What keeps you playing?

So ever since Scalebreaker hit I've been online for three times, no longer than an hour. I've read the upcoming patch notes and it seems that those three hours will be even less next patch. I was wondering what keeps you guys playing?

I've played ever since beta on PC, with a big break between launch and the Morrowind release. I've always loved the game and the world of TES, even had a website with builds and guides for my guild Sanguine's Sentinels where I just to be in, we even were planning to do a YouTube channel which we only just started but... But lately, to be fair it started since Murkmire, I'm having a hard time enjoying the game. Obviously combat changes are the biggest reason, keeping to completely change your build (I'm sorry after all these years, I'm tired of crafting and farming, I don't need to reattune my traits and farm golden mats every three months, I want to enjoy my game). Also, rotation changes every time and hitting 50K on a 3mil or 6mil dummy is becoming a joke since muscle memory is your enemy in this case.

Then there is the performance, the FPS drop at the beginning over EVERY fight in any trial... And I just completely stay out of Cyrodiil that place is all fine until a zerg comes in (not because of the reason people rant about zergs, simply because the game starts lagging, FPS hits a bottleneck so what's the point?).

Finally, I am not alone it seems since all my groups fell apart, my trial groups and even my guilds, all old players that leave while I do see a lot of new players that came in with Elsweyr. No problem with new players, but can't do a vSS HM with new people for instance.

So I am wondering, to all the older players who have been around Tamriel the last couple of years, what keeps you playing? I don't want to just drop it I've invested so much time and energy in this game that I just can't drop it like that, but every time I log in I know that I won't have my trial group up (and lately, they are hard to come by on xOne EU, my only platform right now) which doesn't even matter because I once again have to farm yet another heap of golden mats and a new set simply to stand by (stamDD, magDD luckely is pretty spared in that regard).

So please, if you have played this game for a long time and remember those good old days where you could Dragonleap unto castle walls or really felt your class was different (let's face it, right now it's like the ending of Mass Effect 3 where you simply chose what colour your buttons will be like), let me know and maybe I'll see something in a new light or learn something I haven't yet to rekindle my love for this game.

Started Day one, I love the flexibility of my character (played EQ since launch and hate that you are set in one role).

But to be honest the main reason I'm still here is its the best game of its type available, I also play SWTOR/EQ/EQ2/GW2 and nothing comes close.

Your journey is similar to many others. It's hard to play a video game for this many years and not experience the lows. But, never feel like you have to keep playing because the simple fact that you've played for this many years. It's like when you're in a relationship and you're not happy, yet you won't end it because we have so much time together. If you're not having fun with this game, then move on. It's okay. You might come back next year, or you might be happier playing another game. Just don't force yourself to play because it's not good for anyone -- meaning you'll be unhappy when you play and that ultimately rubs off on other players.

Since I don't PVP, any nerfs are miner to me. It make the killing of some monsters harder, but worth it.
I just love the game.

I gave up on PVP due to super fast meta twists. I gave up on end game trials due to lag & DCs. I don't play dungeons since I have got all gear and max CP. What do I do? Questing, housing, achievements, trading, chatting with friends...

I'm still having fun. It's not the game it was, and it never will be again, and I'm out of my mourning phase about that.

And tbh I have faith in this combat team, and hope that getting through this patch of changes will be worth it. (Don't @ me, I don't know wtf they're doing right now either.) I may eat those words eventually, but that's where I am right now.

I've also taken a couple of very long breaks when the fun was gone. Can recommend.

I'm primarily a solo pve player. What keeps me playing is the game's beauty combined with its mass and scale.

Beauty. I can spend plenty of time with my elf simply walking her mare around Auridon along the roads or the beach - enjoying the sights, listening to the game music. Simply magical and relaxing.

Mass and Scale. I played Oblivion and Skyrim for 4k hours each - I love those games but they are small. With 6.5k hours in ESO it does not feel small at all. The massive volume of content means I can happily ignore a long list of things that I don't enjoy (dragons, trials, DLC dungeons, PvP) and focus on the things I do enjoy (questing, exploring, hunting WBs, normal alliance group dungeons on normal (some of them solo), public dungeons, delves). Even with my somewhat restrictive list, the content I do remains massive. For example, by the time my elf gets back to a delve, it feels fresh again because there are so many of them.

