with anything already. Might as well have fun killing them.

I think you’ve played enough of the game to understand the difference, @Dominion_Nightblade.

Not that either of our opinions matters ... ZOS isn’t going to make the guards killable anytime soon.

It's too bad we can't actually chat with characters and increase-- or decrease-- their dispositions toward us, the way we can in Morrowind and Oblivion. I always talk to every guard in Oblivion and max out their dispositions. Sometimes if I get caught the guard will help me out by paying off my bounty for me. :)

Sometimes I wonder if individual guards might react to you based on race and gender-- the guard's as well as your character's. In the Daggerfall Bank I'll be crouching to the right of a guard, waiting for them to turn the other way so I can take the piddling stack(s) of coins on the desk, and different guards seem to be treating me differently. Some of them will be staring right at me but the eye indicator will say "hidden," allowing me to take the coins from under their noses. Others will be turned with their backs to me yet I'll still be detected. It seems like this can be predicted with a fair degree of accuracy based on their race and gender.

The only thing I've ever had a problem with is the one-shot bolt, which I've only had happen a few times the entire time playing this game and I'm currently over 2M bounty.

I actually wish they would do more with the justice system other than you simply having to avoid guards, like bounty hunters coming after you or something.

I got one shot a couple of times when I was getting the achievement for getting away from guards. I would pop a guard with my staff then run across the swamp, go back and do it again. Third or fourth time he had enough and did smite me down mightily.

Guards are fine as they are.
Not sure why you need to complicate how they function...
