Bar swapping really breaks the immersion for me, that is why I can not stick with the game for more than a month or 2 at a time. I love the graphics and the questing. But damn, I really hate having two bars rather than one bar with more buttons. Seems totally designed for console though, which might be why I really dislike the combat. I would say I love everything about the game, minus the combat, lol. Just my $0.02 not angry, not negative, not ripping on the game, simply wanted to say that I do not like the bar swapping at all. I am sure many love it, just ruins the gameplay for me though.

Also, I must add that having the Magicka staffs be Frost, Fire, and Lightning is super boring. After this many years, we cant get like a Blood Magic or Shadow Magic style of staff / magic? The Necro with lightning is really lame IMO lol.

This is actually a good thing, because it lets you use 2 weapons of a different type, as well as the weapon skills for the different weapon types.
For example: restoration + lightning staff.

Have you tried playing a Nightblade? Because their class abilities are pretty much a combination of blood magic + shadow magic. :)

Yeah, I have a NB but it just feel wrong with my Magicka build using elemental staff with shadow class skills lol

Sorry your immersion was only waist-deep.

You know, there are one-bar magsorc builds out there.

If you limit yourself to questing and solo content, one bar is more than enough.

I can't even remember the last time I bar swapped any content less than soloing a 4 man dungeon.

Oh, and for full disclosure - I'm old and animation cancelling and to a lesser degree is an issue for me because my reaction times are slower and my muscle memory currently has Alzheimers...

On a Templar, just drop Shards and spam Sweeps. That's easily ~15k DPS if wearing the right sets (crafted/overland are good enough).
    Only 2 abilities needed.
In fact, you could even forego Shards and still do fine only spamming Sweeps, but the DPS will suffer for it.

On a Sorc you could, in principle, not use ANY abilities at all - the Sorc pets do some "AFK damage" on their own, but it's far from great.

IMO, dual wielding daggers on a NB is the closest you can get (immersion-wise) to a "sneaky assassin" type character.

A reasonable setup for an "assassin" would be 2W daggers + bow.
Realistically, an assassin would carry both, IIRC that's how it was in Skyrim. ESO engine limitations (?) mean that the other weapon will be "hidden" when you barswap.

If you only care about overland content, and maybe the easier group content on Normal difficulty, then there are many options for a "hybrid" build which uses a combination of melee weapons and magicka abilities, and is quite fun to play - while still being more than powerful enough to breeze through the "easy" content with it.

Bar swapping is one of the weirder decisions in this game. I'm fairly new, but I'm getting used to it. The only thing that bugs me is sometimes the bar won't flip. It's not consistent. I'd prefer a long line of skills and just be able to flip weapon, or even like in diablo the entire armor/weapon set if you want.

I do find the solo content a challenge as a necro even flipping bars. Most of it is easy but the tail end of most larger quests have always been 2-3 tries before I eventually win. Call me bad or whatever, I could care less.

I hate bar swapping as well, especially when you can't bar swap during casted spells to get a clutch heal off on the back bar. I have died so many times because my bar would not swap that its old hat.

Bar swapping enhances the combat experience and adds another level of depth to this game.

And yes, I do agree it's about time we get another weapon, we have gotten new classes and skill lines in the past.

Bar swapping may enhance the combat for you, I personally can not stand it. Its clunky and does not allow for fluid motion between spells especially combined with the animation cancelling exploit that the devs accepted as part of the game instead of fixing.

My hands do weird things when playing this game, its not normal.

If bar swapping was JUST swapping to a new weapon and its abilities (and not a part of power ups, stacking bonuses etc) then I might enjoy it.