There’s not much choice of mmorpg on PS4, so in order to kill my time at night, it’s the place and game I hang out.

Played since Beta, I love how it changes, (some good, some bad) but never boring. There is ALWAYS something to do in this game. The people (for the most part) are friendly and helpful. The different zone are a wonder to just walk through. I just love the game. I play anything from 5/6 hours a day to 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week. I never chase the 'meta' I play at my own pace in my own way.

I kind of like the current event, although it doesn't feel as social or co-operative as last year's Port to Arteum event.

I like the vast majority of people I meet in game. I think it's the other people in game who really pull me back in, cos I have a lot of fun doing group content.

DPS ain't nothing but a number people, almost no PvE contains DPS checks to progress. And clever players will adapt to whatever changes ZOS bring in anyway. If your enjoyment of the game is solely derived from "skill X" being optimal and you will immediately quit if this changes, you are probably playing the wrong game.

I will, however, be utterly *********** if ZOS don't sort out a working Mac updater.

Nothing else better for the moment. Played at beginning, left till One Tamriel. I am running out of things to do. Seems to get more homogenized than before. Dragons are on farm status, where's the fun in that?

Been here since beta. Played all the way through both Oblivion and Skyrim. I'm a solo-player and what keeps me going is beauty. I simply love the sights and sounds of Tamriel..
There are interesting quests also, interesting conversations with NPC and I get a real kick out of cooperation with total strangers.

What bugs me isn't so much those constant changes, which let my learning curve become suddenly extremely steep in a daily life containing more than gaming, and not even those overwhelming number of possibilities, which some of them even are required for progress, but it's actually the mentality of a growing number of long time players. Behavior that are more suited of a child, the language. It ruins the beauty and is the main reason for me not entering a guild or using the different possibilities other than questing, exploring and Cyrodiil.

I'm waiting for the-game-that-isn't-named-but-quite-could-be-Hammerfeld. Until then I'm enjoying the stunning views

I've been playing since February 2014 with a short break early on, like 2 months or something. I play because there is still so much for me to do. Even with over 200 days on my main character, there is still a lot for me to do. On my main I do the achievement hunting, I have a farming toon with speed increasing sets that I do a TON of farming with to keep me making a few million gold a week to support my crown buying(gifting) habits. Plus there are always events. I also Tier 3 about 22 DC toons every campaign (over 3 accounts) to make the extra gold (290k+ when we win) and the transmute crystals. Also I am in a PvP guild that runs every day for 4 hours that I try to make it to. I am losing traction with the game, mainly because I just got Monster Hunter World and have been playing that. But ever since I played Morrowind like 20 years ago or however long ago it was, I have wanted an online version of TES, and despite the bugs and glitches, that's what ESO is, and, even if it's just in my eyes, this game delivers. I don't expect many people to agree with me, but that's my thoughts and opinion on it. For me, ESO will still have a long life as I don't see myself giving up any time soon. So far there have been no changes or nerfs that make me want to say goodbye as I set myself up to be able to handle changes. Sure not many are living the nerd lyfe like me, 3 accounts, 3 personal guild banks, more than 8 toons on each account. Ok I derailed there, so I'll end this with:

ESO is what you make it, sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone is just what you need to enjoy something all over again.

6 month beta payer and im getting burned from the amount of rubbish one has to grind the living daylights out of to get that new "meta" for pve.

I loved pvp, just adored it, till ESO 2.0 came and all this 1 shot bursting metal became the norm.

Only reason i am still in ESO is due to raids, just a mix of having fun, being serious (score runs) and a middle ground with people i trust and have a blast with.

Other than that, i do not even log in for hirelings with 10 characters. I craft rubbish to sell just to stay in trade guilds.

I'm at 450 CP with plenty to do still. Only chapter I finished is Elseweyr and only DLC Wrothgar. I usually play for a few weeks at time then take a little break.

Though atm with the maintenance since 2pm there is not much playing at all x.x
