How strong are Magplars and can they work (and work well) as mostly ranged? (pve)

Just trying to look at different classes and such and really would like a strong ranged (magic) class. I have my Magden but just looking at other options and was curious about Templars and how they would do.
I know Jabs are pretty much the bread and butter of the class in both stam and mag but has anyone been successful with a fully ranged build? I don't do speed run record breaking runs but do do trials and such.
So yea.....am I SOOL or is there perhaps some hope for something? Cheers! ;)

edit...sorry, just realized I posted the same questions way back in Feb! So yea....maybe just update if things are better/worse/same. ;)

Just replace jabs with elemental weapon / crushing shock and zaan with skoria. You can also dont bring any spammable and just fill your bar with dots - degeneration - soul trap - elemental reach - vampires bane -
Most pve magplars dont use jabs anyway.

one of the best magplars skills is solar barrage (8m radius) so there is also that.

magplar is great. This patch you don't need a spammable, so if you need defense/a burst heal feel free to slot ritual of retribution or breath of life. They can absolutely be ranged, or at least as ranged as unstable blockade is (I have no clue about in game measurements but i'd say 10-15 in game feet? idk man)

Magplar is about the same as other classes with a ranged build, except that they have a ranged execute.

Magplar is probably the only good true ranged spec in this patch.

No pure spammable at all, you may pre-explode spears and/or unstable blockade to be sort of spammable when sustain allows it.

You could use Force Pulse/Crushing Shock instead of jabs. The best part about this is some of your dots are actually your buffs as well. Degeneration is a dot, helps recovery, and gives major sorcery. Vamps Bane/Reflective light is a dot, gives major prophecy and minor sorcery. The only other buffs you need are Race against time (minor force) and Channeled Focus (recovery, and armor fwiw). Can also apply Backlash to bosses, mix in another dot or two and you're set. Just need your execute then and maybe even have room to slot inner light.
one of the best magplars skills is solar barrage (8m radius) so there is also that.

It got nerfed quite a bit in scalebreaker, plus it's more of a melee/short range ability so it wouldn't really fit on a ranged build. The empowered it gives is nice though.

    Whats wrong with solar barrage?

Light attacks are the most amount of damage done in parses (because we do it more often), wouldnt you want to strengthen from the top down.

Magplars can be pretty ok only ranged. For that i would recomend Magsorc.
